Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Jason had just gotten home from working a thirteen hour shift at the restaurant. He was tired and worried because the people who leased the building to him had raised the rent. He knew that he needed a miracle to save the restaurant.

To be honest Jason had always dreamed of owning his own restaurant rather than just renting one. Unfortunately he was never able to earn enough to be able to save up for his own place.

Jason grabbed the leftovers from the restaurant and sat down to watch the news while thinking about what to do. As soon as he turned the TV on there was a broadcast of the new AI the government was experimenting on. They had been trying to get civilians to come and try it. The government was offering a hundred and fifty thousand credits to anyone who would agree to host an AI.

According to the government the AI interacted with different brainwaves differently. Which is why they needed a huge group for the experiment. Most people were reluctant to try it because it was already known that the AI was invented by aliens. The government was capable of reproducing the nanites for the AI but they didn't really understand it.

Jason would normally ignore this as he didn't want anyone in his head but himself. But after finding out about losing his restaurant he began to waver.

Suddenly a news reporter exclaimed, " Just in: The Government has decided to raise the price they are willing to pay for those who take the AI nanites. It will now be paying a hundred thousand credits more than previously, for the massive sum of two hundred and fifty thousand credits. The government will also be paying those who have already taken the experiment the additional hundred thousand credits."

Jason was shocked, then ecstatic. This was enough to get out of dept and buy his own restaurant as well as leaving him a decent sized nest egg.

He immediately called Uni-tech to book an appointment to recieve the nanites. Luckily they were actually able to see him the morning after next at 8 a.m. They told him not to eat anything between now and then because they needed his body empty of outside organic materials for the procedure.

The day of the procedure came and Jason called a cab to take him to Uni-tech. On the way there Jason was starting to worry about his decision to participate the experiment.

When he arrived a beautiful red haired woman met him at the door with a middle aged man in a lab coat. The lady smiled and came up to him holding out her hand. "Hello, my name is Ms. Lawson, and this is Dr. Teal."

Jason took the proffered hand and introduced himself, " Hello, I'm Jason Greer. It's a pleasure to meet you."

"Ok nice to meet you, Jason. The good Dr. here will be running a few test before we begin to administer the nanites. I also have some paperwork you will need to sign before the tests or procedure may continue." Ms. Lawson calmly and politely explained.

"Ok. I was wondering when will I recieve the money? And how long does all the tests and the proceduere last?" Jason asked.

"The procedure normally last for about 3.5 hours. This is so your body can slowly acclimate to the nanites. They also require us to feed a low current of electricity into your body. We use 30 watts of continuous current to, for lack of a better term, jump start the nanites. Once the nanites are fully charged they disappear in a physical sense. We dont currently understand why they do that. But we can still detect the nanites with the latest energy scanners, they stay in your body just not physically." Ms. Lawson answered.

Dr. Teal said, "As for the medical tests they should only take about 1.5 hours to finish. You didn't eat anything in the last 24 hours right?"

" Yes sir. I was told about that over the phone when I signed up, so I have not eaten since the day before yesterday. In fact I'm pretty hungry now hahs. " Jason responded.

" Ok, we are about to administer the anesthesia. It will numb your body, but you will have to stay conscious for the procedure. Otherwise the nanites will be unable to form an AI." one of the nurses politely explained

"The current will slowly be raised to 30 watts. After the procedure the nanites will be powered by the biochemical electricity you produce naturally. But for now they need a jumpstart so they can form an AI." Dr. Teal gruffly said. "

Jason tried to nod his head but found himself unable to move his body that much. Finally he managed to say he understood.

Dr. Teal took a cable with a long needle at the end. " The cable will stick to your chest while the needle will go into your heart. It will only be a light pinch and when it's removed the AI will repair the hole."

After inserting the cable all the inside Jason's chest, the doctors and nurses quickly left the area so the procedure could begin.

Jason could feel the light current. Although it didn't hurt it made him lightly itch everywhere. After a while he began to fill this heat in his chest at first it wasn't to bad but eventually between the heat and itching it became like torture especially because he couldn't move.

At first Jason was absorbed by his discomfort, but he eventually became aware of people yelling and screaming. The next thing he knew was that the itch became a searing light and a bright light.

After the light he was knocked unconscious and knew no more...
