Chapter 6 - ch 6 the troop

Goblins are always such an annoying bunch to deal with, but that is not the case for the nameless ones. They are the perfect soldiers to lead. They are obedient and listen to you, though they do tend to be on the dumber side sometimes.

I do wonder for how many generations a nameless one has to be enslaved to reach this level of servitude, because honestly there is no real difference between a named one and a nameless one, then again there is no real difference between a noble and a commoner.

Right now I have a bunch of nameless goblins to lead, ten of them to be precise. Not too large of a number, but significant enough to cause minor damage to the group. There are not more than a thousand people in the camp, including the named ones. That means that the loss of every soldier here matters, even the worthless ones.

Me - there is no need for all these formalities with me, I am not a person that belongs to your society. I don't care what you and your rules are.

Right now in front of me is a bunch of goblins standing bowing down to show their subservience.

Me - what should I be calling you, then. You in the very front. You can call me troop leader for now.

I pick the goblin that seems to be the leader of the bunch.

Me - introduce me to my fellow soldiers.

Soldier one - you can call me soldier one, troop leader. These guys...

That guy continues to point at the other soldier bowing down and calling them soldier two, soldier three, and so on till soldier ten.

Me - you are considered nameless ones right, so this can't be your name.

Soldier one - no troop leader, it is more of a ranking system. Since I am a soldier and I am the strongest member of our group so I am considered to be soldier number one.

Me - Okay, so I would like you all to show me your exact powers and exactly what kind of weapons that you want to work with right now.

Soldier one - well, I am soldier one and I am an unevolved being. I am quite skilled in the use of a spear.

Soldier two and three are skilled at using greatswords like you, troop master. Soldier three has evolved once and has taken a physical route of strengthening.....

(After almost an hour)

The group in from of has been chosen in a very smart manner. They are a very balanced troop and more importantly, their leader is very smart and seems to be one of the smarter goblins. He must be a variant goblin since he seems to be so smart.

That is a good thing for me. He can take care of leading the group and I can focus on growing more powerful. I could give him suggestions to help him out. That is what is supposed to be my job.

Me - so what exactly are we supposed to be doing here. Nothing dangerous I suppose.

Solider one - our job will begin in a few days once the beasts from below will begin charging up. We are supposed to kill as many as possible until there are enough beasts in the area to activate the great fire bull. It is the safest possible job here, but it is also the one with the heaviest costs.

The great fire bull is the name of the formation that has been inscribed on the southern wall.

Soldier one - naturally that is only because the titled ones would not like the named ones to waste their energy so quickly now.

Me - well, I rather not sit here bored out of my mind. A bit of action will do me a lot of good and honestly, while it is a risky position it does allow for the quickest growth doesn't it. I am sure that you want to evolve as quickly as possible.

Soldier one - well, the losses tend to be very heavy in such a situation, troop master. This particular wave seems to be even more powerful than the normal. We are not supposed to have an attack for a couple of months at the very least. It is a very unnatural situation.

Me - let's see what we can do about making sure you live for now, shall we? Call in the rest of the troops. I will be giving them personal lessons, for now. Let's see just how much I can develop these guys.

(Almost a week later)

your skill "weapon mastery" has reached level 2.

I am not surprised, after all, I have been training this bunch, for the last week. There are a couple of tanks in the form of soldiers two and three. They use greatswords like me and are pretty skilled at it themselves, though they have yet to beat me even in two vs one fight, though soldier three does put up a pretty good fight. Well, I can't complain. They are still babies compared to how much combat I have experienced in my life. Soldier three is stronger but he moves in too much of a clumsy manner. The named ones are quite idiotic if I say that much. While the nameless ones are equivalent to slaves, to think thay they are being sent on a battlefield without even the most basic of training. That is nothing but the wastage of a resource. Well, it is not my place to worry about all of this. It is not like they will listen to an outsider. I am already placed away from all the positions of power.

Otherwise, I don't know why with me being that is supposed to be containing their leader I have been assigned to a mere slave troop to lead. They are trying to suppress me, though I still don't know the exact reason that such a thing is happening. There could be a thousand reasons for such a thing.

Other than that, I have been helping the other member of the group to fight with their weapons. There is a spear user, a couple of bow users, and five sword users, and lastly a couple of great sword users. All of them seem to have a level -1 mastery in the weapon that they have been using.

Training them is a long-term project for them to truly get skilled. Well, at the very least this endeavor of mine managed to bring one of my skills to level 2. Weapon mastery seems to gain experience regardless of which weapon I am using.

It is a weird sensation to have information dumped right into your mind and it still feels very uncomfortable. Well, at the very least I did not lose control of my emotions this time like I had the last time.

The knowledge that I got this time is the knowledge of other beings using these weapons. How to thrust, how to block, basically how to use the said weapons. It is not very useful to me, since I already have been using weapons for a very long time, but I can finally see why we have such skilled weapon users among the monster of the great wilderness. This is quite useful for somebody that doesn't know how to use a weapon, for example, a young goblin that has just been born into the world and needs to protect himself.

The weapons I have been giving knowledge about are the weapons that I have been using until now, so it looks like the system is somehow recording everything that I do. Not exactly a hard task for a being that can see everything that is going on in the world, and also since I have lost a majority of my powers as a world hopper. There are still a few, but most of them are gone.

Well, I had expected mana sense to reach the next level before my other skill, I am using it every moment that I am not meditating, after all. Well, there is a difference from before in my mana sense. I can see things more clearly, and I can quantify exactly how much mana something has. It is still not very precise but it is something that I have to adjust with for now, who knows maybe I am on the verge of a breakthrough and might reach level 2 soon enough.

The troop has no magic users, then again if they could use magic, then what would be the difference between the nameless one and the named ones. Magic is the main thing that increases a goblin's power. There are not many that gain a benefit from going the physical path, like it was the case for goblin knight.

That would mean that I am the only one that can truly use mana in the group, though my mana core is the smallest of the group. I will need to see how exactly do the others increase the size of the mana core.

Well, here comes soldier number one. He is the most skilled entity of the troop, the only one that can be considered to be somewhat skilled at using his spear.

According to him, he has a spear mastery of level 2 which is what provides him the ability to use that weapon and with the skill that he has. Well, it is still too little compared to my skill in using a spear, but if I were to use a weapon like a spear with this clumsy body of mine, then I will fall.

Me - challenging me again are you, soldier one. You like getting beat, don't you?

Soldier one - I would rather get beaten by you, troop master than end up in the stomach of a beast.

Me - true, true. Come and attack then.

The goblin tries to stab my head with that spear of his, but his movement is clumsy. I could dodge, but my job is to train right now, so I use my great sword to block his strike. He jumps back retreating before I can strike him back.

He retreats to a safe distance, trying to stab my chest. I dodge that attack and use my right hand to catch his spear and this one's strength is lower than mine. I pull his spear right out of his hands, as the goblin falls due to my strength.

Me - well, you managed to get in a couple of strikes at the very least.

Soldier one - not one of which hit. how do you even dodge my attacks troop master. Your speed is slower than mine and I am using my full speed to fight with you.

Me - it comes down to how effectively you use your force, young goblin. For example, when you dodge, you tend to jump. When you jump, however small you need to waste time stabilizing yourself. Same thing when you attack, I can tell from the way that you move how exactly are you going to be moving and attacking a few moments before you even make the conscious decision to attack. Makes it very easy for me to dodge.

Soldier one - so how exactly am I supposed to move myself effectively as you have said.

Me - well, I can't exactly tell it to you. It is something that you pick after many years of training. How exactly are you supposed to be moving? How much force that you must you use for every move. For dodging, I have a little trick that might help you. Imagine that there is a circle around you and you are restricted to move only in that circle. Once you can dodge effectively In that radius, then you can reduce the radius. It has helped me, maybe it will help you.

Soldier one - ok, troop master. By the way, the beasts are going to be appearing soon enough. The mage estimates that we shall be attacked in two days.

Me - then tell the other soldiers to rest for now. We need to have our full strength to deal with the enemies in a couple of days.

Soldier one - yes, troop master, but is not better to practice more in these last couple of days.

Me - no need, there is no point in training if we're not able to give our 100 percent on the day of the battle. Tell them to rest now. I find any that are training pointlessly I will rip their heads off, on spot.
