It was dark and it was cloudy. There was no rain. Steven was all alone. Where am I? He thought to himself. He didn't like to be alone in the dark. He couldn't remember how he had got there. Last he remembered he was at the flat with his best friend, Mathew. This couldn't be happening.
He sat up and scanned his surroundings. He could see only one thing: A cemetery. He didn't know what this was or why he was here. He was scared. Every bone in his body started shaking. He started sweating and tried to stand up. But his feet felt really heavy. After a few tries, he managed to stand up and head towards the cemetery.
He could see huge graves. Very long as well. However, they were all empty. He couldn't spot any grave that contained someone.
He suddenly stopped in his tracks. He saw someone. This, someone, was big and strong. He couldn't run away even if he tried. So he didn't.
Steven waited until he approached. He had long hair. Very long hair. He was wearing nothing but shorts. Steven couldn't break the silence. He couldn't shake his body at all. It was like his whole body was paralyzed. They both studied each other. It was like he was looking to find a weakness in Steven. Steven had to not let him win. Or else this was over. He was over.
All of a sudden the clouds cleared away and the bright light from the moon shone over them. Now they could see each other clearly than before. At least Steven could. Who knows if he could or not. Steven noticed that it was a full moon.
"Welcome" He said and then grinned. "It is a dangerous game you play but be careful where you go. No one has tried yet and for those who have, this has been their place" He grinned again. And then released a loud howl. Slowly he transformed into a big monster. A werewolf. This was just a nightmare. This can't be real. Steven had all kinds of thoughts in his head.
"We are ready for you" He laughed louder this time and then disappeared into a puff of smoke. Steven was shaking now. It was like he was in the middle of Antarctica. He felt cold. He shivered and then noticed it. The moon was heading his way. There was nothing he could do. He couldn't run away. This was the end. The moon was getting closer.
Now it was only a matter of seconds before the impact. 3, 2, 1. Steven counted in his head, getting ready for the impact.
"I have had a good run, I guess" Steven shouted into the open sky with only the moon blocking his view. Before the impact, Steven woke up
He was in a pool of sweat. He sighed and then again. He never had nightmares before. Not like this at least. He had some in his childhood but those were nothing compared to this.
He couldn't sleep again. He feared that this nightmare might haunt him again. He sat in bed and saw something drip from his nose onto his hand. Because of the darkness, he couldn't see anything so he headed for the bathroom.
"What. This can't be" He couldn't believe it. It was blood that was on his hand. His nose was bleeding. He quickly washed it and then took a little toilet paper and shoved it up to his nose. How was this possible? It was the nightmare that had made his nose bleed. It was the only explanation.
After being certain that the blood had stopped, he walked out of the bathroom. He couldn't see anything so he used his hand to guide his way to his bed. After sitting on his bed, he turned on the lights.
Steven was happy that it wasn't real. It couldn't have been real. It wasn't possible for the moon to fall down. This wasn't a movie.
Steven couldn't sleep so he took his phone out to check on his social media. He remembered that he had snapped a photo of Mathew's computer screen. So he decided to investigate what that was. He needed his computer as well for that.
He had forgotten to charge it, so he took the charger and plugged it in. After waiting literally a minute, he opened the lid. Powered it on and he was ready to see what this college provided him.
"This suits me well" Steven whispered to himself. He often did it and it helped him control the loneliness. He hated being alone and he thought whispering would help him.
He checked its location. Exactly where he liked it. After a few minutes, he looked satisfied with what he had seen and then submitted his application.
Before closing the lid, he received an email. He sighed and then pulled the lid up again and clicked on the notification. He waited a while because they couldn't afford stable wifi.
"How is this possible?" Steven whispered to himself. Again. He saw the subject of the email: Your application has been accepted. He couldn't believe his eyes. No college had ever been this fast. It would at least take a month for them to notice it. He put on his optimism and didn't think about why and how. Happily, he replied to them with thanks and then closed the lid on his pc.
He couldn't sleep so he went out. Once outside the flat, he took a careful look at his surroundings. He was glad that the nightmare was over. He was glad that he'd finally managed to find a college. He checked his wristwatch and it was only half an hour before sunrise.
He ran and ran. It helped him. It brought him peace of mind. Still, a few flashbacks of the nightmare came to him. He couldn't help it. It did him no good but he couldn't forget him. He was certain that it had a meaning. What could it mean? Steven had no idea. He pushed the thought out of his mind and tried to replace it with something else. Anything else but that, he thought to himself.
He ran a few more blocks and all he could see was darkness apart from the street lights and the moon's bright light. He was grateful. He always was.
He ran till he reached the park he always visited. He met his first and only girlfriend in this park. He thought she was the one until he found out that she cheated on him. After that, he never interacted with girls.
It took him a long time to recover after that breakup. He wasn't used to being let down and he hated it.
He went through the park. Sucking the scent of the flowers through his nostrils. Loving every moment of it. He reached his favorite bench and took a seat.
He couldn't think about the nightmare. It wasn't what he could think about in a park this beautiful, full of every kind of tree and flowers. He tried to think about anything but that.
He thought about his best friend. He thought about Mathew. Mathew was what had kept him going. Steven never admitted it but Mathew was his motivation in life. Mathew was the one who made him love the sport of football. He made him practice daily until he reached his full potential. He couldn't live without him. He was his bigger brother, in other words.
He thought of this opportunity. This was what his father always wanted. He wanted his boy to reach his full potential. He wanted his boy to finish college. The heck with the university but college was a must. Steven always wanted to make his dad proud and now was his chance. He would go there and finish college. He would conquer college. It made him smile. It wasn't what he had done in a while. He smiled at the thought of making his parents proud.
There was only one thing to do. He would go there. He would go the London Beasts. He would enroll in this college. It was what would make his parents proud. And possibly Mathew as well. He would make himself proud.
Now he had to wait but once it was time, he would go there.
Steven got up and ran. He would run till college. He wouldn't give his mind the chance to think about the nightmare. So he ran.
