Linn leaped out of the portal and landed on the ground with a thud.
''Ow...'' Linn grunted in pain. He got up and noticed his surroundings. He saw green grass, flowers, and trees all around him.
"Where am I?" Linn asked himself as he walked around and saw more grass farther away. He looked up at the sky and saw the sun shining, not a cloud in the sky. Linn took in his surroundings one more time. He realized that he was in a field of some sort and was confused about many things. He did know that he was not in Nakamura town.
''What is this place?'' Linn said in awe. Linn was still amazed by this new place until he heard a small whimper beside him. Linn turned towards the noise.
''Wha..?'' Linn's eyes widened in shock as he looked down and saw...a naked boy with golden hair.
"Who is he, and where did he come from?" wondered Linn. Linn could have sworn he jumped into the portal by himself. Did somebody follow him in, or was the boy already here when Linn arrived? Linn observed the boy's features. He appeared to be around Linn's age and height, if not taller, and he was naked. Looking at the boy's face, Linn noticed that he had dog ears!
''What is…'' Before Linn could finish, the boy began to stir. Linn moved back as the naked boy sat up. The naked boy opened his golden eyes and blinked a few times before looking up at Linn.
''Master?'' the naked boy spoke.
''Huh?'' Linn said confused ''By master do you mean me?'' Linn pointed to himself. Just then, the naked boy's eyes began to sparkle, and he pounced on Linn and began licking him. ''woah woah, what are you doing?!'' Linn exclaimed.
''Oh, master! It's you! I was so scared. I didn't know what was going on, but I'm glad we made it here together!'' The boy said as he comically cried tears of joy.
''What are you talking about?! Get off of me!'' Linn said as he pushed him off.
''What's the matter, master?'' the naked boy asked, cocking his head to the side.
''I'm not your master! Who are you anyway?'' Linn asked.
The naked boy had a shocked expression on his face and slumped to the floor, depressed. ''Oh, you're such a mean master! How could you forget about me of all people?!'' the naked boy cried. Linn sweatdropped.
''H-hey now, don't cry; I am just saying that I don't remember meeting you before,'' Linn said. The naked boy sniffed and wiped his tears.
''You don't remember me?'' the naked boy asked.
''I think I'll remember a boy with gold hair and dog ears, '' Linn replied. The naked boy stood up and put a hand to his chest.
''Master, it's me, Tomodachi,'' the naked boy introduced himself. The area grows quiet for a minute, and a slight wind blows.
''....Huh?'' Linn replied dumbly.
''I said it's me, Tomodachi,'' Tomodachi repeated.
''N-no. I heard you the first time.'' Linn said ''I'm just trying to wrap my head around this.'' Linn pointed at Tomodachi. ''so you're saying you're Tomodachi? My dog Tomodachi?''
''Yes!'' Tomodachi beamed. Linn was silent for a few seconds, and then he started laughing.
"W-what so funny, master?'' Tomodachi asked, slightly taken aback by his master's reaction.
''Ha ha ha, oh, that is a good one, but seriously, who are you?'' Linn asked.
''Tomodachi,'' Tomodachi replied.
'No, seriously,'' Linn said.
''To-mo-da-chi,'' Tomodachi repeated slowly. Linn had an angry tick mark on his forehead.
''Ok, that joke is getting old…''Linn said, annoyed that the naked boy still used his dog's name.
''I'm not joking! I'm Tomodachi, why don't you believe me?!'' Tomodachi asked.
''Well, let's see, maybe because my Tomodachi is a dog, and you are human!'' Linn replied angrily. Tomodachi looked down at himself.
''Hey, what do you know? I do look like a human!'' Tomodachi gasped in surprise. Linn facefaulted.
"Obviously!" Linn exclaimed. "And what's with these dog ears?" Linn grabbed Tomodachi's ears and pulled. "Ow ow, master, that hurts!" Tomodachi cried out. Linn stopped pulling Tomodachi's ears and gasped in shock. "Oh my god, those things are real!" Linn said, his jaw dropping.
''Of course, they're real!'' Tomodachi exclaimed. Linn stares at the naked boy.
''What are you?'' Linn asked.
''I told you I'm your dog, Tomodachi,'' Tomodachi said.
''But you look human and can talk,'' Linn said.
''I have also been able to talk,'' Tomodachi explained. ''But I guess you never understood me until now. As for why I'm human now, I don't know.''
''Ok, I think I get it,'' Linn said.
''So then!''-Tomodachi began saying excitedly before being cut off by Linn.
''hold on'' Linn said. ''I get that you're some sort of dog-human thing, but I still don't believe you're Tomodachi.''
''Oh…'' Tomodachi said sadly. ''What must I do to convince you that I am Tomodachi?''
''I don't know,'' Linn said, unsure. ''Do or say something that Tomodachi would know.''
"Oh, ok!" Tomodachi said happily. "I can start with you." Tomodachi began listing things he knew about his master. "Your name is Linn Tsukiyomi, you're 12 years old, you live in Nakamura town, you're a big fan of anime and wrestling, your best friends are Kailia Saotome," Tomodachi had a tone of disgust when he mentioned Kaila's name, "and Erica Tachibana." Tomodachi had a tone of happiness when he said Erica's name. "You like hamburger steak and hate fish."
''Ok, I think I got it,'' Linn said, trying to get Tomodachi to stop. Tomodachi continued.
''One time, when it was raining, you slipped on a puddle and fell on top of Kaila. She then kicked you in the man part, which is weird because she was blushing all the while. You sing your favorite anime theme song in your room at night. You sometimes pee in the bed, and you-
''OK THAT ENOUGH!'' Linn yelled, embarrassed. Tomodachi stopped. ''Do you believe me now?'' Tomodachi said hopefully.
"Well," Linn said. Linn began to think to himself. What Tomodachi said about Linn was mostly true, and Tomodachi was present for some of those 'incidents,' but Linn was still not completely convinced. "He does seem to know a lot about me, and he doesn't look like he's lying." Linn then had an idea. "I know! I'll try 'that.' Only Tomodachi would react to that." Linn looked at the dog-eared naked boy. The naked boy just stared with curious eyes. "Here goes nothing," Linn thought and raised his fingers. He snapped his fingers once.
Tomodachi's ears perked up, and he began drooling and searching for something. After a minute of looking, he gave up. ''There is no food here,'' he sighed sadly. Meanwhile, Linn was in shock.
'No way,' Linn thought. He then snapped his finger twice. Tomodachi ears perked up again, and this time, he ran toward Linn. Stopping before Linn, he crouched down on all fours and started wagging his tail and panting.
Linn still couldn't believe it. 'OK, one more time,' Linn thought as he snapped his fingers three times.
Tomodachi ears perked once again. This time, he got up and started growling ''who am I biting?! Tomodachi snarled, waiting for his master to designate a target. When no command was given, and he didn't see anyone around, Tomodachi blinked. ''There's no one here,'' Tomodachi said, confused. Linn just stared, mouth agape; those were commands that he trained Tomodachi to do, and the naked dog-haired boy performed all of them. Linn then came to one conclusion.
''Tomodachi…?'' Linn said slowly. Tomodachi turned towards Linn.
''Yes master?'' Tomodachi responded.
''It is you'' Linn said smiling. After hearing that, Tomodachi's eyes lightened up.
''Oh, master! you believe me!'' Tomodachi glopped Linn and began licking his face.
''Ok Tomo, that's enough'' Linn pushed Tomodachi off.
'But master, I thought you said you believed me,'' Tomodachi pouted.
''I do, but- ''While it's true that Linn believed that the boy was his dog, one glaring problem still made Linn uncomfortable.
''You're butt naked,'' Linn said uneasily.
Tomodachi blinked and looked down; he then shrugged. ''I'm always naked,'' Tomodachi stated.
''It's different now that you're human. I can see everything.'' Linn said.
''Is that a bad thing?'' Tomodachi questioned.
'Kinda?'' Linn replied ''Look, the point is you can't walk around naked. We need to find you some clothes.
''Um, master?'' Tomodachi said. ''Where are we going to find clothes? We're in the middle of nowhere.''
Sure enough, Linn looked around; they were still in a plain field with no sign of life anywhere. ''Good point,'' Linn said, putting a finger to his chin. ''we still don't know where we are.''
At that, Tomodachi asked ''why are we here master?''
''I don't know'' Linn replied. ''We jumped into the portal, and it dropped us here.''
Tomodachi cocked his head to the side. ''Why did we jump into a portal?'' Tomodachi asked innocently
''Because we came...to…'' at that Linn cocked his head. ''Why did I jump into the portal again?'' Linn asked, seemingly forgetting why he came here.
''Don't ask me'' Tomodachi said'' I just followed after you and Kaila''
''Oh right...'' Linn said. A metaphorical clock ticked in Linn's head before it rang. Linn had the most dumbfounded look on his face. ''That's right!!'' Linn remembered ''I came to save Kaila and Erica! How can I forget something so important?!'' Linn turned around and mentally kicked himself for forgetting.
Tomodachi cocked his head ''Save them? Are they in trouble? Is Erica also here? ''Tomodachi asked. Linn turns towards Tomodachi.
''There's no time to explain! We have to find them!'' Linn ran in a random direction.
''Ok'' Tomodachi ran after Linn.
''Wait wait wait'' Linn stopped Tomodachi.
''What what what?'' Tomodachi replied.
''You're still naked… ''Linn said pointing at Tomodachi.
''Master, now is not the time for that!'' Tomodachi scolded.
''I know! But we might run into someone. They might get the wrong idea,'' Linn said.
''Then what do you suppose we do?'' Tomodachi said, ''We don't have any spare clothes with us.'' At that, Linn had an idea.
''Yes we do.'' Linn said.
Linn took off his clothes and gave them to Tomodachi.
''Wear those'' Linn ordered.
''O-oh yes, master.'' Tomodachi took Linn's clothes and put them on.
''Is this good?'' Tomodachi asked.
''It's better. Now you're not completely naked.'' Linn smiled. Tomodachi sweatdropped.
''Um, master?'' Tomodachi asked.
''Yes, Tomo? Linn replied.
''It's good that I'm not naked anymore, but now you're half-naked.'' Tomodachi pointed at his master. Sure enough, Linn was in nothing but his boxers.
''It's fine as long as I'm wearing something,'' Linn smiled.
''If you say so'' Tomodachi said, uncertain.
''Let's go!'' Linn said as he and Tomodachi began running through the field.
Linn embarks on a new adventure with his faithful dog. Will he reunite with his best friends and find his way back home? Only time will tell.
