Lying down. Our hero was lying down. He was just lying down. WHAT ELSE ARE THERE TO SAY.
It was three days ago when our hero first got the idea of making a web novel. He was scrolling through MAL (myanimelist.net) when he saw an ad about a web novel writing contest. What's special about this contest is that the 3 people who win will have their web novel adapted as a manga.
If you don't know, manga is an umbrella term for a wide variety of comic books and graphic novels originally produced and published in Japan (got that straight out from google).
The sponsors for this event, Kodansha, the publishing company that will adapt the winning web novel to a manga, have produced many great mangas in the past. Mangas like (This part of the novel needed to be deleted because of copyright issues so uh.... YEAH I'M SORRY BRO I DIDN'T KNOW), all of which are very successful and needless to say, very good mangas.
If a manga gets big enough and gets a huge demand, it might be adapted to an anime. In fact, all of the mangas that I mentioned earlier were adapted to anime. Now, having my own personal work get adapted into an anime that people (like me) can watch is a dream come true, but it's still just a dream. *cries*.
I have no writing experience at all. The huge amount of people that would join this contest are probably already very experienced and have written many wonderful works in the past and that is why I didn't even bother joining. I didn't stand a chance.
After reading the entire ad, I actually thought about it for a while. I wasn't just thinking about the 5,000 USD grand prize or the manga adaptation for my work. I was thinking about how fun it would be.
Although I have no real experience or any real study on writing, I understand a lot of key stuff that make up a good story. I understand how a good plot works, how to make sure a character isn't bland or doesn't have a one-dimensional personality. I know how to keep proper plot pacing (if we even have a plot in the first place). I know how to keep people interested for a while (I don't really know about that one though).
If you haven't already noticed, I have a very intimate relationship with anime LOL. Anime was the most recent obsession I've indulged in. In total, I have seen 13.1 days of anime (314.4 hours or 18,864 minutes) which, for an average person, is A LOT, but for most of the anime community, that's almost nothing.
An average anime-lover would have around 30-100 days of anime. Anyone above 100 days is a hardcore anime fan. I got this info from the users of MAL. I checked a lot of different users from the community section and checked out their days watched and most of them fall under the 30-100 days range. The person I've seen with the most anime watched even reached up to 186.2 days (4,468.8 hours or 268 ,128 minutes) which is absolutely insane. Assuming that school starts at 7 am in the morning, has a one-hour lunch break, ends at 3 pm, and haves 180 school days every year, you only spend 1,260 hours of school yearly. He's been watching anime for 3.6 school years.
Anyways, I brought up anime because if it had not been for anime, I wouldn't be here writing this web novel. The only knowledge I have on story-making is anime. Because of my current obsession with anime, I've started writing reviews on anime and I've understood a lot of different criteria that make up a good story. After all, I found that ad on an anime website. So thank you anime for giving me the opportunity to make this.
A day after I had seen that ad, I messaged my best friend all about it and yeah, it took a day for me to message her LOL. At first, writing a web novel to me was a complete joke and a complete waste of time. Why should I spend my time and energy on something no one will probably read? nevertheless, after a day of thinking, I decided that I'll do it. I told her all about the ad and told her that I wanted to write a web novel for fun. I mean, it seems fun? right?
Honestly, I'm actually really enjoying this HAHA. Although it can get tiring since I'm aiming for 800 words per chapter daily and that's pretty difficult since I have no plot to begin with. If anything, me writing this novel is the plot itself. Damn, wait.. that technically is the plot. Every chapter is just another sub-plot contributing to the main plot which is me writing this story. MIND BLOUWN.
Oops, I have reached my 800-word goal so I guess I should end the chapter. See you tomorrow for another chapter!
