Chapter 8 - Fleeing With Heavy Injuries

As the Thunderstorm spell continued to condense, dark clouds filled the sky, and the entire space fell into darkness.

Seeing that the 'Thunderstorm' was ready, Locke raised the spear in his hand and pointed it toward the thunderstorms.

This shocked Clifford, who was casting the spell.

'Is this guy courting death?'

However, he quickly understood what Locke was doing. Locke absorbed all the lightning in the sky into the spear and released it towards the demoness. The lightning bolt struck the demoness in the face.

Boom! A loud explosion was heard.

A five-meter-wide pit was blasted into the ground, and the demoness disappeared with the explosion.

Clifford immediately flew over to check, but he could not find any remains of the demoness.

"Looks like we've been tricked! That was not her real body; she had already escaped!"

If he wanted to kill the demoness, he would have to destroy her coffin along with her body. He learnt this basic knowledge in the academy.

"I didn't expect her to be so cunning. She actually fled with her corpse!"

At this moment, Locke's system issued a mission. "Kill the hundred-year-old demoness. Reward: 10,000 EXP and 100 Merchant Shop Points."

This surprised Locke. He did not expect to receive a reward for killing the demoness.

This was a joyous occasion. However, he was puzzled. Where and how could he use the experience and credit points rewarded to him?

With this question in mind, Locke opened the system status bar to check, and found that the EXP allowed him to level up.

In other words, not only could Locke level up through all the real battles and fights he engaged in, he could also level up by completing missions.

'This is such a hack!'

However, he did not have the time to think about that now, because he did not know where Eliza had run off to!

Locke immediately checked out the village with Clifford.

As the demoness had already left the area, all the villagers had turned into walking corpses had dried up.

After searching for some time, they found a large well in the middle of the village.

They climbed down the rope in the well and realized that there was a naturally formed underground space right at the bottom. Following the underground path, they soon found a grave filled with resentment.

"Wha—! Who did this? Who moved all these vengeful souls to the underground space below the village?!"

All the coffins had traces of movement. Looking at the mud that had yet to dry, Clifford predicted that it had been less than ten days since these coffins were moved here.

After repeated searches, they did not find the coffin of the hundred-year-old demoness.

As they ventured deeper, they finally found Eliza, who was gnawing on the source of darkness. As it continued to devour the source of darkness underground, Eliza's scales had already turned slightly black.

Locke immediately stepped forward to stop it, but it was too late. Eliza's entire body had turned black, and she even burped.

"Huh!"

Eliza, who had eaten her fill, flew behind Locke. She floated behind him and fell asleep.

Clifford immediately cast a detection spell on the little dragon's black body, only to discover that the little creature was completely fine. It was just that it had eaten too much, so the dark energy had not been fully digested. All the dark energy had seeped into its skin, so it looked like it had been dyed black.

Looking at Clifford's amused expression, Locke asked anxiously, "How is it? Did anything happen to its body?"

"No, it just ate too much!"

Locke thought Clifford was joking, but Clifford's solemn expression told him it was all true.

"What should we do now?"

"There's a dark ore vein underground in this village. Let's destroy all the coffins first, and then we'll go after the hundred-year-old demoness! It won't be long before everyone nearby becomes her food!"

After finishing their work in the underground cave, the two crawled back above the ground and realized that it was already dawn. However, their work was not done. They still needed to bury all the bodies in the village. Otherwise, this place would soon produce ghouls.

It was noon when all the bodies were buried underground.

Due to exhaustion, the two found a room and cooked some food. After they finished eating, they slept in the village. Because they had to wake up before night, they did not sleep for long and woke up in the evening. They then mounted their horses and rode along the foot of the village toward the next village.

After arriving at the next village, they discovered that there was nothing wrong with the village. The two of them dismounted from their horses and entered the village to inquire about the demoness.

The two asked all the victims' families, but they did not get any useful information. The only thing they found out was that there was a village in the middle of the mountains, and there were many people there. It was clear that it was the perfect place for the demoness to seek out a whole lot of victims.

The two of them immediately rode toward the village. However, because the road was extremely steep, the two of them did not ride their horses.

At this moment, Eliza, who was sleeping behind Locke, suddenly grew larger and larger. The source of darkness that it had devoured early had completely digested in its body, causing its body to grow.

Sensing Locke's anxious thoughts, Eliza carried Locke on her back and flew toward the mountain.

Seeing this, Clifford had no choice but to release the two horses. He then pulled out an extendable wand from his waist, raised his hand, and cast a flying spell to chase after Locke.

Locke had just arrived at the village in the mountains when he discovered that he was too late. The villagers had all turned into walking corpses.

Furious and enraged, Locke immediately charged towards the demoness who was in the midst of absorbing souls. Sensing Locke's attack, the demoness disappeared from the ground.

This time, she felt unprecedented danger. It seemed that the dangerous aura came from the young white dragon that Locke was riding!

She kept dodging Locke's attacks while staring at the young dragon that was overflowing with light attributes!

Soon enough, Locke noticed the strange expression on the demoness' face, and immediately separated from Eliza. The human and dragon then attacked the demoness rapidly from both sides.

From afar, Clifford who had just arrived at the scene, saw that the demoness was occupied in the fight with Locke and Eliza. He secretly sneaked into the village from an unseen corner and prepared to destroy demoness' coffin which was hidden underground. He knew that that was the only way to ensure the complete annihilation of this demoness.
