The uncertainty grew as she entered the royal capital. Perhaps, as Henry suggested the day before she went, her memories of former lifetimes were the result of her crazy imagination, if not delusions.
"Well, first things first—
(1) Never engage yourself with the prince
(2) Do not approach the mistress
(3) Enjoy the amusing show from afar, and be sure to keep the previous two rules," she said as she arrived at the castle. Maggie took a deep breath and entered the castle doors, hoping and praying that nothing bad would happen to her.
As she approached the kingdom's gates, she recalled her earlier experiences in the palace garden, where she used to play with her father and hold tea parties with her friends. As she got closer, her eyes widened as the statue she had built in honour of her father after the old emperor died was replaced by the statue of the traitor. Her body was on fire with rage, but she took a deep breath and sighed.
"I'm not Candence; remember, Maggie, you're not the queen, but a baroness's daughter." "You're here for your brother and family, not to vent your rage," she said quietly, taking long breaths.
She stated that the past is the past and that she is not the one to determine whether she is doing good or poorly. It was her sin to thrust individuals, and what occurred to her resulted in her death. Maggie is now the daughter of a baron and a royal palace attendant. She doesn't have to deal with Estephen or Cosette because they are both dead, and there is no reason for her to seek vengeance. Her main purpose is to guard the princess while staying away from the prince and the mistress.
She could see the maids outside and liked their outfits as she walked. The uniforms resemble the servants she wore at the Canterbury home, and as she examines, she recalls that in my past life as a queen, many maids came from baron and viscount families—there are far too many low-ranking aristocrats in our realm. It was plenty for her because a maid from a wealthy home would be ludicrous.
She was wandering near the garden when she was stopped by a guard, who turned out to be a young knight. The knight appeared familiar, and as she stared at him, she was taken aback because she recognized him as the son of one of the ministers and recalled him as a tiny boy, and now that she sees him, the little boy she knew has grown into a lovely man.
As the guard approached her, he asked, "State your business here, lady?"
"Oh, I'm here to apply for the post of maid," Maggie said. "Oh, I see, please come this way, this room belongs to Miss Rebecca, and only her staff or important persons are permitted to enter."
"I understand, I apologize," Maggie responded, "could you please lead me to the maid's office?"
"Sure, I'm also going that way," the knight responded as she assisted her in being escorted.
As they go, they come across a massive building that was the palace's mansion. "Thank you, nice sir," Maggie remarked.
"It's my responsibility," the knight remarked as he looked at her. As he looks at her, he can't help but admire her beauty.
Maggie looked perplexed as she noticed him looking around for words, "Okay, dear sir, I may take my leave," she said.
"Its Luke Kinger, miss…"
"Maggie.. Margaret Cunningham" said Maggie introducing herself
"Oh Miss Maggie, it's a cute name.. wait.. cute, I'm so sorry"
Seeing his reaction, she smiles and waves him goodbye while Luke stood there daydreaming about her. As Maggie stepped into the maid's office, carrying a small handbag and wearing on one of the dress she stitched newly. She had to enter through the back door, one she never used when she was Queen Candence.
As she strolled through the royal hallways, memories flooded back to her, recalling her days as queen. As she entered the maid's office and knocked on the door, a voice within said, "Who's it?"
Maggie noticed a familiar face as she walked in. One of the maids named Marylyn, whom she knew in her past life, is now the head maid.
"Who are you?" inquired the head maid.
"Let me introduce myself, my name is Margaret Cunningham, and I was suggested by my father, the baron," Maggie explained.
"Ah! I've been waiting for you, Miss Cunningham." said the maid
"I'm under you care Madam" said Maggie
As they both interviewed, she was accepted and given a tour of the palace. As she walked she could see that nothing has changed but the environment was different as compared to her time as the queen, she felt nervous and hoped that she must not meet the prince nor face Lady Rebecca. After the tour, she was taken to the maid's quarters.
"Please put on this maid uniform. As you may have guessed from our description, you are currently assigned to the princess in the western side of the palace, where you serve as a personal maid to Princess Amelia. "I hope from the baron's letter that you have been a maid since the age of ten and have also volunteered to take care of the children in the orphanage," said the head maid.
"Yes, Ma'am, I have experience nursing children," Maggie responded.
"Splendid, so you'll have to head there. That area lacks manpower, so it seems you'll be in charge of everything—but it's fine, right? After all, you look sturdy." The Head Maid snorted through her nose while staring at Maggie.
Marylyn was just as she had imagined; she was the head maid, just as she had been in her prior life. Among the six countess who worked as maids there, Marylyn, who had ascended the ladders and become the head maid, had a particularly unpleasant personality. Regardless, if it was the former queen Cadence, Marylyn would still be a bother to her. But she can't do anything because she no longer has the authority to scold. So she'll have to deal with a bossy employer for the rest of her life.
"Yes, I understand," Maggie stated
Soon, Maggie received the maid uniform and bowed her head. After all, there was no way Marylyn would bow and greet a baroness like her. That would cause quite a shock. She was sure Marlyn knew she came from the countryside. She borrowed the dressing room and changed into her maid attire. She admired the dress as she always wanted to wear Victorian maid attires but could not wear in the Cunningham house as the maids there wore a different style. Now that she worked here, she admired the frilly dress. After setting her hair, as ordered, She thus headed towards the western palace as said.
A very old building stood in the corner of the royal palace. She had forgotten how many generations of queens had reigned, but isn't that villa supposed to accommodate very old people in order to heal them?
Maggie was supposed to serve Amelia, who was nine years old. As she walked in, she decided she'd introduce herself to the house staff: "Nice to meet you! "My name is Margaret, a lady from the house of Baron Cunningham, but you may call me Maggie!" she said as she stepped through the castle door, but no butler greeted her. As a result, Maggie had no choice but to announce her arrival.
However, no response was received. Maggie furrowed her eyebrows, even though the establishment was chronically understaffed—how could there not be a single servant here? She truly is a princess! Even royalty!
She could tell the Prince wanted a son, not a daughter, and when she introduced herself to the maids at the office, they cautioned her not to make too much of an effort because the princess was not regarded a member of the royal family. She can now comprehend how Estephen must have felt after his kingdom was devastated. It was both of their responsibility that he had to avenge his people. But how can a prince do such a thing?
"But... how is a female expected to live in such a way?" This is excessive." Maggie shook her head, as if her royalty mode had been activated. Despite the fact that she wanted to throw it away. Maggie entered the imperial palace slowly at that time, knowing that no one would welcome her.
Everything seemed old and damaged, and the structure was obviously neglected. She was walking through the run-down building when she noticed a girl laying in a sunny area of the corridor.
