Let's just call the Babbler 'Bobi'. He was one among the 5 children his parents had and had just started to grow wing feathers when the disaster happened. The earth trembled, trees were falling one after the other, his parents stood with them to protect them but they couldn't do anything with the small and weak body they had.
When Bobi regained consciousness he was lying in an clearing a little far from his home covered in leaves. He ran towards his nest through the fallen trees, stumbling and falling into the muddy ground, trying his best to find his parents and siblings. Although it had only been a few days that he had known them, they were the only people he knew and he loved them all. They were the first people he saw when he first opened his eyes and they had been taking care of him since. His 4 siblings were his best friends, they played games, teased each other and enjoyed their time when their parents were not around. His eldest brother was a little bully and was the strongest among them all. He used to eat from others' food too. But he protected them in the absence of their parents and cared a lot for them deep inside even though he did not show it. Our little Bobi had started crying aloud by the time he found the destroyed nest and the horror of things he saw after that scared him to the bones. His parents and siblings were crushed under the branches of the tree. Only his eldest brother had some sign of life. Bobi struggled, cried, tried to push the branch away and failed.
The immense sorrow of watching his sibling die infront of him snapped something inside him. He couldn't cry anymore, he wasn't sad anymore, he felt like their life doesn't matter to him. He remembered how he got separated, he was the smallest and youngest among the lot, on the day of disaster he fell from the nest when a strong wind hit the tree. It carried him away from his home and threw him into a pile of leaves in the clearing.
He started to walk away from the nest aimlessly towards the big beautiful mountain he always admired but his tiny feet and little wings couldn't do much. He collapsed near a big open ground at the end of the forest and went into deep sleep.
