Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 3: SURVIVAL 2

Part 2: Problems, Hopes and Dreams

Flying in circles around the forest a few hundred miles to the east of the Dragon valley, Danny was observing her territory. To ensure a constant supply of food and to prevent other dragons from taking her spot, Danny had to create a territory of her own, so she chose this particular forest. This forest has a lot of tall trees and a vast grasslands which not only host a lot of animals but also contains fruits and berries of high medicinal value to dragons. There is a lake at the east side of the forest which is a good source of drinking water and is  frequently visited by a lot of animals. Then there is a little elevated clearing at the end of the forest to the west, perfect for her to rest and take off whenever she felt like.

One of the major problems she is currently facing is finding food. Although there are a lot of animals in the forest, she can't hunt efficiently. The only ones she was able to catch are lions, crocodiles and vultures, and all of them make her feel sick. They taste awful but they are the only ones she can catch. She is able to catch them because lions get confused on seeing her as they believe they are the top most predator around here and don't run away quickly. Crocodiles are always easy to find and to catch but tastes the worst. It's easier for her to hunt in air and as vultures are comparatively bigger birds, they are an easy target.

Danny like deer and bear meat, but deer herds are very alert and quick so it's almost impossible for her to hunt them down and bears are very rare in this forest. She tried hunting deer herds many times but even before she sees them they run away. Even if she chases them it will only result in her falling into the trees and hurting herself, those creatures are tricky, clever and fast. it's hard to find a herd and by the time she finds one they would have already sensed her presence and ran. If she could predict where they would go then it would be easier for her to catch them, she just needs more experience.

The second problem is the strangest thing she has ever felt. She was feeling lonely. It's not like she had a lot of friends in the valley but something was always going on around her and that kept her mind occupied, but now that she is totally alone, it has become too peaceful that it feels boring. Still the thought of making a friend creeps her out. She has never had a friend before so it seemed silly and embarrassing for her to even think about it. I hope she finds the answer soon just like how she found the courage to face the world. As the sun goes down Danny slowly drifted off to sleep. A couple of metres away behind the trees slept our little Bobi dreaming of the majestic dragon that brought him food.
