"Jamie, two foxes are arriving."
Jamie and Amber both moved to their laptops, touching the touchpad to remove the black screensaver. Looking at the screen, all Jamie could see was hay.
"Eve, I can't see anything."
"I can hear them approaching."
Jamie turned to Amber, who was sitting crossed legged on the floor in front of her laptop, looking at the screen while putting a earphone into her ear. "Amber, can you see anything on your feed?"
Amber shook her head, Jamie sent a mental message to Eve "Can you move so I can get a clear view of the feed?"
"No. Not without alerting the foxes."
Jamie sighed, then leaned back, reaching for an earphone. "Do what you think is best. Try to kill a fox in one shot, while minimizing it's struggle."
Jamie sat watching the screen for five minutes in silence, with all he could see on the screen was hay. Jamie turned away from the screen as and reached for a bottle of water,. As he grabbed the bottle, he could hear a rustling in his ear, and when he hastily looked back at the screen, he could see Eve rapidly moving towards a red fox, two feet away from one of the cattle. The fox took a step backwards while opening it's mouth, a silver glow object forming around it's mouth. Eve leaped on it, putting a paw on it's neck and pushing it to the ground, disrupting the skill forming. Eve then bit into it's throat, killing it.
Jamie looked at Amber and asked "Did you kill yours?"
Amber waited for a couple of seconds, then said "Killed it."
"Eve, bring the fox to the door."
One minute later, after checking with their beasts to be sure that they couldn't detect any foxes in the vicinity, they opened the entrance and carried the corpses inside. Jamie inspected the corpse after dropping it on the ground. Standing on four paws, it would be about It was 60 cm tall, with a reddish brown fur, and a grey tipped tail. Two holes in its neck could be seen, along with blood around the holes. Jamie turned to look at Amber's corpse the foxes looked almost identical, except Ambers had two gashes on it's back. Jamie sent mentally to Eve "Did the corpse leave any blood outside?"
"A few drops. I'll drop some of that ….special hay...on it."
Jamie turned to Amber and asked "Did you cover the blood it left behind?"
Amber nodded "Leo has a skill that can help cover scents. And you?"
"Eve is going to put some of that hay covered in manure on the blood drops."
Amber winced before saying "good."
Jamie sat back in front of the laptop, eating a muesli bar, while looking at the laptop. Ten minutes later, he started stretching, bored. He sent a mental command to Eve "Let me know when another fox approaches."
Jamie minimized and muted the video feed, then started watching a league match he downloaded earlier. It was a league match between Battlepet Masters Alexander and Thomas. The match style was a 6v6, with each match one on one. When a beast losses a match, it gets eliminated, and the winner can choose to recall the winning beast and send it out later to fight, or keep it in battle against the next beast. Once one person's beasts have all lost, the winner is declared.
Another ten minutes had passed when he heard Eve's mental communication "A fox approaches."
"How many?"
"1"
Jamie looked at Amber. "One approaches. You can take this one, the next single one is mine."
Amber flashed a smile with her pearly white teeth. "Thanks."
"Eve, leave this one to Leo."
"Leo?"
"The leopard."
Ten minutes later, Amber was dragging a corpse into the building. Jamie kept his eyes glued to the laptop watching the league match while she added another corpse to the pile, spraying deodorant in the air to help cover the smell.
After she was done, she looked towards Jamie glued to his screen "What are you watching?"
"I'm watching a league match."
"Mind if I watch with you?"
Jamie hesitated, before answering back "Sure."
Jamie readjusted his sitting position, sitting with one leg tucked under the other leg, which had it's knee up. He shifted the laptop to his left, and held an earphone to Amber, who sat down next to him, mirroring his sitting posture an accepting the earphone. They sat next to each other, shoulders touching, and when Jamie breathed in, he could smell a faint fragrance wafting from her. Jamie leaned back slightly, leaning on his right arm. He restarted the video and they started watching.
Roughly thirty minutes later, when the match was finished, Jamie asked "How was it?"
"Good matches. Alexander should have won though. He should have sent his Four Winged Falcon in earlier, instead of trying to reserve it's strength for the later matches. He could have taken out a couple of the Thomas's beasts, then sent it back to regain it's physical stamina while drawing out the rest period by getting his other beasts to delay as much as possible."
Jamie leaned forward. "I don't think that would have worked. Alexander sent out four of his beasts to exhaust the Three Clawed Dragon. His Four Winged Falcon was able to eliminate it instantly as a result."
Amber shook her head. "He should have sent out the Two Tailed Turtle to do that. It could have just defended itself and dragg...."
They spent another five minutes arguing before Eve interrupted. "Jamie, another one approaches."
Five minutes later, Jamie dropped another corpse in on the ground. After dropping it on the ground, he started to walk back to his laptop. Amber wrinkled her nose and said "Stop. Use the deodorant on the ground first."
Jamie sniffed himself. He could smell nothing, but shrugged, and sprayed the deodorant and then sat in front of the laptop again, mirroring Amber's sitting position. He brought up another video of a league match, this one titled 'Isabella VS Robert.' Amber's amber eyes glinted as she read the tittle of the video.
Thirty minutes later, Jamie leaned back, with a grimace on his face. "Not much to say about that one."
Amber chuckled. "She stomped Robert into the dirt. 6 – 0."
"Isabella's Blue Leopard was pretty impressive. It managed to singlehandedly take down two beasts without resting. What's up with that skill it managed to use to finish the Cerberus?"
"It was constantly injecting it's water affiliated essence energy into the Cerberus each time it bit or clawed it. When enough had gathered, it froze the energy inside it's body."
"Can yours do that?"
Amber shook her head. 'Not yet, it should learn it at sta....."
"Jamie, four foxes approach."
Jamie froze up. Jamie turned to Amber, saying "So, four. Do you think..."
Amber nodded. "They should at least suspect the other foxes were killed."
Jamie exited the league video and minimized the downloads tab, bringing up the video feed, while Amber moved to her own laptop. He sent a mental message to Eve "They might suspect the other foxes were killed. You might not be able to ambush them this time."
Jamie watched the video feed. All he could see was hay. Suddenly, five seconds later, a tint of silver could be seen on the image. Jamie cursed, mentally sending "Eve, MOVE!"
The vision on the screen changed in a blink. The silver tinted hay was replaced by the brownish red fur of a fox as Eve moved instantaneously and empowered her bite to kill a fox. As the fox stiffened, Eve's yelp could be heard before the fox started dropping to the ground and the image blurred as she ran forwards, before circling around.
Another fox with reddish brown fur could be seen in the video feed. A silver, glowing spear was forming around it's open mouth. The feed around the started to darken as the spear formed and shot forwards and a rapid pace.
Jamie clenched his fist, hunched over the screen, helpless. He held back in sending a mental message to Eve, in fear of distracting her. "The black should be form her Black Smog forming. " Jamie thought, trying to reassure himself. "She should be fine."
Ten seconds later, the the Black Smog started to disperse, and images tinted in green and black started to become visible. Squinting, Jamie made out the fur on the neck of the fox. Jamie sighed and leaned back, relieved. He mentally sent "How is it?"
"It's my second one killed."
"Goo...."
A hissing sound could be heard. Jamie's eyes widened as he sent urgently to Eve "Help out Leo."
The screen blurred, as Eve released the fox and hastily moved towards the yelping sound. Seconds later, A leopard could be seen standing, hissing, as two foxes circled around. The foxes turned to look towards Eve as they could hear the thuds of her paws as she approached. As they were distracted, Leo moved forwards instantaneously towards the one in front, stabbing it's paw into the foxes eye.
As Leo's victim let out a yelp, Eve rushed towards the other fox as it turned around, snarling. It started to open it's mouth as a small silver glowing spear started to form around it. The screen started to blacken once again.
Ten seconds later, the screen cleared. Another fox could be seen lying on the ground. Eve looked up, and Leo could be seen standing over the corpse of the last fox, with reddish liquid flowing from a hole in it's stomach.
Amber and Jamie collectively let out a sigh of relief. It was over.
