Chapter 30 - Chapter 29 - Reporting the Momo Group

Jamie looked across the field of dry grass to the horizon, where he could see multiple bloody, red mist, hanging in the air, barely visible in the glow of the sun, akin to the one trailing the Momo he had just lured away from town. He couldn't see any humanoid figures, but Jamie thought it was likely because they were just too far for him to make out their humanoid silhouettes. Eve got up, and turned to look in the direction that Jamie was looking. She started trembling and sent to Jamie. "Fifteen more Momo."

As they stood their watching the bloody red mist, a blue van drove up behind them, with the window winding down as it approached. Pulling up behind Jamie, she asked with a grin "Need a ride?"

Jamie turned to look at Amber, gesturing to the red mist "Look at that."

Amber squinted at the bloody red mist, then froze as Jamie continued. "Eve spots fifteen. Their might be more."

Amber took a deep breath. "We need to report this. I have a camera in the van, just wait a moment."

Amber got out, and made her way to the back of the van, along with Jamie. As she opened the back door, Jamie asked "Do you have some water I can use? It's for Eve."

Amber paused for a moment, then nodded and said to Jamie. "There's plenty of water left in the cooler. Grab one of the plastic cups in the esky, although keep it out later when you are done. "

Amber entered the van first and bent down, searching an area around the far right corner of the van, while her beasts sat in the other corner facing outside. Jamie opened the blue esky, searching inside it for the cups while occasionally stealing glances at Amber. Finding a collection of colored cups sitting on top of each other, he grabbed a red cup and the blue cooler, and dragged it outside. He poured water into the cup, and bent down to place the cup on the ground so Eve could drink. Amber exited the van shortly after Jamie filled the second cup with water for Eve to drink, holding a black camera, then proceeded to take a couple of pictures of the bloody red mist.

"Please tell me you are joking."

Jamie and Amber stood next to each other, inside the two floor, blue and white building of the police station. Facing them, standing behind a blue and white desk, was a porty female, in a blue officers uniform screeching. Amber held out the card from her camera to the officer.

"We are serious. The photos of the bloody red mist can be seen on here, and you can vaguely see the human silhouettes in the photos. Eve said she could see fifteen. There may be more coming in other locations too."

The women started to hyperventilate. Eventually, she closed her eyes, and took a couple of deep breaths. She opened her eyes, then accepted the card, attaching it to the computer, and copied the images to her desktop. She handed the card back to Amber as she opened the images. She scrutinized it carefully before closing her eyes, taking a couple of deep breaths, rubbing her temples. She then picked up the white phone on the desk and called someone.

"Brad, come down to reception. There is something you need to see."

Putting down the phone, she looked towards Amber and Jamie, forcing a shaky smile on her face. She said "Just wait one moment please."

After five minutes had passed, and a tall, well muscled man with black eyes in a crisp police uniform made his way over to them. As he reached the back of the reception desk he asked "Molly, what is it?"

Molly moved slightly to give Brad a clear view of the screen, gesturing towards it. "Look at the photo."

Brad turned to look at the screen, and his eyes narrowed as he studied it. He let out a sigh, and turned to look at Jamie and Amber, standing in front of the reception desk, bonded beasts behind them. "Where was it?"

"East of the town."

Brad nodded. "Thank you for letting us know. Would you be willing to help some more?"

As they opened their mouths, Brad held up a hand. "I'm not asking you to fight with that group of Momo. That's suicide. In the town, some of the officers are still fighting the Momo. I want you to help my men incapacitate or kill the Momo's they are currently fighting."

They both hesitated and looked at each other for a moment. Looking back at Brad, Jamie asked "What about the Momo group outside town?"

Brad sighed. "I plan to evacuate the town. Groups of creatures have been continually making large journeys to this town lately. Something is drawing them in, and I don't know what. I will also contact my boss, letting him know of the situation."

"Okay."

"We will help."

"Thank you."

Brad turned to look at inside the building, yelling out "David!"

A slim man, in his early 20s, with a wide face, large nose, and black eyes in a creased police uniform walked out of the building. Brad looked at him and said "I want you to go with these people to the locations our officers are fighting the Momo in the city. Incapacitate or eliminate the Momo.

"Okay Dad."

"Pull over here."

Jamie pulled over next to a half demolished wooden house, with the blue van behind him parking behind. Jamie exited his van with David, letting out his bonded beasts out the back, and waiting for Amber. Once they were all together, David led the way forward.

Two blocks down, the sound of hissing, grunting and cursing could be heard. Eventually, on a street to the side of a house, they could see seven officers entangled with two Momo. One half shredded body of an officer could be seen lying on the street. Jamie sent mentally to Eve, "how long can you hold the Black Smog for?"

Eve hesitated, before sending "Three minutes, maybe four."

"Can you keep the Momo in the Black Smog?"

"I can."

Jamie turned to David. "I can hold one Momo for three minutes. Beyond that, I am not sure."

David nodded. "I can work with that."

David pointed to the Momo on the far right, entangled with four officers darting around it, barely avoiding it's attacks. "Keep that one occupied."

Eve darted forward. As she closed in on the Momo, the Momo, swiped forward at one officer with a rippling, blue spear, with a chilling, icy tip. The officer leaped back, but the blow grazed the man, tearing of a chunk of skin. As the officer hissed in pain and the Momo took a step forward to follow up with the attack, two officers stabbed at the back of the knees, at the joints, causing it to collapse forward briefly before it caught itself, straightening up and turning around just as those two officers backed off. It was at that moment Eve ran into the Momo's aura. The moment that Kevin Smith, the man who was with her since her birth, looking after her, failed to return home with Michael and Jamie after they had returned from Windia seven years ago flashed in her mind. Eve howled as she continued to run forwards, closing in on the Momo, trying to bury the memories of grief and heartache.

As she howled, the Black Smog started to form around her, and the five combatants eyes drew towards her. David, running behind her, took that moment to signal to the officers, getting them to hastily retreat from the Momo. The Momo took two steps towards Eve before, the Black Smog snapped into place, blocking anyone from seeing inside the smog except Eve.

As the Black Smog formed into place, David pointed at the other Momo, who was sluggishly swiping at three officers as they circled around it, and ran towards it, with the officers following him. As they ran towards it, David said "We have three minutes. We need to incapacitate or kill it. Target it's eyes, mouth, or joints."

David held out his hand, and brown light started to stream towards his hand, before it stopped, and a long, brown sledgehammer began to form.

The Momo turned towards David's direction as it heard the footsteps. The officers hassling the Momo quickly reacted, moving behind the Momo, and slamming their spears into the back of the joints of the Momo's legs as it turned, bringing it knees to the grounds. As it fell to the ground, the officer at the back of Davids group raised his right hand, a golden ball forming rapidly, before it erupted in a blinding light.

Approaching the Momo, David raised the brown sledgehammer above his head. It started glowing as David halted in front of the Momo, and slammed the brown, glowing sledgehammer into the Momo's head. Once it connected, a flash of brown light erupted accompanied by an audible crack, and the sledgehammer started dulling, before crumbling. David took a step back as the Momo screeched, the top of it's head now carrying a visible dent, and an officer took the chance to jab his fiery tipped red spear into the Momo's throat. The Momo's eyes widened, and two other officers proceeded to slam their blue and brown spears towards the Momo's eyes. The Momo closed it's eyes and moved it's hand forwards to grip the red spear in it's throat. The spears slammed into it's eyelids, pushing the Momo's head back, and the Momo moved it's hands in a burst of speed, grabbing the spears that had slammed into it's eyelids of it's now red eyes, and pulling it, and it's occupants towards him. One of the officers reacted swiftly, letting go of the his blue spear, while the other officer was too slow, and was jerked forwards towards the Momo's brown coated arms, and was impaled.
