The one that uttered those words was actually a guard of this village. Though I wouldn't say that it's a guard as from the look of it, this person might just be a volunteer in this village who's patrolling around the village when it's night.
I guess I should just be honest with our situation right now, there's no point in lying at this moment. Because there's nothing for us to gain at all.
"Actually we are homeless and don't have anywhere to stay for tonight. That's why we are standing here trying to figure out where we will be sleeping." I simply said that to the guy.
"Oh! So you were the people that I was hearing from the villager… the suspicious-looking one." The man said that.
"Well I am not going to deny that we are looking suspicious but we mean no harm at all. It was just things that had been rough for the both of us." I said.
"I wouldn't pray to your business here but the villager does complain about the both of you… so I must take care of it, plus I also wouldn't want you people to be prowling in the village at night. It just makes the villagers uneasy in their house and if anything happens. You guys would surely get blamed." The man said that.
"I understand that but there's nothing we can do right now, going out of this village would be way dangerous for us… We might get eaten out alive by wolves." I said that.
Our option was fairly limited and the only way for us to survive the night was to stay inside of this village. Even if that would mean our sleep wouldn't get comfortable at all. At least we are able to stay alive that way.
"Well if you want, you both could sleep at my house. It's not far from here and it's not like I am going to be home tonight since it's my turn to look around the village for the entire night." The man said that offering his place for us to stay the night.
Hearing the man say that was quite surprising as I did not expect him to let us do that. As none of the villagers are willing to do that as they are afraid of us, not even if the villagers own their homes.
So for the man offering us to stay in his house, while he's out patrolling the village the entire night. Doesn't he have a slight worry that something might happen if we are left alone in his house?
People would at least be afraid of doing such stuff, especially to strangers… So somehow I do feel a bit weird about how this man could casually offer that kind of stuff to the people he just met.
"Are you sure about that, you don't know us at all? I am happy with it but do you really want someone you didn't know and was looking like this to be at your house unwatch?" I said that to that man.
The man then smiles at me and gives me the answer, "Because I didn't think the both of you would be doing something bad… I guess that's my bad trait, I am the type that will easily pity someone and help them. That's part of the reason I am doing patrol all alone again."
So he's saying that he is a nice guy… seems like that was the case here.
Well, I know that type of person exists but somehow I do not trust people who are nice. Because they probably had their agenda and tried to cover it up by being nice.
At least that's what my experience taught me back in my old world. Most of my classmates do that and act nice but actually, they wanted something from me.
But it's not like I am going to say that every reason for being nice is because of something evil. Because there are people out there that would be doing all of this out of kindness and don't expect anything in return.
Though I just need to be a bit cautious since we are dealing with strangers here.
Still despite all of them, I am still going to just accept this help from this man. Because it's still better to have a roof under our heads. Plus it's better as the both of us could sleep for this night before heading to our next destination.
Ah! We still haven't figured out what we're going to do. Well, I know my main goal is heading to the battlefield where Riku is right now. But we still need to gain some proper equipment and a lot of other stuff as well.
I suppose before the both of us sleep, the both of us should be discussing this matter. Because who knows that Aniele has a good idea of what we should be doing in order to gain the item we need.
"So what's the answer then? I'm okay if you are not comfortable with that offer." The man said.
I guess I took quite some time to think about the answer. Should be giving him my answer now.
"Oh! Well if that is the case, then I would be accepting that offer." I paused for a bit, "Umm… Do you mind showing the way to your house?"
"Sure, just follow me for a bit as I do need to finish my patrol first." The man said that.
…
So with that, the both of us follow the man on his patrol around the village.
The experience was all silent as none of us said a word. Well, it's not like we have any topic to talk about so it's only natural that there's this weird atmosphere around us.
I do want to ask something but I guess I should just embrace the silence for now. It's better that way as I am not that sort of a person who likes to talk anyway.
