It was the morning and Hotaro was wearing an apron with ducks printed on it. It was something he got in the morning and it was already paid for. He had no idea who paid for this but accepted it nonetheless.
Hana was in the bathtub taking a bath and playing with her bathtub ducky which they got on their visit yesterday while the stuff that Akari possessed was being moved in her room keeping her busy. They arrived really early in the morning. Knowing that she will be pretty exhausted even after just giving instructions, he decided to make something for her.
For himself and Hana, he was toasting the bread and was making half-fried eggs. Hana's milk was being left to boil and two coffee were ready too. Once he was done with his and Hana's breakfast, he rolled up his sleeves and started making Akari's breakfast. While making it, the delicious smell was spread in the kitchen. The sizzling of vegetables and fish was heard.
The rice was cooked and he checked the stove and took off the lid of the pot and nodded satisfied. Soon, the breakfast was ready to get in everyone's bellies and all Hotaro had to do now was wait for the two.
In the meantime, he was washing the cooking utensils while the breakfast was completely set on the table with chopsticks and glasses with beverages there. When done, he took off the apron and sat down waiting for the two to come and start eating.
The first one to come was Akari who had still not taken a bath. She stretched her hands and cracked her neck and saw Hotaro sitting down with the breakfast covered. She saw that there were lot more utensils placed opposite to Hotaro. When his eyes fell on her, he signaled her to come to sit down.
"I was actually thinking to take a bath before eating," she said to him but her stomach growled loudly.
Her face flushed because of the embarrassing sound her stomach made and she averted her gaze. Hotaro chuckled and she sat down opposite him but did not touch the food yet, waiting for Hana. Speaking of which…
"The ghost is back," came a sound from the door, and Hana with her hair in front of her jumped at Hotaro.
"AHHH! No, please spare me! I have a little sister," he pleaded.
"Hehe, it's me again Onii-chan. You can be scared very easily," Hana said while giggling.
"I do have a weak heart so I can really faint if you do this," Hotaro said jokingly. "Now let's get your hair dried. Hajime-san, you can start with your breakfast because we will take some time."
The siblings went upstairs and Akari stared at her food. She did not want to start on her own because it was considered a bad manner but her stomach disagreed with her.
'He did say I can start so I think that is okay.'
"Wh-"
As she took off the lids of the plates and bowls before her, her eyes widened. She had fried fish, pickled vegetables, and rice, and miso soup along with a coffee which was still covered.
"This guy…"
She picked up her chopsticks and started eating her food with a satisfied expression on her face. She was eating really quickly and she was surprised that he made this much breakfast for her. She had a very big appetite herself and doesn't really hide that fact but she still did not expect him to make this much food.
The aforementioned person came with his sister who had a happy smile on her face. She sat between the two and Hotaro sat down opposite Akari. Hana uncovered her plate and there was a half-fried egg cut for her already along with toast. Hotaro had the same breakfast.
Akari stared at her food and then back at her own. Hotaro noticed that and just smiled.
"Don't worry Hajime-san, Hana and I eat only about this much. You have been working since the morning so I made this especially for you," he said as he took a bite of the egg. "Could have been better."
"But even if you say that, you made a lot," she said and Hotaro looked at her with the bread in his mouth saying something. "Swallow it before you speak."
Hotaro nodded and swallowed the bread and said, "Well, don't you have a large appetite Hajime-san?"
"How did you…." she said surprised.
"I saw yesterday, you ate a lot more than the others. I thought that there could be another reason behind but nothing else made any sense."
"You are very observant."
"You can say that. It compensates for my lack of physical strength."
"That is why I will be strong and protect Onii-chan from ghosts," Hana said joining the conversation puffing her chest.
"You sure will," Hotaro said with a smile and started patting her head.
The three of them continued eating their breakfast without talking much. When everything was done, one last demon was left to be conquered, the milk. Though this time, hero Hana was able to defeat it with ease drinking it with a smile on her face.
"Hana-chan sure loves milk," Akari commented and Hana nodded.
"Mhm, the milk here in japan is sweet and really tasty," she said with a smile on her face.
"Sweet, you say?" Akari looked at Hotaro who placed his index finger on his lips closing his left eye telling Akari to be quiet about this matter.
They looked at Hana was drinking the milk happily and once they were done, Hotaro gathered everyone's dishes and went inside to start washing them. Hana went to her room and Akari went to hers to do some final "modifications".
While doing the dishes which took longer than he expected as he saw just how many utensils he actually used for the breakfast, his mind wandered off to what to do today. The days before, he had an idea of what he was to do since it was not really hard for him to think that Hana needed some essentials things since she will be living with him now. Her books, uniform along with her school bag were already sent with her stuff so he had nothing else in his mind.
Hana was sitting in her room and happily writing in her diary. She did know how to write in Japanese and English too since she was made to learn these two languages at a young age. She knew a little more than a kid her age due to the difference in the education systems in the different countries but she actually really enjoyed the learning process. Her only good memories were the time she spent in her previous schools and the worst memories also came from there when she just went away without any notice.
"But Oni-chan is here with me so I don't need to worry. He is the best," she said with a big smile on her face and closed her diary filling the entry for the morning.
While heading out, she spotted Akari looking at her room from outside so she approached her. "Akari-nee-chan, what are you doing?"
As the sugar-sweet voice of the little girl entered her ears, she looked down seeing her small frame looking up at her. "I was just seeing how my room looked from here."
Hana peeked in the room and her eyes widened. While her room was more girlish, Akari's room was also the same but had a mature look to it. There were posters of some famous bands and many picture frames on the desk. Her bed was also looking very neat and there was a big shelf in the room. Hana walked around the room admiring the room with shining eyes.
"It looks amazing!" she said looking at Akari.
"You think so?" Akari said and Hana happily nodded.
For some reason, Akari felt this weird sisterly attraction towards Hana. Seeing her smile and admire the room was something that made her smile without her realizing it.
Both of them went downstairs and found Hotaro sitting on the couch holding his chin thinking. He had no idea what he was to do today so he was thinking about it.
"Oni-chan, what are you thinking?" Hana asked him gaining his attention.
"I was thinking about what to do today. I have no idea," he said in a serious tone. "Is there something you want to do?"
Hana placed her finger on her chin and thought about it for some time. Then a bulb formed on her head and a mischievous smile formed on her face.
"Let's see some movies today!" she declared proudly.
"If that is what you want, then sure but we have to rent the movies," he said and she tilted her head and he chuckled. "Just get ready to go out and chose the movies you want to see."
"Okay," she said and ran upstairs to get her things ready to head out.
"What about you Hajime-san?" Hotaro said making Akari face him. "Do you want to come with us or stay home?"
"I will stay here. I don't want to be seen around you in public," she said averting her face.
"I see, then please take care of the house."
Hotaro went upstairs to get his phone and wallet for the shopping trip. He looked in the mirror and set his hair a little. After that, he walked down and Hana was already ready to head out and she was also wearing the hat Hotaro gave her. Seeing her, he smiled and offered his hand which she took.
"We'll be heading out," both of them said in unison but did not get any response to that.
Hotaro did not really expect a reply anyway so he was not really affected by that. They head out and Hotaro started taking Hana to the movie store which was nearby. It was not too far so Hotaro did not mind Hana walk all the way there. She was happily skipping while walking and humming a tune the entire time. She had a big smile on her face.
The people walking by just smiled seeing the brother-sister pair going to shop. The two soon reached the movie store and Hana was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of movies there were. There were movies of every single genre, normal and even animated movies. There were even many western movies in English.
She ran around the store happily gaining a lot of attention and Hotaro ran behind her making sure she does not get lost.
'She is my sister, right? How does she have so much energy? This is so unfair and I thought genetics actually made sense,' he thought.
"Oni-chan, this one, this one," Hana said while jumping pointing at the latest movie of the same magical girl show and he nodded.
"Okay, just pick one up," he said to her.
She picked up the movie and got two more and then she went to a section many kids her age won't go. She went to the horror section.
All the movies there were for adults since they had a lot of gore and blood. Some were just inappropriate for kids so Hotaro was a bit concerned about what Hana might pick out. She went around the section and her eyes fell on a single franchise's movies. Her smile widened and she went and picked up all the three sequels of the movies. She went to show it to Hotaro and his sweat dripped down his forehead.
"Hana, I don't think we should take this," he said looking at the movie title.
It was named, "House of the dead."
It was a movie that had done well outside of Japan and it was in English. This was also referred to as a really scary movie so Hotaro was really worried about Hana. He did not want her to see this movie because he had already seen it and though he did not even flinch in the movies, he remembered Hinami would jump up in her seat every time a jump scare came. There were a lot of them in this one.
"Please," Hana said giving him the puppy dog eyes and it was super effective and Hotaro ended up agreeing to her.
'I am going to be used as a pillow tonight. I am sure of it.'
He went and rented all the movies for a day and when the person at the reception was doing this, his eyes fell on Hana eyeing the horror movies and he frowned a little. But he told himself that the movie was bought for Hotaro and the others were for Hana.
On the way back home, he bought some ready to make popcorn so that they could enjoy their time. With that, they head back home.
"We are home," they both said in unison.
"Welcome back," Hinami said.
