Chapter 9 - Chapter 8

"It's ok QuiverWing I'm over it now" he smiled (or at least it feels like he is smiling) and nuzzled into her chest. He then felt her liking the top of his head, "you do know the best way to comfort a dragon is to rest your chin on there head and that's what friendship body language is, right?". He told her.

"Nice to know" but she continued to lick his skull anyway.

"We should look for him though" Scorch suggested, QuiverWing let go of him and began to snif around. "I found the source of the sent, that way" she called out. He got on her back and she flew over the island, he saw a pure wight skeleton and directed QuiverWing to the area. She landed with a thump and Frostbite flinched at the vibrations. "So you finally showed up" his words was colder than the ice he breathed.

"Get of the chameleon dragon Scorch" he demanded. He jumped of walking towards his older brother, who was obviously disappointed in him. "I have a name" QuiverWing objected, Frostbite just ignored her. "So you abandoned your only family member to fly around with a chameleon dragon, you better not have done anything with any of them" Scorch froze at how harsh his brother was being. "Well where have you been for the last century?" Frostbite snarled.

"I was trapped in an ice burg" Scorch finally snapped. His brother narrowed his eyes.

"An ice burg ay, well I surched all the ice planes. I even surched all the ice burg grave yards I would have seen you" he growed.

"He's not lying, we were trapped in an ice burg!" QuiverWing's roar was as loud as it was when she broke free.

"Does this chameleon speak for you" Frostbite stayed calm.

"QuiverWing speaks for herself" Scorch growled.

"QuiverWing, you said you met QuiverWing as a dueviniel a century and a quarter ago pretty sure she's dead by now" Frostbite laughed.

"Wait what?" She turned her head to Scorch "we met before?" Her voice sounded confused.

"Yes but I only remembered that last night" he tried to explain himself. Scorch then heard a laugh come from his brother.

"How could you forget, Scorch talked about you like you were the best thing that happened to him." He then turned his expectation to serious "then he went back to the island one more time and never returned, I always thought that you took him captive, that you took him away from me" his expectation went from serious to hatred. "I thought that you killed him"

He hissed deeply "it was only when Queen Petle came around, I had the perfect plan" the ghostly shape of his face gave a large grining smile. "I managed to convince her that an old forgotten prophecy was about her, that a chameleon dragon will kill a Queen. She then did what I expected, she called as many of them as she could to a meeting. She promised all of them a great roll and most of them came, once they did she got the gards to shut the cave to a point that there is no escaping. She then released about a hundred bloodgrippers in there and I was there that night, I heard every single one die. I watched her hunt down and murder many of the chameleon dragons, I truly believed that a young male chameleon dragon, who was killed with my own claws, was the last but yet you stand here alive, but not for long!" He then launched himself at her. Scorch couldn't blink as he then saw the red stains of blood run through the grass, he saw a large cut across QuiverWing's neck. She roared in pain and he saw her huge thangs bit down onto Frostbites neck and Scorch heard a crunch.

"Aoug! Raa!" Frostbite was all he could make out. Scorch felt his legs give way and he fell watching his big brother and the dragon he loves fight to the death. He saw QuiverWing change at him and felt the ground shake, she hit him and he skidded across the clearing. He got to his feet immediately at flung his weight on the spikes on the side of her neck. "Raaaa! You'll die!" Scorch never imagined that sort of hospitality come from such a sweet dragon like QuiverWing. He watched them claw, bit and smash each other into the ground. Scorch knew he had to pick a side 'but who, Frostbite is the last kin I have but QuiverWing... I can't betray her she's too sweet' he then saw her pick up Frostbite with just her mouth and toss him like he is as light as a cat. Scorch saw that QuiverWing's face was covered in scratches and her neck in bite marks. QuiverWing roaed one last time and crashed Frostbites skull under her belly flop. "Kill my kind like that and this is the price!" QuiverWing growled at the dead, squashed skeleton below her as she stood on her back legs.

She was breathing deeply and smoke was rising out of her nostrils, then as if she was breathing fire out of her mouth, fire came out her nostrils. Scorch couldn't move, he felt paralysed, and just looked up at QuiverWing. "You... you killed him" he sounded petrified and he felt that way. QuiverWing's eyes went from small little slits for pouples to round, "I'm sorry" she bowed her head and slowly made her way to him. "You know he was probably the only dragon who could of told us what happened." He tried to stop his legs from shaking. Then a bright light came from Frostbites eyes and his skull looked like it was inflating, he sat up and took a deep breath then started to breathe like he just ran around the world. He touched his snout, horns and neck, he then looked at QuiverWing "You should be able to do that" he sounded more mortified then he looked.

"Well I just did" QuiverWing hissed taking one step closer, threatening him. Frostbite ran into the jungle and disappeared in seconds. "Did he just come back to life?" Scorch was more curious then scared now.

"It looks like it" QuiverWing responded in a soft voice.

"So that probably solves the mystery of how you snapped a cloud slashers tail and broke his wing" he tried to joke but QuiverWing just shrugged and went to the river at the bottom of the hill. Scorch had to run to keep up with her flying, then they both had a drink. "Do you want some fish?" Scorch asked QuiverWing when she was sitting on a bolder looking like she is deep into thought. "Hmm, yes please" she said snapping back into reality. Scorch walked into the river and sank on to the bottom and he saw salmon. He crouched and then waited for the right moment to strike. He then pounced spooking all the fish and trapped five in his jaw.

He surfaced and dropped them in a pile and went back in to catch some more, he did that three times when he was satisfied with the pile. "Here" he passed half to QuiverWing.

"Thanks" she said hoping down taking them raw. Once they finished eating she walked into the river and floated, blowing bubbles then lifted her head to breathe. "Fft that slash he did on my neck stings" she complained.

"Let me have a look" Scorch offered, she then rose out of the river and water splashed everywhere, now staind with blood. QuiverWing sat down letting him examine the cut. It looked like his brother tried to aim for the breathing tube but missed, all the other scratches looked like she walked into a thorns bush. All the bit marks looked like it barely done anything except to one on her spike, on the side of her neck. It was deep and grim, blood flowed out of it and you could see her body trying to heal it self.

For the first time since he graduated from apprenticeship he felt like he was gona throw up by the sight of it. "That bad?" QuiverWing sighed.

"Ummm I don't think cobwebs is going to stop that bleeding, you're just gona have to wait it out but for your neck I can use these leaves to patch it up" Scorch explained. He then grabbed a claw full of long and soft, but sterdy leaves and began to rest then in the slice. She winst when he did so and Scorch then got long and rubbery vines to wrap it all together. He cut them in half so the vine couldn't move around and reopen the wound and to apply pressure. "All done" he said looking at his work to make sure it's done right. "Thanks" she breathed.

"So that wasn't what I thought how you and Frostbite would meet" he mentioned.

"Like the part were he tried to kill me and told me he is the final push of my kinds extinction" QuiverWing growled low in her throat. 'She has always been so sweet and forgiving, how can a dragon like her sound like she wants another dragon dead so bad?' Scorch thought to himself tilting his head at her.
