"Oh Kavan," a woman's voice was moaning loudly inside the studio. Sabrina scowled. She has half a mind to burn this place down, human match or not! She stormed past the waiting area and pushed the door to the studio opened.
For a moment, through a haze of red, she saw legs up in the air and Kavan was also standing, which is even all the more strange. She did a double take. It appeared that Tiff Chong was doing a headstand and Kavan was standing in front of her, supporting her legs.
"Oh Kavan, the blood is gushing into my head! This is so thrilling," Tiff was gushing and moaning in her husky voice. They did not notice Sabrina at the door.
"Try to stay focus in the moment and don't talk Tiff," he was telling her, his tone neutral and calm. His voice has that huskiness to it, as if he just woke up or had a sore throat. Obviously, he was not sleeping. He must have a sore throat.
Sabrina let out a sigh of relief and quietly closed the door to the studio before they see her. She went back to the waiting area and sat on one of the chairs there. Since she is already here, she might as well wait for Kavan to finish the session with Tiff Chong. It was obvious that the horny widow had paid for extra private classes, maybe hoping she can get into Kavan's pants. Sabrina scoffed at that thought. Obviously that trick will not work. She saw how Kavan was all business-like with Tiff. She had been wrong to think that he would even look at another woman although technically they are on a break.
About 45 minutes later, she heard Tiff trying to convince Kavan to join her for tea break before his evening yoga class but Kavan politely turned her down.
"Are you sure Kav darling? Maybe I can go buy some drinks and bring it here, we can have some quiet time before the class starts," she said suggestively as she opened the studio door.
"I'm sorry Tiff, I can't, I need to clean up for the next class," he said, following her out.
Tiff gave a slight start when she saw Sabrina sitting there.
"Oh, you gave me a heart attack!" she exclaimed.
Kavan's face darkened when he saw Sabrina but he didn't say anything to her.
"I will see you same time tomorrow, Tiff," he told the other woman. He accompanied Tiff to the front door and saw her off. Then he closed the door and turned the lock.
He turned around to glare at Sabrina.
"What are you doing here Sab? I told you that it is best we break up," he said quietly. He walked over and stood before her, crossing his arms on his chest.
"I miss you Kav, I thought you only wanted a short time out," she said. She stood up to face him, placing her hands on her hips, puffing up her chest and squaring her shoulders. She will fight for their relationship, no matter what.
"I thought it over…I think we should break up for good," he said, his voice raspy. He cleared his throat a few times, went over to the water dispenser and took a cup of water to drink.
Sabrina was concerned. He sounded as if he caught the flu. That's not good considering there's this virulent flu going around.
She went to him and touched his arm. He flinched at her touch and moved away. Her heart dropped. His reaction to her was not good. He is either still mad at her or maybe he doesn't have any feelings for her at all. At least that brief skin contact revealed to her that he wasn't burning up with fever which is a good sign.
"Look, it didn't look like it will work between us, there's your clan problem and I just can't get over the fact that you are officially married to someone else, I can't be the third party," he said.
"I know, I know, you are only married on paper but still, it is a legal document and in the human world, it is legit and official regardless of what you think or say," he added.
She opened her mouth to respond but he held up his palm to stop her.
"Look, all these fake marriage, shapeshifter, dragon clans, magic powers and your propensity to lie at every turn…it is all too much for me, I just want a simple life,"
"But Kavan…"
"Sabrina, I do like you, I really do, but…I just can't deal with so much complications in my life right now," he said earnestly.
"But…"
"No, no, no buts, I just want out, I want to live my life simply, free from all these complications," he said.
"The only reason I left everything of my old life behind to become a yoga teacher in this small city on this island is to get away from other complications that I do not need,"
Her eyes widened. Come to think of it, she barely knew anything about Kavan's background. She only knows he is a yoga teacher and nothing else. She didn't even ask him about his family. The weeks they spent were blissful days of making love at every opportunity in between his yoga classes and the annoying human need to eat. Kavan barely talk about his past and his family and she didn't ask, thinking there is plenty of time to learn more about him. She preferred learning more about him in the carnal sense. In all poses.
"What do you mean Kav?" she asked. "Are you running away from someone? Something?"
He sighed and sat down on a chair across from her.
"Look, I don't want people to know but I might as well tell you," he said.
She is suddenly all ears. Is her Kavan keeping some deep dark secret? Was he part of a gang? Maybe he is on the run after some drug deal went bad in his gang? This sounds exciting and interesting. It only adds another layer of intrigue to Kavan. She likes intrigues and mysteries. She doesn't mind if he's a criminal on the run. She sure do like bad boys. She thought of Kavan's gentle nature. Nope, it didn't fit the bad boy image she had assumed.
"Don't worry, anything you tell me won't turn me off, I accept you as you are Kavan, whatever your history," she told him. Even if he was to tell her he has a host of STDs, she is not worried. Human STDs do not transfer to shapeshifters. That is why they can mate unprotected and not worry a thing.
Kavan took a deep breath, as if bracing himself to reveal some dark shocking secret.
"I had a girlfriend many years back," he started.
That sounded normal enough. Kavan is 32 years old and gorgeous to a fault with a tall, lean body that women will fall all over fore. It wouldn't make sense if he never dated.
"We were rather serious and I was in love with her. I even almost proposed to her," he said.
She could sense a 'but' coming. Obviously he didn't marry that girl.
"Then one day, her husband sent men to beat me up for sleeping with his wife,"
"What? She was married???" she exclaimed. Now, that's a plot twist right there.
He nodded ruefully.
"They broke a leg and an arm, I was on the verge of death, it took me 6 months to heal and another 6 months to train and rebuild my muscles but I can forget ever becoming a triathlete…this was why I took up yoga instead," he said.
"So, you see, this is why I am so wary around married women,"
Okay, so the broken limbs she did not know. She is such an epic failure of a dragon shapeshifter to not have detected his past injuries. Then again, she is not that in tune with the human bodies…except for the sexual kind of course.
"That's why you left your hometown and came here?" she asked.
"No, there's more," he said.
What? More? Being beaten half to death and switching from extreme sports to yoga wasn't enough? She eyed him warily.
"What more is there?"
"I am not who I say I am," he said mysteriously.
