Chapter 38 - Fixated

"How are you holding up?" Yale asked, looking at Alexis.

"Me? I am fine." He said, dismissively as I reached out for another cookie and ate it, thinking.

"It has not been long since you lost your wife. It must be hard." I said. Though, I had expected him to be more distraught than he looks.

In fact, he looks quite ok. Is that alright? If I ever lost Yale like that … I don't even know how I will react like.

Then again, I would not be too far behind if something like that happens. So … yeah, maybe I will not be as distraught as I think I will be.

"It is," Alexis said, nodding as he looked at the cups in front of us. "I still miss her every day and every night but … I can't be too sad."

Yale and I exchanged looks, "Why is that?"

"Because I have someone that she has left behind for me to take care of." He said, smiling sadly at us. "And I am honoured to be able to take care of them."
