That night, after taking care of Clark, I teleported straight to the dorms. I found Brady and Finn waiting for me in the common area looking worried. As soon as Brady saw me, he ran straight over and grabbed my shirt by the collar.
"Do you have ANY idea how worried we have been all day?" He asked in a mix of fury and compassion.
"He's right man, you have been gone for hours with no word. We thought you had been attacked by the assassin." Finn said, looking to the ground.
"Well?" Brady said in a disappointed parent sort of way "Anything to say for yourself?"
"Actually yes, I took care of the assassin along with a few other things." I said with a wicked smile, causing my friends to drop their jaws.
"YOU DID WHAT?" They both asked in simultaneous shock.
"Yep. Also I need you two to go and find the girls and bring them here so we can all have a chat, I do not care about any curfew arguments."
They both left with their jaws dragging the floor, most likely wondering whether to believe me or not.
I took the duffel bag from my inventory and sat it on the table in the living area. Opening it up, I stared with amazement at all of the beast cores I had obtained.
One could only rank up by consuming beast cores, and they did not come cheap. This was why most low level adventurers left the mandatory service after the minimum four years, the government did not waste resources on weaklings.
I wondered what rank I was now that I had evolved my ability, I hoped that I had become D rank at-least.
There was another thing eating at my thoughts; if I was at level one, then how could I reach level two?
[HOST MUST CONSUME BEAST CORES TO INCREASE LEVEL. BEAST CORES OF WEAK OR LESSER BEASTS WILL PROVIDE THE LEAST REQUIRED ENERGY TO LEVEL UP. IN CONTRAST, STRONGER BEAST CORES WILL PROVIDE MORE ENERGY FOR THE HOST TO BREAK THROUGH TO NEW LEVELS.]
[THE RANKING SYSTEM FAMILIAR TO THE HOST IS A HUMAN CONCEPT WITH NO REAL VALUE TO THE HOST ANYMORE. BEAST CORES WILL HELP YOU GAIN EXPERIENCE POINTS WHICH WILL IN TURN GRANT THE HOST MORE POWERFUL ABILITIES.]
[THE HOST IS THE ONLY HUMAN TO HAVE EVER USED THE EVOLUTION ORB PROPERLY, AS SUCH THE HOST WAS GRANTED EXTRAORDINARY GIFTS.]
[PLEASE NOTE THAT ANY ADDITIONAL HUMAN THAT ATTEMPTS TO USE THE EVOLUTION ORB WILL ONLY BE GRANTED A SMALL INCREASE IN STRENGTH AND ABILITY.]
[PLEASE SEE THE STAT SCREEN TO LEARN ABOUT USING BEAST CORES.]
Wow.
Talk about an info dump.
While I was a bit bummed out that my friends were not going to be able to experience the upgrades that I did, the fact that they could get any at all was enough for me. While I had once made up my mind not to tell my friends in order to keep a low profile, I decided to say screw that. I, along with my friends were going to tear down the rules of society together.
I decided to do as the system suggested and navigated to the screen that showed my stats. Below all of my skills was a brand new set of texts outlining how I could use beast cores in various ways.
First and foremost, there seemed to be a cap on how many attributes I could obtain per level. The cap for attributes was ten per attribute per level, meaning that Being level five, I could only have up to fifty attribute points per attribute at my current level.
However,
In addition to that, the system guided me to an entirely new function, the shop. In the shop I could trade beast cores for items, equipment, skills, and even potions. The only problem was that it seemed to be locked for now and would only unlock for an ungodly fee of 10,000 blue grade beast cores. Regardless, the shop would prove to be an invaluable asset for my future plans.
I took this brief moment of peace to try out the new hot shower that had been recently installed. The feeling of warmth enveloped my body like a warm spring kiss. It had been so long since I had felt this sensation, I almost never wanted to leave. This moment was destined to end however, as I heard the front door slam shut. Wow, these new senses of mine were really sharp.
"Dude, I hope you didn't take all the hot water!" Shouted Brady, rushing into the bathroom to check in the water.
"Jake! Where have you been all night?" Dana asked, sounding half worried and half seething in rage.
"Don't worry, I will tell you all everything, but first I need to ask you all a question."
I paused, letting Brady re-enter the room and get seated next to Valerie. They all looked at me with serious expressions, I couldn't blame them, I had been gone all night with a killer on the loose.
"If I had a strong ability, would you all follow me, no matter the consequences?" I asked with no hints of joking around.
"You mean like a party commander?" Linda asked with her hand raised for some reason.
"Yes that is exactly what I mean, maybe even a guild leader one day, or a king." I said, falling into daydreams of becoming a king.
"I need to tell you all some things that have happened over the last few hours but before I do I need you to swear your absolute loyalty to me. I plan to uproot this society one biased and corrupt scumbag at a time, and to do that I need people that I can trust. We have all been given nothing less than shit to work with ever since our abilities awakened. Wouldn't you like to show the world that you are more than some letter ranking?" I paused again, allowing my statement to sink in.
"You idiot!" Brady suddenly shouted. "I said we were all a family right? Well guess what, I would happily follow you to my death with or without awesome abilities." He finished with a wide grin.
The others all gave me similar looks which I took as agreement.
"Well in that case…."
I proceeded to tell them all about everything that had happened. From Pain and his test to the revelation of Clark being the killer. I left no details out except for the system, I wanted to keep that to myself for now.
"WOAH!" Valerie shouted as I finished explaining.
"You have be-become that strong?" Dana asked.
"Yes, and if you want similar strength, I can provide it to you." I said, pulling out the evolution orb.
"Now before we begin, the process may be painful. I do not know what exactly will happen to you since I'm assuming the changes are different for everyone." I said.
"Sign me up for some pain as long as I can get stronger!" Brady said as he walked over and placed his palm on the orb.
At first nothing happened, he just looked around with an expectant look on his face.
"Hey man are you just messing with m- AGHHHHH!" He was cut off by his own screaming.
He thrashed around for a few seconds before falling to the ground, he twitched and moaned for awhile before finally relaxing. Suddenly, we watched as his muscles became thicker and his skin began to let off a white glow. The glow slowly became more intense before reaching a blinding climax and dimming back into nothingness. Brady laid on the ground in a pool of sweat for a long time before he got up again.
None of us knew what to expect.
"Are you okay Brady?" Valerie asked as she approached him.
He nodded and then turned to look at me with a stunned expression.
"Holy crap…this is incredible."
