Meanwhile, Felix and Chief William sat in the infirmary and waited for the nurse to examine the boy.
"I remember we used to sit here often," Felix said.
"Yes... I remember how we broke each other's noses, and then came here to somehow bring us back to normal," Chief William remembered.
"Come in," said the nurse and opened the curtain.
"How is he? What happened to him?" Felix asked.
"All is well for now," the nurse replied. "The only thing I would advise is that he lay here for a couple of days. His body experienced a wild shock. The fact is that he stopped his own heart."
"What?" Chief William was surprised. "Why?"
"Because someone tried to kill me," Rosen replied. "And I figured that the only way not to die at the hands of another person would be to stop my heart for a while. Thanks to my ability, stopping, I could do such a thing."
"Well done," Felix said and put his hand on the guy's shoulder. "Not everyone would be able to quickly figure out what to do in such a dangerous and difficult situation. Have you stopped your heart before?" Felix asked.
"No, never," Rosen replied.
"Then, you are well done twice," said Chief William. "Would you mind if I ask you a few more questions? It's just that we definitely want to find the culprit of what happened, and in no case do we want the killer to walk around our academy."
"Yes, everything is fine. Ask as many questions as you need," Rosen replied.
"Then, you can tell us in detail how it all started. Do you remember your ... let's call him a killer ... Do you remember your killer? How did you meet? When?"
"I don't have a very good memory for people's faces, but I think that if I see him at least once, I will definitely be able to recognize him."
"Got it," Chief William said. "Can you describe him somehow? What did he look like? Maybe he had some distinctive features?"
"He was an ordinary dark-haired guy with short hair. I can't say exactly how he was different. Unless his eyes were constantly shifting. Here and there. Here and there."
"How and where did you meet?"
"I was standing in the lobby when you announced the third test. A guy walked up the hall and asked everyone if they knew Zen."
"Zen? Go on," said Chief William.
"Yes. My friends often call me Zen because it is a short name for "Rosen". And I thought he was looking for me. He looked me up and down and told me to follow him to the toilet."
"To the toilet? What for?" Felix asked.
"This guy said that Aram wanted to talk to me. And the fact that he is in the toilet, and we can go to meet him."
"Do you know Aram?" Chief William asked.
"No. I was simply told that he wanted to talk to me about our two-on-two fights, and I agreed. When we went up to the third floor and went to the toilet, I realized that there was no one there. I turned to this guy to ask where Aram was, but he straightened his hand forward, and I began to feel that the air around me.. it was.. how can I say it correctly.. it was being destroyed. I could not breathe and so for several seconds until I thought to stop my heart. I don't remember what happened next. I only remember opening my eyes, and on top, a dark-haired girl was covering my nose with two fingers. She most likely wanted to give me artificial respiration, but I scared her, as I opened my eyes too abruptly."
"I see," said Chief William. "Listen, someone wanted to kill you and disguise this murder as our exam. They dragged you into one of the rooms where there was a hologram of a corpse and somehow they put you in this hologram. And who knows what would happen to you if the guys hadn't accidentally found you and did first aid."
"Are you scared?" Felix asked.
Rosen dropped his head. And then he raised his hand to his face.
"After my father's death, I no longer believe in anyone," he said with a hiccup. "I do not know where to go, I am afraid that I will be killed. And this case, it made it even worse. I ... you won't understand ... When I started to choke, I started having a terrible hysteria. My brain began to work at the speed of light, every millisecond I tried to come up with a new solution to save myself from this situation. But I'm so weak. I ... I ... I'm afraid to die. I don't want to die so early and pointless," he said breathlessly.
"You might think we don't care, and we don't understand you," Felix said in a low voice," but William and I are here to protect you. And we will definitely do so. As long as we are alive, nothing will happen to you. Understood?"
Rosen said nothing.
"You better get some rest," Chief William said. "We'll go and find this guy. For sure. I swear to you, we'll figure this out, so don't worry."
"If something happens, you can contact me at any time of the day or night," said Felix.
"Thank you," Rosen said quietly and went back to bed.
"Janet, look after him, okay?" Felix turned to the nurse.
"Of course, Felix. As you say," the nurse replied.
Rosen tossed the covers over himself and turned on his side against the wall. There were many thoughts in his head. Most of them were negative.
"Dad…." he thought. "Why did you die? Why did you leave us alone? Who killed you? Why did they come after me?" Rosen asked himself questions. "Why is all this happening to me," he said and sobbed at the same moment. "How lonely I am. I'm so scared…"
Rosen started crying.
