Chapter 29 - Chapter 29

I sent out a message to the group reminding them to meet at the company in exactly 45 minutes, that they had their meeting with Howie. I pushed my hands over my skirt and looked up as Kris stood at my door.

"You look sexy Resa."

"It's not as tight."

"You have lost weight. But you haven't really had much to eat, you know." She walked in and over to me. "Are you going to be okay?"

"I don't have a choice, do I? This is my connection, this is my group, and you are busy. I'm not even sure Howie knew it was me, or he just said yes to working with someone."

"You really buy that?"

"Only because I have not heard one word from him. So, yeah, it was automatic."

"I don't know what happened with him, but he sure doesn't seem like the type to ignore you for just any reason. But I saw the pictures you shared with us and he sure seemed pretty happy. And that last one he sure as hell didn't seem like he wanted to let you go."

"Maybe it all was fake? Maybe he wasn't any different than the other jackasses who pretty on the poor hears." Kris tilted her head and I laughed, knowing her too well. "What?"

"When everything happened with Mike, you were hurt, sure, but you were pissed, not overly broken hearted. And I'm almost positive that he would have picked up on that.

"And this," she said, waving her hand at me from the sad eyes to the thinning waist, "this is broken hearted. You were not like this with Mike." I looked at her and then at myself in the mirror and nodded, picking up on the message she was saying without saying it.

"If I can swing a moment alone to talk to him, I will, okay?"

"All I can ask for. Now, go kill it." I shook my head and grabbed my purse.

20 minutes later, I pulled up to the company and slowly took my glassed off as I eyed the building; it was huge! I understood this was also his office, but damn, it was still bigger than I expected. I let out a breath and walked in, smiling at the receptionist as I walked over.

"Hello, how may I help you?"

"I have a 1:30 appointment with Mr. Dorough. I'm Theresa, from…" she waved the rest of it off.

"He is coming back from lunch and running a few minutes late, traffic. You can look around while you wait."

"Thank you, I'm waiting for the band anyway." She smiled and I turned, walking down the hallway. I checked my phone as it beeped and saw the messages from both Alex and Ash about wishing me luck and to kick his ass. Such good friends to worry about me.

Honestly, no matter what happened today, I had to be professional. Howie was such a big name in the scene, I bout those would be the only groups I worked with that would ask to contact him. Not that I ever thought I would be reaching out to him. I had gone how long without having to work with him and now, of course, when I'm trying to ease my heart, does the universe pair us together again.

I glanced over the walls as I walked, slowly taking in the awards, the plaques, the 'thank you' notes and various pictures with celebrities that he had up. A few awards my ass! He had more than I even thought. Which means that he was a bigger name then I even knew, and that made me all the more intimated.

His brand of fame outshined mine and if his ex's dumped him, someone like this, for someone "higher" up, they were utterly crazy. Up could only be a damn start themselves. Hell, how could I compete with women who were amazingly gorgeous? Or at least had to be.

I looked at the doors and noticed the recording studios on this side and walked back down the other hallway. The other studios were here, along with more pictures and awards. And the final door on the right was an office, guessing his. The way this layout was, was unique. And one could tell, those how had been in this business, that this was a designed building, not one that was bought. Fuck, did I know anything about this man? Not that he lied to me, because he didn't, but all of this was not something I'd expect.

I heard the front door open and made my way back to the waiting area, assuming it was the group, although they were going to get an ass chewing; I did not tolerate being late, and everyone that worked with me, knew that. However, when I saw the couple walk through the door hand in hand, I came up short.

Howie took his shades off and I could do nothing but stare at him; oh, and the blonde bimbo that was currently on his arm. Guess he couldn't stop the charms from his ex there. Oh, I knew damn good and well who the bitch was, after all, Google was nice in posting pictures of them. What the fuck I couldn't understand is why they were holding hands or why she was kissing his cheek as she was leaving.
