Chapter 16 - Chapter 15

Using its wings, it generated blades of wind aimed at a familiar spot. The earlier attack with my infused sword left a shallow, yet continuously whitening wound on the giant snake's body. As if the Griffin knew of that weak spot, it continuously landed a barrage of wind blades on that wound.

The irritated snake, however, retaliated as it attempts to chomp down the Griffin flying in the air. But the Griffin let out a powerful screech, powerful enough to shatter eardrums and sway the trees, which caught the giant snake off guard as it let out an agonizing hiss, which was feeble in comparison to the Griffin's screech.

The giant snake looked like it was in a daze and the Griffin looked like it was showing off its dominance when a sudden voice echoed through my head.

"Hmph. Still standing strong are you?" It was an unfamiliar voice, yet it wasn't a sound as it simply came inside my head. The only beings I can see besides the unconscious Kayla and me are the Griffin and the giant snake. Since I haven't heard anything from the snake since earlier, then that could only mean that it came from the Griffin.

"Hey, can you also hear me?" I asked mentally. The current problem is that dangerous snake, but if this Griffin is also hostile, then even if it manages to fight off that snake, we still would be in danger.

The Griffin high above the sky glanced at me before returning its attention to the giant snake. "Oh? Are you still alive there? Interesting." The Griffin said as it circled its way around the back of the Giant snake. Using its sharp front claws, it slashed the back, just below the heads of the giant snake.

"Too shallow! I need stronger firepower here, can you help human?" The Griffin asked.

Listening to the tone of the Griffin, it didn't look like it was hostile. This means that helping it fight against the giant snake would not be a problem. However-

"I would do so if I could," raising my arms. They were pulsating and frozen white to the point I can't even feel them. I need to cool down, or rather warm down to help.

"Hmm... I see. If that's the case, then why don't you just use your fire again?" The Griffin said casually. I mean, I would have done so if I could, but my magic isn't fire, it's ice. That statement, however, implied another thing. That would be the fact that this bird-head cat was just idling around while I was fighting that giant snake!

"H-hey... Have you been watching me this whole time?" I asked whilst trying to sound calm.

"Yeah. What about it?" As if stating the obvious, the bird-head nonchalantly replied. 'Oh damn, I want to skin this thing.' Putting my thoughts in order, I replied to his original question. "My 'fire' isn't fire. It's just fiery ice. And I'll have you know I didn't appreciate you just idling around when I was at my wits end against that thing."

"Tsk. I'll have you know I was resting so I can fight this abomination again. That way, we can ensure its end!" The Griffin shot back in a bossy tone. I didn't expect a reply from it which caught me speechless. "Well whatever, you can still use it yeah? your magic I mean."

"W-well I can but-" it would be strenuous for my body. But before I could finish saying that, the Griffin cut me off.

"Good. I'll create an opening," the Griffin said, "use that chance to turn this worm into popsicles." With that, the Griffin flew high above the sky. As if it was walking in the air, the space beneath its feet rippled as its body shone in a brilliant glow of purple.

In the next instant, the Griffin's wings grew exponentially larger as if they were stratus clouds covering the calm giant blue sun. With that, the feathers on the Griffin's wings pulsated before detaching themselves.

"..." Although I heard nothing, it was as if the Griffin had something to say. However, that thought was cut short as the Griffin's feathers, about the size of surfboards, came raining down from the sky. Watching the event happening before me, I couldn't help but ask myself if this powerhouse of a beast still needed my help.

"HISSHAAAA!" The giant snake released a powerful battle cry as all its scales began opening up. I prepared myself for the release of corrosive gasses, but the snake's scale was simply stacking to form something like heavy armor.

The giant feathers came crashing down like a meteor shower, propelling the fallen purple leaves upwards and creating a cloud of dust. The griffin landed roughly before tucking in its wings,

"Freeze it!"

With that signal, I ran through the smoke and falling leaves towards the giant snake. Assessing the Giant snake, most of its scales were scraped out, its wings ripped like curtains, and a giant feather was stuck in one of the middle head's eyes, pinning it on the ground. While the other head in the left started hissing in agony as if it was dying.

With no time to waste, I observed the snake while running thinking of how to end this thing once and for all. My earlier flamethrower was able to freeze its exterior, but this thing just shed that exterior and popped the blood vessels inside its mouth.

This means that attacking externally is a no-go. Its moves are restricted, but that wouldn't last long as its scales started regenerating, except one part--

The place where I earlier slashed, where my sword shattered. Although shallow, the Griffin's feather seemed to have made the wound deep enough that it even excavated the whitening part.

Since I can't properly use my hands, I extended my whole arm forward as I ran towards that wound, as if I was chasing someone. My hand turned ablaze in a chilly blue as it touched the organs inside of the snake. The giant snake ignited in blue flames, freezing all its exteriors and interiors at an alarming rate.

The Giant snake must have felt this as it screams in agony, wiggling its massive body like some sort of worm, jerking me a few feet away. It was freezing fast, but because of its massive size, it looked like the process was rather slow.

The giant snake's eye found me, and without a sense of hesitation, attempted to chomp me down. Its mouth opened wide revealing the ruptured blood vessels and four large, sharp fangs. But it was too late as the blue flames reached its head, not even freezing it, just turning the entirety of the beast into snow-white ice.

"Huff... Huff... Is-is it.. over?" I asked, awaiting a response from the Griffin which never came. I looked back to see the Griffin, resting itself in a pile of leaves as if it was a worker on a day off.

The adrenaline finally left my body as a smile gradually appeared on my face. The feeling of having accomplished a feat like this, of course, there's no way I wouldn't be able to.

"Ha..ha..haha hahaha!" My laugh echoed in the entire forest. This! This feeling right here and now was something I can call my own. The sense of accomplishment and euphoria from doing something I worked hard for, something I desired to do.

It was as if I was in a blissful trance as my feelings contrast to my body's state, and before I realized it, my body gave up as my eyes failed to stay open, collapsing on the sea of leaves.
