Chapter 63 - Geshundfight

(Open POV)

Townsville...

There is the city skyline under a clear sky.

"The city of Townsville." The narrator said.

Jail...

Prisoners are at the windows.

"A place filled with some of the most brilliant, clever, and ingenious criminal masterminds ever to hatch an evil scheme." The narrator said.

Townsville...

On the street, the Amoeba Boys, the three overgrown microbes, stand in front of an orange vendor's display and eye it nervously. The man is not particularly alarmed at their presence.

"Then there's the Amoeba Boys." The narrator said.

Slim looks back and forth between the vendor, the oranges, and Bossman and Junior. After a long moment of strained silence, he reaches toward the oranges as if to grab one and the three dart into an alley. They look back at the aftermath of their caper.

"We did it! We're official criminals!" Bossman said, laughing.

"Yeah, criminals!" Junior said, excitedly.

"Yeah!" Slim said, laughing.

"So come on. Let's see it." Bossman said, happily.

"Yeah, let's see it." Junior said, smiling.

"Duh...see it?" Slim asked.

"Yeah, the orange. Let's see the orange." Bossman said.

"Yeah, the orange." Junior said.

"Oh, that." Slim said, sadly.

"Yes, that. The orange? The fruit that you stole just now? Let's see it!" Bossman said, excitedly.

"What do you want to see that for?" Slim asked, laughing nervously.

"Produce the produce!"

"Uh..." Slim said, cowering as Bossman berates him.

"You didn't take it, did you?"

"He didn't take it, Boss!" Junior said, angrily.

"I was going to, but...that would be stealing." Slim said, shrugging.

Bossman begins to shake with anger and finally screams. Junior backs out of the way as he advances on Slim. As he yells, the latter backs down until he is only a puddle of cytoplasm.

"That's it! I spend months planning that orange heist, and you go and choke at the last minute. Don't you have any backbone, you..." Bossman said, while the eyes of all three pop open in surprise as a variation on the girls' theme plays. "Listen! Ooh, that can only mean one thing." Up in the sky as the girls are in flight, while the Boys are still on the street. "Now's our chance to get in real trouble!" He calls into the sky. "Hey, Powerpuff Girls!"

There are the shadows of the Powerpuff Girls descending along the side of the building the Boys are standing in front of. The girls land, ready for action, on a street.

"What?" Blossom asked.

There is a piece of paper on the sidewalk in front of Bossman. He stammers nervously for a few seconds, then spots this. His face lights up.

"Aha! Check it out." Bossman said, smirking.

The paper is picked up and held aloft by Bossman, then dropped. It flutters to the ground at Blossom's feet. Blossom looked down at the scrap, then the paper flew at her. She is completely bewildered. The Boys are looking as menacing as they can.

"Littering!" Bossman yelled.

The trios face off.

"Sorry, guys. Jared was right with this being a waste of time. You're gonna have to do better than that." Blossom said, looking at her sisters. "Come on, girls. Let's go."

"No! Wait! So you wanna see a crime, huh?" Bossman asked.

"Huh?"

"A real crime?"

"Yeah. Sure. Okay." Blossom said, happily.

"Sounds fun!" Bubbles cheered.

"Oh, brother." Buttercup said, scoffing.

"Come on, then!" Bossman said, excitedly.

Townsville Park...

"Townsville Park." The narrator said, as families and kids are enjoying themselves. "A clean place for clean folks to have good clean fun."

At a trash can, a piece of paper resting on top of the garbage inside. This is picked up and held aloft by Bossman, then dropped. It also lands at Blossom's feet. Blossom's face has bewilderment written all over it again. The Boys are trying to look menacing.

"Littering!" Bossman yelled.

The girls look a trifle impatient.

"Oh, brother." Blossom said, rolling her eyes. "Jared was right when he said the Amoeba Boys aren't a threat today. Look, guys. We've gotta go."

"No!" Bossman said, and the girls take off. "Wait! Come back! Don't go!"

"Yeah! Don't go!" Junior said, angrily.

The Boys hang their 'heads' and slither slowly across the park. Bossman runs flat into a sign; the other two collide with him from behind.

"Don't move, you mugs. This could be it. The crime of the century!" Bossman said, excitedly.

The sign reads 'Keep Off the Grass'. The three smirking Amoeba Boys are standing next to it. The sky fades into a rainstorm, then towards night. They have fallen asleep, the rain continuing. After a few seconds, their normal blue-green color fades to white with gray spots. When the rain stops and morning comes, they look quite sickly; they sound the same when they speak next. Slim snores with his eyes open. He sneezes violently, waking the others as well.

"Are we in jail yet?" Slim asked.

"Shut up, stupid!" Bossman said, starting to leave.

"Yeah, shut up." Junior said, while he and Slim followed, coughing.

Townsville...

The Amoeba Boys slither along the sidewalk, slumped over.

"Hey, Boss, I don't feel so good." Slim said, sneezing again.

And the second time, bits of green snot fly out. The Boys stopped by an apple cart. Fumes rise from them.

"Gesundheit!" Bossman yelled.

"Yeah, gesundheit." Junior said.

At the vendor - the same fellow who was selling oranges before. When he gets a whiff of the fumes, he too becomes pale, with gray spots all over his skin. He shivers and sneezes over the apples, spreading the germs to them. A man walks past and picks one up; he bites into it and becomes sick as well.

There is a bus stop with a crowd of people; he walks past in front of them and sneezes. A bus pulls up, hiding the group from view. When it rolls away, they are gone. At another corner as the bus rolls to a stop; the driver has picked up the bug. After it pulls out, the crowd are sick as well. They sneeze in various directions.

At the intersection as sick people cross the streets, coughing and sneezing. An ice cream truck stops to let them pass, its driver becoming ill almost as soon as they reach him. The ice cream truck rolls through the city until it passes out of sight behind the corner of a building. One window has the sound of telephones ringing.

Mayor's office...

At the desk as the Mayor speaks, phones ring off the hook all around him; he has receivers in both hands.

"Hello? He-What?...You can't come in?... You're sick?" The mayor asked, hanging up one phone, talking to others. "What? Hello?... You're sick too, you can't come in..." He is hanging up that phone, picking up first. "Hello? Hello...You're sick?" The mayor is shoving both phones off the desk. "Sick! Sick! Everyone's sick!" He looked over at Ms. Bellum. "Oh! Ms. Bellum. Thank goodness you're here."

Ms. Bellum steps into the room, her legs are very pale and covered with spots.

"The whole town is sick. You've got to do some..." The mayor said, while Ms. Bellum sneezes and collapses to the floor. Her head is cut off by the hotline. "Oh, no." He sneezes and becomes pale. "Oh, now I've got it too." The hotline hides Ms. Bellum's face. "There's only one thing to do."

Pokey Oaks Kindergarten...

The hotline begins to buzz. Blossom jumps up from her seat.

"I'll get it!" Blossom said, zipping over with enough force to blow papers off the desk and picks up. "Yes, Mayor? What's the trouble?" Indistinct talking on the other end. "Huh? You're sick...? Well, that's too bad, Mr. Mayor, but it doesn't sound like an emergency. Now, tell everyone to get lots of rest and drink plenty of liquids. And only call when there's a real emergency. Remember...the hotline is not a toy."

Blossom hangs up and flies back to her seat, again scattering papers around. She smiles proudly while her sisters shoot angry glances at her. The tinkling of bells from outside - an ice cream truck - catches everybody's attention. At the classroom door, the teacher squashes herself against the frame to protect herself as a herd of excited kids thunders past.

"ICE CREAM!" The kids said, excitedly.

In the schoolyard, they wave and cheer as the truck approaches. Its driver is the same poor fellow who got sick at the intersection earlier. He sneezes and passes out at the wheel, his eyes turning into Xs as if he was dead; the screen explodes into stars. When it clears, the teacher and her students are seen, looking on in surprise at the now-wrecked truck. On the ground, the girls stand at the front of the crowd; the driver tumbles out at their feet. He sneezes, splattering them with green snot.

"Ewwwwww!" The girls said, disgusted.

"Maybe the Mayor wasn't kidding. Let's go!" Blossom yelled.

The girls take off.

The kids climb eagerly all over the truck.

Townsville...

The girls are in flight.

"Uh-oh. Look!" Buttercup said, worried.

The girls are looking at a street where people are sprawled out everywhere, and wrecked cars dot the sidewalks.

"Everybody's sleeping!" Bubbles said, terrified.

"No, Bubbles. There's been an outbreak of some terrible disease." Blossom said, looking down at the street, where the impact of the epidemic is seen more clearly, as she and her sisters are in the thick of it. "We've gotta help these people! Let's move!"

The girls take off.

Blossom pulls a man out of the street. The Boys are behind her.

"Hey, Blossom..." Bossman said, coughing. "...come watch us do a crime."

Bossman sneezes.

"Not now, guys!" Blossom said, angrily.

Bubbles is studying a car with a person trapped beneath it. Bossman approaches from behind.

"Uh, Bubbles..." Bossman said, as Bubbles lifts the car. "...come watch us do a..." He sneezes. "...crime."

Bubbles drops the car and turns to face Bossman and Slim and Junior with him.

"Sorry, guys. I gotta go save people and stuff." Bubbles said, and they left with the blonde turning back to the car. "Oops."

Buttercup, meanwhile, is checking a man's pulse. The Boys come up behind her.

"Hey, Buttercup..." Bossman said.

"Buzz off, guys!" Buttercup yelled.

Now Blossom carries a group of sick people through the street. She is brought up short by the Boys popping up in front of her.

"Okay, we got a crime. Watch!" Bossman said, coughing.

"Cut it out, guys!" Blossom said, flying past the Amoeba boys. "Not now!"

Now the Amoeba Boys come up behind Buttercup, who looks rather fed up.

"How 'bout now?" Bossman asked.

The Amoeba Boys appear behind a similarly miffed Bubbles.

"Hey, come on. Now?" Bossman asked.

The Powerpuff Girls look at each of the Amoeba Boys as they speak.

"Now?" Junior asked.

"Now?" Slim asked.

"Now?"

"Now?" Bossman asked.

"Now?" Slim asked.

"Now?" Junior asked.

"Now?" Bossman asked.

All three are behind Buttercup.

"Now?" Slim asked.

"Will you guys SHUT UP?!" Buttercup exclaimed, losing her temper, and she rounds on the Amoeba Boys, yelling at full force. The Amoeba Boys cower before the fury of her outburst, finally squashing themselves together into a single puddle on the sidewalk. "YOU THREE ARE THE LOUSIEST, MOST PATHETIC CRIMINALS EVER TO WALK THE STREET! YOU STINK! We don't ever want to see you again! Get out of town! Don't ever come back!" She points and the puddle starts to ooze in that direction. "GET OUT! GET OUT!! GET OUT!"

The puddle zips away. Blossom and Bubbles fly up behind Buttercup.

"Buttercup!" Blossom and Bubbles said, shocked.

"Well, uh...they made me mad." Buttercup said, coughing, sickly. "And they got me sick, too."

"Yeah, I think I caught it too." Blossom said, coughing, sickly.

"Me too." Bubbles said, sickly.

Bubbles and Blossom sneeze.

"We'd better go see the Professor and Jared." Blossom said.

The girls take off.

"Hurry, girls! Hurry!" The narrator said, sickly, and he coughs.

(Jared's POV)

Utonium Residence...

The Professor is in his lab, his back to the girls. They crash in and land behind him; now they look and sound as bad as everybody else.

"Professor...Jared..." Blossom said, coughing. "Professor, Jared, the whole town is..."

The Professor turns around; he too has caught it.

"Sick. We know. The Professor is already working on what caused it." I said, happily. "I'm not sick because of being exposed to background radiation by traveling in the TARDIS. The artron energy altered and enhanced my antibodies, making them better at fighting diseases. This disease is one of them."

The girls and I are following the Professor behind the lab.

"I've managed to isolate the virus, but it doesn't conform to any virus ever documented. I believe it's a new strain." The Professor said, as we stopped at a microscope. "Have a look."

Blossom leans down to peer into the eyepiece. Through the microscope, there are many small copies of Bossman. They laugh evilly.

Blossom looks up from the eyepiece, "Professor, Jared, those look just like the Amoeba Boys."

"The Amoeba Boys?" The Professor asked, sniffling. "Hmm. I wonder if now this is only a hunch, but suppose the Amoeba Boys..." I thought about the Boys standing next to the 'Keep Off the Grass' sign. "...were standing in the park next to a 'Keep Off the Grass...'" He is coughing. "...sign, in an attempt to break the law..." The sky darkens and the rain begins. "...when a storm rolled in. Now suppose they stood in the rain all night and caught a..." The Professor coughs; the rain stops and the sun comes up. "...cold." The Amoeba Boys become ill. "That cold could mix with their single-cell anatomy to create a devastating new virus..." Slim sneezes. "...that could then infect all of Townsville."

"Except me due to being a time traveler." I said, looking at the Professor.

"Of course, that's only a hunch." The Professor said, leaning over girls. "Girls! You must find the Amoeba Boys. The antidote is within them!" He is coughing and sniffling. "Do you know where they are?"

"Yes! Buttercup kicked them out of town. And...they left. So...no." Bubbles said, as she was saying this, Buttercup recovers enough to scowl angrily and cross her arms, knowing this is all her fault at possibly leaving Townsville sick permanently without the antidote thanks to her snapping at the Amoeba Boys and yelling at them to leave town for good.

"We'll find the Amoeba Boys, Professor." Blossom said, looking at her sisters. "Come on!"

They crash out through the ceiling.

(Open POV)

Townsville...

The girls are slowly floating through the city.

"And so the Powerpuff Girls began to search for the hosts..." The narrator said, coughing. "...of one of the most deadly viruses ever to befall mankind."

As the narrator says this, Blossom picks up a fruit stand to check under it, Buttercup looks under a trash can in the park, Bubbles flies under an elevated rail track, and Buttercup does likewise.

The girls are in flight as the Boys on their way out of town. The Amoeba Boys have bundles slung on sticks over their 'shoulders' and are coughing like mad. The girls are faring no better. The Powerpuff Girls are now shivering and can barely keep themselves aloft. Finally, they seize up and tumble out of the sky, crashing down. The girls are lying in craters in the pavement.

"Hey...hey...wake up." Bossman said, his voice echoing and Blossom opens her eyes, looking up at the Boys; the echoing stops. "Are youse okay?"

"Yeah. Are youse okay?" Junior asked.

At the road, the girls climb partway out of their craters. They look very weak; Blossom sounds likewise.

"Uh...? The Amoeba Boys? Oh, you gotta come back with us right away." Blossom said, happily.

"But I thought we were lousy criminals and you never wanted to see us again." Bossman said, sadly.

"No! That's not true! You three could be the worst criminals in the history of Townsville."

"Aw, you're just saying that."

"No, really." Blossom said, coughing. "We've gotta take you back right away and lock you up."

"Really?" Bossman asked, brightening.

"Come on. We gotta go." Blossom said, smiling.

"Wait a minute!" Bossman said, in a tougher tone. "Why should I, copper?" He laughs to Slim and Junior, then turns back to Blossom. "You're not taking us without a fight!"

"Yeah! Without a fight!" Junior yelled.

"Oh, come on, guys. We're sick and tired, and...we wanna go home." Blossom said, annoyed.

"Oh, please?" Bossman asked.

"Yeah, please?" Junior asked.

"All right. If we do this, then...will you come home?" Blossom asked, letting out a sigh.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. We promise." The Amoeba Boys said, at the same time.

"All right. Let's...get 'em, girls." Blossom said, frowning.

Blossom floats wearily up to a grinning Bossman and directs a weak backhand toward him. It comes nowhere close to actually connecting. Next, she touches him lightly.

"Yow!" Bossman said, throwing himself backward and splatters on the ground.

Bubbles approaches Slim, also smiling, and hauls off to throw a punch. Before she can deliver the blow, she sneezes on him; he reacts as if struck. Buttercup, meanwhile, is curled up on the pavement and taking a nap while Junior looks at her. She opens her eyes and looks back at him, and he hurls himself down in slow motion - she has literally won a fight just by looking funny at her enemy.

(Jared's POV)

Outside the Utonium Residence...

"Everyone looks well there." I said, standing outside and looking at the people lined up around the block. "They're getting the antidote."

I made myself intangible and lowered myself down into the lab.

Utonium Residence...

Three very satisfied Boys are in the lab, confined to a green chamber labeled 'QUARANTINE'. The Professor reaches in and pokes Bossman with a syringe.

"Ow!" Bossman said, angrily.

"Yeah, ow!" Junior yelled.

I made myself visible and looked at the Professor, the girls, the Mayor, and Ms. Bellum.

"Here's the antidote." The Professor said, happily.

"Great." The Powerpuff Girls said, at the same time.

At the side of the house, sick people march in through the front door, healthy ones out the side near the garage. In the lab, the Professor holds the door of the quarantine chamber open.

"All's well that ends well." I said, and the Professor and the girls, floating nearby, have completely recovered. "This reminds me of New Earth."

"You mean the planet in the future with artificially grown humans that had different diseases." Buttercup said, her eyes widening.

The Boys, though also back to normal, look more than a little shocked at the offer of freedom.

"The very same." I said, smirking. "But thank goodness I didn't have to run around a hospital this time around to make the cure."

"Okay, Amoeba Boys. Thank you for your cooperation. You're free to go." The Professor said, looking at the Amoeba Boys.

"Go?! I thought we were criminals! You locked us up and everything!" Bossman said, worried.

"Well, everything's all right now." The Professor said, while the Amoeba Boys pass him. "Out you go."

Utonium Residence...

Outside the open front door, the Boys are on the sidewalk, the Professor just inside.

"Bye now." The Professor said, slamming the door quickly.

(Open POV)

Outside Utonium Residence...

Long silence.

"I told you, you should have taken the orange!" Bossman yelled, looking at Slim.

The Narrator imitates the old-time 'wah-wah' horn sound effect as if to say, 'Too bad'.

"Oh, Amoeba Boys. You're so dumb. But we love you anyway, because..." The narrator said, healthy, laughing.

The standard end shot comes up.

"...once again the day is saved thanks to the Powerpuff Girls! Ah-choo! Excuse me." The narrator said.
