Chapter 6 - Mother, Cub, and the Truth

I walk back into the living room and there I see a child, probably the same wolf-child, sitting down on the couch coloring book in hand. She looks up at me and with a sweet heart-warming voice she speaks. "Hi there mister. You look new here. My name is Vix, what's your name?"

With a smile a nod to here and speak in a calm voice. "My name is Daniel, that's a nice name Vix."

She smiles back but then soon a woman who was in human form comes from the kitchen and hands a plate of meat to Vix. Vix starts to eat in a messy manner and the woman tells Vix to calm down. She then looks at me with a stern look before speaking.

"What do you want."

"Nothing much but to get to know you."

"Sorry but I don't wanna know you. your a hunter regardless, and a wealthy one too. Last thing I need is for my daughter to be on the run or worse." With that she walks away. The daughter tugs at my shirt and speaks. "Don't worry about her, she's just mad because my daddy was an asshole, in her own words not mine."

"Oh, who was your daddy?"

"I don't know, but whenever a man with a suit comes on T.V. mommy just huffs and changes the channel."

"She probably just doesn't like politics dear."

She just looks at me confused but carries on the conversation. "What are doing here anyways Mr. Daniel?"

"I have no clue either, I was going to look for John, you know the old wolf, but then I ran into you."

"I'm not that stupid I know who John is, he's probably upstairs in his big huge library. Here I'll take you too him." She grabs my hand and up the stairs we go. As we get upstairs there is another living room where Julian is in. Wearing headphones while laying on the couch he waves at me and Vix who also waves back and hugs him. Vix points to two doors and looks at me.

"That's where the library is, John should be in there reading."

"Ok, thank you Vix"

"Vix, honey where are you sweetie. Come on you didn't finish eating."

"Coming mommy." She runs off back downstairs. I walk inside the library and shut the doors. Inside there was shelves upon shelves of books old and maybe new. I walked around thinking "have I found Heaven." A big smile came on my face seeing how many books that were there when I bumped into something almost knocking it over. I catch it and sigh a relief hoping that no one noticed me. As I put it back I turn to my left to see that John had in fact saw me almost drop the vase I chuckle before standing up straight to greet him.

"Hello John, sorry about that I, well I was just-"

"Looking around? I can see. Fascinating isn't it?"

"Yeah, feels like you have every book written."

"Well it does feel like that. So what brings you in here human friend?"

"A lot, I have many questions."

"Well then ask away." He sits down on a chair and I sit across from him. I didn't see it till now but John is in his human form. Nicely dressed, combed light gray hair, light gray trimmed beard, and looks that would kill a man but love to a woman's heart. He takes a sip of a red liquid from his cup that looks more of a grail. Once he's done he looks at me with a stern yet concerning look.

"I'm enjoying my stay here but I have so many questions to ask. The most obvious one being as to why you invited me here? Why didn't you kill me on the spot? I have talked to the others and it seems that every human that has entered your woods you either kill or chase away. Why me, why spare me?"

John, without a word gets up, straightens himself and his tie, looks at me as if he's asking me to follow him then walks to a door that's connected to the library. He opens the door and revels a bedroom. I get up and follow him. In this room it feels Victorian era maybe older. A red carpet, a bed big enough for 3 people maybe more. On that bed was a man, maybe around 34 or older. He was asleep. John comes up behind me and whispers "This is why, this man right here. His name is Mat Ryan. He's a Bloodvine but cursed with something far too great for our mystic to deal with. That curse is his endless sleep, he rarely wakes up and when he does its for a short while. I understand that the Harris family aren't mystics or magical humans but I do know that you have a history with Bloodvines. Can you please help him, for he is all I have left, other than my son of course but you know what I mean."

"I don't know. Bloodvines aren't my thing that whole line of werewolves are my sisters thing. I mean I can try but I have no guarantee that anything I do will work. What if I fail what are you gonna do with me then?"

"Nothing more, I am keeping my promise not to let the others or me harm you in a way even if you don't succeed. Please help the poor guy."

"Yes John, but it will take some time for me to understand what he has."

"I am willing to accept that." He leave the room via another door that leads out in the hallway. I too follow and shut the door. As I walk out I see the mother again with Vix walking out of their room. She waves to me as i wave back. The mother sighs and sets Vix down. "Go play honey, mommy will be there in a little." Vix leaves and soon the mother turns to me. "Sorry about what happened back there, just note that I still don't trust you, but I do have manners. My name is Katt. I already know yours, Daniel right?"

"Yes it is."

"Say has anyone took you around the area yet?"

"I've only been to the lake with Lucy but she went off to hunt for food."

"Well then come on, I'll show you another spot. I'm heading there anyways with Vix, my daughter, I presumed you already meet her?"

I nod. "Yes, she seems nice."

"Little charmer she is, come on. Oh and keep your distance. Don't want any funny business." With that we were both off walking to the area.
