I was startled awake by the sound of my alarm clock blaring in my ear. I groaned and rolled over, hitting the snooze button. I didn't want to get up, but I knew I had to.
Today was Wednesday which meant I had to go to school. I hated school a lot but it's not like I could just miss. After exiting the Box of Dimensions, I had passed out for a few days. I didn't want to think about what happened, but I knew that I had to get up and go to school.
I dragged myself out of bed and got dressed. I grabbed my backpack and headed out the door. I didn't have time to eat breakfast, so I stopped by a convenience store and bought a bagel and a coffee. I ate the bagel on my way to school and drank the coffee when I got there.
"Hey Thomas, haven't seen you in a minute. How have you been?" Kyle said from the school gate. "Also, you look a little different."
"Oh, uh, right I'm wearing colored contacts."
Kyle smiled and said, "Nice man, I like them. I'm glad you're back dude, you had me worried there for a second. Anyway, see you in class." He patted me on the back and walked off.
I smiled and continued to make my way to my first class. I was a few minutes early and I took a seat at the back of the classroom. My first period was biology, a class I really enjoyed.
Students began to pour in as the minutes ticked by. Finally, the teacher entered the room and the class began.
"Okay class, today we are going to be learning about the evolution of plants and animals." the teacher said. He then proceeded to explain the theory of evolution and how it was supported by evidence from the fossil record.
I listened intently to the teacher's lecture. I was fascinated by the idea of evolution and how it could explain the diversity of life on Earth. I also found it interesting to think about how life had evolved over millions of years.
As I sat in class, listening to the teacher talk about the evolution of plants and animals, an idea in my head began to form. How would life turn out if it was guided by an all-powerful being? How would the evolution of life on Earth have been different if there was an intelligent creator guiding it?
These questions swirled around in my mind as I sat in class, thinking about the possibilities. It was an interesting thought to consider, and it made me wonder about the implications of such a scenario. How would life have evolved differently if it was guided by an intelligent creator?
When the teacher finished his lecture, he asked if there were any questions. There were a few, and the teacher answered them all. Then, the teacher asked, "Thomas, do you have any questions?"
I was startled by the sudden question. I wasn't expecting to be called on. I had been so lost in thought that I hadn't heard the teacher call my name.
"No, not at the moment," I replied, trying to hide my surprise.
The teacher nodded and moved on to the next student. I was glad that he didn't press me further. I wasn't sure what I would have said if he had.
"Benny, I'm brainstorming an idea that I have about the next stage moving forward. Could I incorporate evolution in my new world? I want to create a world and develop it similar to the way Earth did. If I want to create a thriving world, I can't be so hands-on. I have to give it a little nudge and let it grow on its own. I can always guide it in the right direction."
"That sounds like an excellent idea, Thomas. I think that incorporating evolution into your new world would be a great way to make it more realistic and believable. It would also allow for a greater variety of lifeforms and species to exist in your world."
I smiled and muttered, "Great. When I feel ready, I'll get to work on it." I then turned my attention back to the teacher, who had already moved on to another topic. I was grateful that Benny had understood my idea and agreed with it. It was nice to know that I had someone to bounce ideas off of.
When class was over, I made my way to the cafeteria for lunch. I grabbed a tray and got in line. The lunchroom was crowded and noisy, as usual.
"Hey, Thomas!"
I turned around to see Kyle waving at me from a nearby table. I smiled and waved back, then grabbed my lunch and headed over to his table.
"Hey, Kyle," I said as I sat down. "How's your day going so far?"
"It's been pretty good, dude. How about you?"
I shrugged. "Eh, it's been alright. I'm still a little tired from last night, but I'm doing better."
Kyle nodded. "That's good to hear, man. You had me worried there for a bit."
"Yeah, I'm sorry about that," I said. "I've been dealing with a lot of stuff lately."
You would think that Kyle was a good friend from the way he talked to me but that was just his kind-hearted nature at play. He was one of the most popular guys in school. He was always nice to me, and he always seemed to be in a good mood.
We ate our food and chatted about random things. The bell rang and when we were done, I bid him goodbye and headed to my next class. The rest of the day was uneventful. When school was over, I walked home. I arrived home and opened the front door. My parents weren't home, as usual. They were both workaholics and were rarely home.
I went to the fridge and grabbed a soda. I opened it and took a sip. I then went to my computer and did research on the origins of life.
One of Earth's first living organisms were simple, single-celled organisms called cyanobacteria. These bacteria were photosynthetic and produced oxygen. They were the first organisms to use sunlight to produce energy and they were the first to produce oxygen. They were the first step in the development of life on Earth.
The next step in the development of life on Earth was the appearance of multicellular organisms. These organisms were more complex than single-celled organisms and they were able to perform more complex functions.
I felt my brain overload with information but I took notes to digest for later. This was just the prologue of a brand-new world.
