Chapter 46 - Chapter 46

Yet another few days had passed. My parents returned to their respective jobs while I remained home alone living my daily life. It was Friday afternoon and the weekend was coming up. A sigh of relief escaped my lips as I left the school gate after the final class of the day had ended.

The sky was a brilliant shade of orange and the clouds were a mix of purple and pink. It was a beautiful sight and one that made my heart swell with happiness. I walked home with a smile on my face and a sense of freedom that I had not felt in a while.

Once I returned home I continued my research on the basics of early biological evolution

The first step in the process of creating life was the formation of amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins and are essential for the development of life. They are formed when a molecule of ammonia and a molecule of hydrogen cyanide react together in the presence of water and a source of energy.

After the formation of amino acids, the next step in the process of creating life was the formation of nucleotides. I had a decent foundation to build upon but I wasn't ready yet. I wanted to make sure I had a plan before starting.

As the evening rolled in, I watched TV for a bit and then went to my room. I pulled out the Box of Dimensions and opened it. A familiar bright blue sky greeted me. The world below was in a state of absolute destruction but that was about to change.

"Thomas, I can detect a shift in your mood," Benny noted. "You seem a lot better than you have been as of late."

"I am still not in my best state of mind. I've decided to take one last look of the world I had created. I plan to remake it from scratch. I need to start over and create a new world. One that won't suffer the same fate as the one I've lost." I replied.

"That is a good idea, Thomas. It is important to move forward and not dwell on the past. It is also important to learn from your mistakes and use them to improve your future. You have grown a lot from this experience and you should be proud of yourself."

I clenched my teeth. "I know but I can't help but feel a lot of frustration on my failure," I replied.

"Of course. It is normal to feel frustrated and angry after a failure, especially when it was a major one. But it is important to remember that failure is a part of life and that it is not the end of the world. You will have other opportunities to succeed and you can learn from your mistakes and use them to your advantage."

I nodded. I created wings on my back and traveled around the world to see the destruction and chaos. Most of all, I did it to remind myself of what I had lost. The elves, the demons, and the Great Tree. They were all gone and I couldn't bring them back.

I replayed the memories in my head about all the friends I had made in the world. My time with Cyrus was especially heavy on my mind. His smile, and his joy while spending time together was real and genuine. I wish I could have been a better friend and god to him.

"I will miss them," I said. "They were the only friends I ever had."

"Thomas, I know it is difficult to accept, but you must remember that life is a cycle of birth and death. Everything that is born will eventually die. The important thing is to make the most of the time we have with those we care about. I suggest you spend some time grieving before moving on."

I nodded. "Thank you, Benny."

After a few hours of looking at the world I had once created, I exited the Box of Dimensions. I laid on my bed and felt a few tears escape my eyes. I couldn't help but cry. I had failed in my mission as a creator and as a god.

Why did it have to end like this? Why couldn't I have been a more competent creator and friend to the thousands of souls who perished? In the end, I was just a worthless, useless, incompetent brat but I had no choice but to keep moving forward. What's done is done.

I fell asleep and it was now Saturday. When I reached for my phone, I noticed a text message that read: "Hey Thomas, this is Miranda from biology. I found your number and wanted to know if you'd like to hang out today? I've noticed that you've been working hard on yourself and you've piqued my interest. Let me know if you want to accept my offer."

My eyes widened and I froze in place. It was from Miranda of all people! I had never hung out with anyone besides the occasional time with Kyle. It was always him inviting me, not the other way around.

Miranda was one of the prettiest girls in school. She had auburn hair and green eyes. Her skin was tan and she had a slim body. I smiled and sent her a text back saying that I was interested. We scheduled a time and place to meet up.

"Hey, Benny. What do you think? Should I go through with it?" I asked, feeling a bit nervous.

"It is up to you, Thomas. If you feel comfortable, then you should go ahead and do it," Benny replied.

I thought about it for a moment and decided to go, but I had some reservations in mind. Why would Miranda of all people want to hang out with a loser like me? I thought for a moment and wrote it off as a result of my new power making me more attractive.

It had been a long time since I had done something fun.

I got dressed in a pair of jeans and a nice t-shirt. I put on a pair of sneakers and a jacket. I grabbed a few bucks and headed out of the house. I hoped this would make for a decent outfit. I had a bad habit of dressing like a homeless person.

The air was cool and the sun was shining. I walked to the bus stop and waited for the bus to arrive. After a few minutes, the bus arrived and I boarded it. I sat in a seat near the front and watched the scenery as the bus drove. Finally, I had made it to my nearest great mall. I waited for a few minutes until Miranda finally arrived.

"Hey, Thomas. It's nice to see you," she said with a smile.

I smiled back and said, "It's nice to see you too. Why did you decide to hang out with me out of the blue?"

She laughed and said, "Because I wanted to get to know you better. I've seen you around and I think you're a pretty cool guy."

I felt a bit of heat rise in my cheeks as she said that. We then entered the mall and walked around.

"So, um... where should we go first?" I asked nervously. Miranda wrapped her arms around mine and led me on. "Let's do some shopping!" She led me through a myriad of stores catered to women. Some were brand names and outrageously expensive. Her eyes were fixated on a bag in particular that also caught my eye. It was a brilliant, purple color that looked like the starry night sky on a clear night.

I took out my wallet and looked at the cash I had on hand. I winced at the thought of spending it but I mustered up the courage and asked an employee that I would be purchasing it.

"You have good taste, sir!" She said with a grin. I paid for the bag and handed it over to Miranda.

"Oh my, is this really for me, Thomas?"

"Yeah, think of it as a gift."

Miranda gave me a big smile, hugged me, and planted a kiss on my cheek. Like any normal high school boy, I blushed and nearly lost my cool.

"Thank you, you just made my year." Shortly after, we made our way to the food court where we ate and engaged in small talk and then moved on to various topics like our hobbies, favorite classes, home life, and so on. I obviously omitted the fact that I was a god from the conversation so anytime the topic of our home lives came up I followed with a lie.

I learned a lot about her and she learned a lot about me. I was having a great time and I could tell she was too. After we finished eating, we decided to go to the movies. We chose a movie to watch and sat in the theater. The movie in particular was nothing too amazing. It was your average, action movie played by decent actors.

After the movie was over, we left the theater and went to the arcade. We played games and had a lot of fun. I won a few prizes at the claw machine but Miranda was... amazing to say the least. Every claw machine we tried, she won a prize. She also beat me at a few shooting games we tried.

"Cheer up, Thomas. I'm just too amazing," she said smugly. I cracked a smile and replied, "true that. To be honest, I doubted you but I'm glad I was wrong."

After two hours or so at the arcade, we decided to leave the mall and made our way to a nearby park. We walked around for some time. Miranda once again wrapped her arms around mine. She was a head shorter than me so I found my gaze wandering to her "assets."

"Let's sit here." We sat on a bench that overlooked a small pond. A few geese wandered around the pond and I found myself enjoying the peaceful afternoon. The sun had begun to set.

"Thomas, I just wanted to say that I had a great time today," she said.

I smiled and said, "I did too. I'm glad I decided to hang out with you."

She smiled and said, "Me too. Well, I should probably get going. I had a great time."

"Same here," I said. We then hugged and went our separate ways. I took a bus back home and went up to my room. I lay in bed and smiled at the thought of hanging out with Miranda. She was a nice girl and I liked spending time with her. I had a lot of fun today and couldn't wait to see her again.

I opened up my laptop and continued my research into the origins of life. It was slightly hard to stay focused when Miranda and the day were on my mind, but I couldn't help but feel suspicious about the whole thing. I pushed those thoughts aside and focused on my task
