Erol, Will and I made our way towards the stairway. The stairway was made of stone and it spiraled upward. It was covered in moss and it had a musty smell to it. There was also a strange green light that illuminated the stairs. I slowly ascended the staircase. As I walked up the steps, I could hear the sound of dripping water and the echo of our footsteps. The air was cold and damp, and I could see my breath in the air.
Erol followed close behind me. "I don't like the smell of this place," he said.
"Neither do I," I replied. "but we have to keep going."
We continued to climb the stairs. I looked down and saw that the stairs were covered in a thick layer of slime that made me feel uneasy. The slime was a dark blue color and it had an awful smell to it. Then, I noticed the slime move upwards towards the top of the stairway.
"What in the world? The slime is moving! Erol, be very careful not to slip." I warned as I made a mental note to not step on it.
The slime was now moving faster, and it was starting to cover the stairs. I could see the slime oozing from the walls and ceiling. I was feeling disgusted and I could see that Erol was starting to look a little scared. I wasn't sure if the slime would hurt us, but I didn't want to find out.
I decided to push forward and we continued making our way up trying to ignore the slime and carefully making sure not to slip.
"What's up with these stairs, anyway? Do you have any idea, Erol?" I asked.
"I believe that the room upstairs has a slime guarding it. Most likely a sentient demon."
I sighed and replied, "Great." I was not looking forward to fighting a sentient slime, but I didn't have much choice. We had to get past the Great Tree and stop the Great Tree from killing everyone. We continued to make our way up the stairs, and the slime got thicker and thicker until it was almost impossible to walk.
The Great Tree is really making my life difficult. I need to use Imagination Amplification to climb up.
"Erol, I'm going to grow you a pair of wings. Lift us up all the way to the top." I said and focused my power on giving him wings. When the unicorn grew wings, he looked a lot more majestic. They were beautiful, and I could see the muscles in Erol's shoulders rippling as he flapped them. He lifted us up, and we flew up the stairway.
As we flew up the stairwell, we saw that there was a door at the top that was partially covered in slime. We landed on the floor, and Erol let me down. He then turned around and kicked the slime off the door. I pushed the door open and we went into the room. The room was dark, and I could see a large, blue blob in the center of the room.
"So this is a slime, huh? It's huge."
"Food. Me hungry. Me devour you, intruder," the slime said it's gelatinous body moving with every word. I could see that it was a lot bigger than the slimes I've seen in anime or video games.
"Alright, let's do this. Erol, be careful," I said. I pulled out my sword and approached the slime. It didn't seem to be afraid of us, and it didn't move away. It was just standing there staring at me. I sliced a piece of it open but it didn't appear to take damage. Rather, it mended itself.
It was then that I realized that it was made of water. It's body is mostly composed of water, which makes it resistant to physical attacks. I thought about what to do when I noticed an orb similar to the other sentient demons only this one was a dark shade of blue.
"Erol, try aiming for the core at the center of its body. I'll try to keep it distracted." I ordered. Erol nodded in agreement and began to charge up his attack. The slime started to split its body into about a dozen or so smaller slimes.
"Damn, sorry Thomas, but I lost the slime with the core. There is a lot of them." Erol said as the slimes surrounded us. I cursed under my breath and swung my sword at the slime in front of me. It didn't seem to take any damage. I was starting to get frustrated when suddenly one of the slimes lunged at Erol. I reacted quickly and slashed it in half with my sword. It didn't seem to be bothered by the attack though and simply split into two more slimes.
This is getting ridiculous. If I don't do something soon, we'll be overrun. I need to figure out a way to get rid of these slimes. Suddenly, an idea struck me. I used my power to create a ball of lightning and threw it at the slimes. It hit one of them and it immediately exploded.
"Good job, Thomas! Keep it up!" Erol yelled. He started firing his beams at the other slimes. I continued to create balls of lightning and threw them at the slimes. They exploded one by one until there was only one left.
"That's the one we need to destroy. It has the core!" Erol yelled.
I nodded and threw a lightning ball at the slime but it split in half making me miss. Then out of nowhere, the single slime absorbed the slimy remnants from the room and became once big again.
"Damn it, you're persistent."
"Silence! Food no talk, food only food. Hungry," It said.
"Sorry but I'm not letting you eat me or my friends," I said as I created another ball of lightning and threw it at the slime. The slime dodged the attack and then lunged a blue tendril at me. I dodged it's attack and slashed at it. I managed to hit the orb but the slime's body mended around it, protecting it from further harm. I growled in frustration and charged up another attack. The slime was starting to move faster and it was becoming harder to hit.
The slime lunged at me again, and I tried to dodge its attack but I wasn't fast enough. It wrapped a blue, slimy tendril around my leg and pulled me into the air.
"Not again! Will, help!" I shouted. Will flew towards me and started to glow brightly. The slime released me and I fell to the ground. I got up and looked at Will, who was still shining brightly. I smiled at Will and patted him on the head.
"Thanks, buddy," I said. I turned to the slime and saw that it was backing away from Will, who was glowing even brighter than before.
Will appeared to have a universal light ability that dealt damage to all demons. I didn't know if he'd be able to kill the demon, but it looked like he was at least able to keep it away. I used the opportunity to rush towards the slime and plunged my sword deep into its gelatinous body until my sword struck the core.
"No. I failed master. I sorry Great Tree." The slime said before its entire body exploded into a slimy blue mess. I wiped the slime from my body and sheathed my sword. I walked over to Will and hugged his small, round body. "Thanks, buddy. You saved me." I said as I patted his body. I then turned to Erol.
"Alright, let's go. We have a Great Tree to destroy," I said. Erol nodded in agreement and we began to make our way to the next room.
