Chapter 12 - Reasons why

As the Scylla's danger faded and the sounds of conflict continued to reverberate through the air, Kyn carefully holstered his grim artillery. The weight against his side served as a constant reminder of the might it held, as well as the fact that the struggle was still ongoing. He returned his gaze to Gaia, expecting an explanation as well as a glimpse into the weapon's true power and potential. His expression expressed both amazement and great yearning.

"This revolver... it's not like any weapon I've ever experienced," Kyn responded, confused, referring to the weapon in contention. "Would it be possible for you to provide some additional incite to its origin?"

Gaia's mouth formed an intriguing smile, and her eyes sparkled with the evil spirit's mischievous mysticism.

"Ah, Kyn, my dear hunter," Gaia said as she addressed Kyn. "The best way to uncover certain mysteries is through direct experience rather than me explaining."

Kyn's brow creased, conveying a mix of mild irritation and curious intrigue. Because his suspicions about the weapon's nature and powers seemed to be spiraling out of control he found her attitude even more odd.

"Come on, Gaia," Kyn urged, "you've been a great help so far. This weapon just gave off a massive amount of energy. To what purpose does it serve... what benefit does it serve you?"

While Bertha, who was always there and vibrant, she gleamed in the background and Kyn pondered what was going on. As of now she wasn't chatting as she did from the start. It was as if she had met her master. As weird as it may seem he kinda missed the stubborn fly. Leave alone today morning her telling him that things will become obvious to him as they progressed.

Anyway, Gaia advised it as seeing it as both a conduit for the divine and a weapon capable of causing broad devastation. Its purpose; to harness the sun's energy in order to combat the rising darkness of night.

Kyn locked his focus on Gaia, fully aware that she could read his mind.

But how is that ever going to happen? Kyn inquired inquisitively wondering to himself. How strong the weapon was.

When he turned to face Gaia, as he observed her, the riddles of time were reflected in her eyes. She appeared to be wanting to speak, but then was unable to express her words. Rather of trying for a quick fix, she may have been urging him to relax and enjoy the experience.

"Maybe, darling Kyn, you'll learn the extent of its capabilities when the timing's right," Gaia whispered curiously.

"Some truths are better understood via actions rather than words."

Kyn's teeth brushed against each other as he strained to keep his focus on the present issue while simultaneously remembering that Gaia's method possessed its own distinct brand of inherent wisdom.

Kyn said to Gaia quietly, "I'll choose to respect you. As we continue on this journey, I will gain knowledge on it but you will also assist explain the motivation behind your acts."

Gaia's grin softened as she gazed at him with compassion while keeping a polite posture.

"That's the spirit," Gaia concludes, nodding her head in agreement. "If you accept the challenge, the weapon's secrets will be revealed when the time comes."

The echoes of their conversation remained as a reminder of the link between chance and decision that had determined their fate. The forest's sounds had returned, but the echoes of their talk lingered. Its precise function remained a mystery until much later in the journey, veiled in menacing beauty, but it acted as a symbol of their cooperation in the face of oncoming calamity.

The light faded as the gang continued their journey through the unknown terrain, giving way to the embrace of night. The warm glow of the moon filtered through the canopy, creating magnificent light and shadow patterns on the forest floor. The air was thick with magic and mystery, as if the earth's entire essence transformed with the changing of the guard from day to night.

With each stride they took, Kyn's thoughts flitted through his mind like fireflies. The paucity of modern modes of mobility had become increasingly apparent, particularly in comparison to the highly advanced city from which they had come. As they continued their trek, the lack of bridges or even basic crossings became apparent, and Kyn couldn't help but express his opinions.

"It's strange, isn't it?" Kyn mused aloud. "So far, the environment we've encountered appears to be medieval in nature. There are no bridges or modern transit options. It's as if we've traveled back in time."

"The world is vast and diverse," Gaia responded thoughtfully. "Each era has its own mysteries, and the flow of time varies in ways that mortals cannot comprehend."

Bertha, the wisp, gave out a faint glimmer, her presence a reminder of the ancient powers that woven the fabric of their reality. "Many eras are woven into the tapestry of existence. The worlds you explore represent a delicate blend of history and possibility."

Kyn furrowed his brow, his thoughts a mix of wonder and awe. The wisdom of their conversation seemed to link with the forest, as if nature itself had realities whispered only to those who ventured beyond the boundaries of their known world.

"So, you're saying we're traveling through different time periods as we're travel through this land?" Kyn was curious.

"In a way, yes," Gaia said, "the fabric of reality is woven from echoes of the past and future, which converge in ways that defy linear comprehension."

As night's grip deepened, the forest's symphony seemed to take on a more sad tone, a reminder of the secrets that lingered just beyond the range of perception.

"It's overwhelming to think we're a part of something so much bigger than ourselves," Kyn mused.

Bertha "The journey reveals the hidden layers of existence beneath the surface. Regard uncertainty as a blank canvas set for your brushstrokes."

Kyn's perplexity and curiosity hung in the air like a mist in the night. Bertha, who floated in the air like a mist in the night, seemed to sense his need for answers. Her light became brighter as she approached, and even though they didn't know anything about their work, her presence was reassuring.

"Kyn," Bertha continued softly, "let me tell you a little bit about the world we walk in." We are currently living in a culture that could be described as a 'Type 2' type of civilization."

Kyn furrowed his brow as he listened to Bertha's comments, which seemed to emphasize what was obscure.

"Type 2?" Kyn inquired. "So, what in particular does that mean?"

Bertha, "According to the Kardashev Scale, a society's level of technical progress is determined by how well it handles energy. A Type 2 culture is technologically adept enough to harness the entire energy reserve of its native planet and sun.

Kyn's eyes widened as he realized what Bertha meant.

Recognizing this, Kyn stated, "So, in this world, advanced beings like Gaia possess incredible power."

Bertha, "Indeed. Superior species can channel and direct the energies of their surroundings. Even the strongest among us can be readily overpowered when challenged by forces of equal or greater strength."

"But she's supposed to be the Earth itself," he pointed out.

"About this," lost in thought Kyn wondered out loud, "even Gaia, as ancient and divine as she is, has limitations here... OUCH! Please stop poking me!"

"I'm not old; I'm only 23." "Pfff," she exclaimed.

Bertha, "Correct. The fabric of life is woven with harmony. This planet reflects the delicate balance of strength and fragility, brightness and darkness."

Kyn had an even stronger sensation of belonging to the places he had recently seen as the silvery moonlight encircled the three of them. An advanced civilisation with Middle Ages aesthetics, no evidence of modernism, and a profusion of secrets, all regulated by forces beyond our comprehension.

Kyn, "I see. Even in a universe where gods and magic have altered reality, there is still a balance."

Bertha "Amazing isn't it, a balanced yet imbalanced world!!! your bold venture, Kyn, may end up weaving an unexpected pattern into the fabric universe."
