CHAPTER 7
After having another nightmare that kept visiting him, the young man furrowed his brow and massaged his own head. He never imagined that even just taking a nap inside his office, he could still have a bad dream.
He took a deep breath in a trying to calm himself. When two of his close associates entered.
"She is indeed a RiverStone University student," Lucas said as he examined the papers containing the information Kheed had gathered about the woman who had been run over.
"I told you, she doesn't look like a fraud to me," Kheed replied as he sat down after handing another folder at the young CEO who carefully reads the text and makes no audible comments.
"Her name is Samantha Lee Vasque, and she's an eighteen-year-old business administration student at RiverStone University, just like her ID says. She lives with her mother and one younger brother, and her father died twenty years ago." Luther came to a halt, thinking that the said year was so familiar to his. "And she does not come from a wealthy family; she is poor enough that she must work while studying."
"How did she get into RiverStone then?"
"Scholarship. She's poor, but she's brilliant," Kheed replied, smiling proudly, "beauty and brain... Ah, just like my type."
Lucas nodded and looked at the paper, thinking they could buy the girl's silence. Her family is poor, the type of people who are easily bought with money. "Is there anything else?"
"There's nothing special about her; she's just like any other student, except she's poor," Kheed replied with a shake of his head.
"Then I think we'll be able to get through this," Lucas said. "We don't have to worry about colliding with large people, and no one will pursue us."
"She saw my face," Luther said abruptly, drawing the attention of two men. "Are you serious?"
"I'm not sure if she did, but she opened her eyes once and looked at me before she passed out," Luther explained after setting down the folder he was holding. "In that case, we need to silence her," Lucas nodded.
"You're going to kill her?" Kheed exclaimed, surprised. " No! What I mean is to buy her silence! She's poor, so it's simple for us to do it." Kheed was relieved to hear that. "Looks like I have a different meaning of silence in my head, wew!
She's stunning, and it's such a shame if that happens"
"We vowed not to hurt anyone on this mission, and I'm not going to stain my hands for him," Lucas said, pointing to the young man who was deep in thought about the situation.
" You're right. I won't either," Kheed agreed, "But how's beauty? Has she regained consciousness?"
"Not yet. No word from the doctors," Lucas replied with a sigh.
"Don't you think we should contact her family?" Kheed asked, taking an apple from Luther's table and tossing it in the air as he played with it.
"Not until we get good news from the doctor."
"I'm sure her family is concerned and is looking for her."
"Then should we tell them she's unconscious with no guarantee she'll live?" Lucas wondered. "They'll be more concerned knowing her life is between life and death."
"Then what are we going to do with her family? Got a clue?" Lucas was thinking about how they could justify the girl's sudden disappearance when he received a call from the hospital. "Let me take this," the young man said as he walked out of the office. His two companions were left inside.
"If you only saw her face, boss. Ugh! She's a goddess!" Kheed sat in front of the young man who didn't seem to care. "Damn! Even in the midst of our operation, women are dying to get into you! You're the best!" Kheed exclaimed, shaking his head.
"Do you want to see her face?" Kheed persists in questioning the young man. Luther looked at it boredly and said, "I'm not interested," before quickly opening his laptop and getting to work.
"Are you sure? You're missing out on a lot," Kheed asked but the young man brushed it aside. "It's probably better if you don't see her face, you might change your mind," he shrugged, taking a bite from the apple he was holding when Lucas returned to the office.
"I really don't know how someone like you, with such a bad attitude, got lucky enough to collide with a goddess? Does the Lord now have favoritism?" Kheed asked, shaking his head.
"That's something you don't have, he gets goddesses while you get flirts," Lucas teased after taking a seat next to him. "At least I'm not a mafia boss who has to obey his grandmother,"
Luther came to a halt and glaring to his friend, "shut up."
The two tried not to laugh as they remembered how he was forced to attend a competition. "Anyway, the hospital called, and she had gone into a coma."
"Shit... Seriously?" Kheed reacted worried to what he heard, while the young man who caused it showed no reaction at all.
"The crash was so intense that some tissues from her brain ruptured that the doctor had to operate on her for twenty hours straight; it's a miracle she's still alive considering how badly she was injured," Lucas added.
"What about her face? Does she have scars?" Kheed inquired once more. "Are you seriously still thinking about her face?"
"Why? Only few people are blessed with that kind of face, it is necessary to care about it," Lucas replied with a shake of his head. "In any case, this remains a problem for us; the longer she remains in a coma, the longer we must wait."
"Do we also have to pause our operations?" Kheed inquired.
"I guess we should stay low for the time being until we can fix this mess."
"How about the Asano? Have you heard anything from them? Did they do anything after their supposed trading failed?" Kheed inquired once more.
"Their clan remains quiet and elusive, as if they don't want the X Organization to know what happened, but the Lopez are still actively looking for the person who stole their wealth, and the investigation into what happened is still ongoing," Lucas responded once more.
Kheed nodded, understanding the situation, just like their leader, who appears to be working but his mind is on the operation and the mistake he made.
He is supposed to focus on their operation, but due to a single miscalculation, he has to halt their mission when they finally collide with the clan they have been keeping an eye on for a long time. The reason he entered this world of violence, the clan that murdered his parents, and the one he wishes to punish.
Luther's grip on the paper was too tight causing it to crumble. His two friends saw it exchanged glances, knowing how the young man felt about the situation, but there was nothing they could do but wait for the girl to regain consciousness before proceeding to the mission.
Ignoring their friend, Kheed returned to his phone, hoping to play his games, when he noticed a message from their allied group.
"Dude, you're not going to believe this," he said as he displayed the message he had received.
