'Why am I burning up, what happened, where am I' Deacon thought after he woke up. All he could see were the chains on his wrists and ankles and stone walls that looked like they belonged in a cellar. It was then his eyes widened and he covered his stomach that he remembered that he had been stabbed by Emily.
"What the hell! Why am I not bleeding, where is the pain? Why did Em try to stab me? Where is Arthur?" And as if on cue Arthur came down the stairs and opened the door to the cellar.
"Deacon are you finally awake? I know you are probably confused but I need you to calm down and let me explain why you are here and what happened okay. Only then will I let the chains off of you and you can ask all the questions you want, and I will do the best I can to answer them."
"Let me start off with why you are chained up. I had to make sure you wouldn't go berserk on me when you woke up. I know it's confusing, but it was for both of our safety. You see you had a side to you that has been lying dormant in you since you were born, it came from your parents. I'm not sure if it was just one or both but you've had your vampire side sleeping your whole life and honestly I didn't want to wake it up but it was either that or you die and I didn't want that." Arthur paused for a minute to let the new information sink in before he continued
"Deacon magic and the supernatural is real, it is a very close guarded secret that not a lot of people know about and for good reason too. It's dangerous and if you are caught exposing it or trying to expose it you get hunted down, taking someone in and teaching them however is fine as long as it doesn't lead to mass exposure. I am going to take off your wrist chains now okay. Just relax and try to process this information for a bit and I will bring you some food okay." Arthur said as he walked over and slowly undid Deacons chains to allow him to move his arms freely. After that he went back upstairs to get some food for Deacon.
'Magic, Vampires, Supernatural, how can it exist. There is no way it can, even if people try to keep it a secret it would get out eventually, right…' Deacon wasn't sure what to believe he couldn't really comprehend that possibility that magic and the supernatural exist, it was every kids dream to be able to use magic, but after awhile the kid has to grow up and realize that it isn't real and now someone is trying to tell him that it is. He just couldn't believe it.
As Arthur was coming back downstairs Deacon heard a faint thumping, He assumed it was just Arthurs footsteps and ignored it and waited for some food since he was starving. When he finally arrived inside the cellar again, he had what looked like some leftover hamburgers, when he stepped in front of Deacon to hand it to him that's when Deacon finally realized what that thumping was. It didn't go away but it was now accompanied by the sound of blood running through veins. It wasn't deafening as he could still hear everything around him, but it was loud. He tried to ignore it, but it wouldn't go away, it was like a fly buzzing around his head. He finally asked Arthur to move back, Arthur thought he was going to go mad and jumped back but soon realized that it wasn't the case. Deacon still was having a very hard time believing it all but was slowly realizing that it might not all be a lie.
"Arthur what was that? Why could I hear that noise?" was all Deacon could say as he was trying to process the fact that he could hear a heartbeat.
"What noise? Oh… It happened huh. I don't know much about vampires so I can't help you out much but considering there isn't any noise I can only assume you mean my heart. If you focus you can probably hear yours too, its faint but it's there. I can see by the look on your face that its hard to believe but I need you to open your eyes and wake up, you were dragged into this when you were born, and the only way out is death. I know its harsh but believe me the quicker you realize the better because you my friend have a lot to catch up on." As Arthur finished his speech, he conjured a small blade of ice to show Deacon that it is all real.
"I have so many questions but first, why did Emily try to kill me…" Deacon sounded very dejected as he finished his question. He trusted her with everything and was happy that she came back, but then she tried to kill him for only god knows what.
"I knew you were going to ask that but I'm not too sure, she didn't use any magic and there wasn't anything magical in the entire house. Either she went crazy or she did it in order to practice magic, let me ask you a question, did she ever have her appendix removed."
"Yeah, right before she left for college. I remember she was super upset about it, but I always thought it was due to her having to miss class and pranking our teacher, why."
"That probably explains it then. You see the appendix isn't useless like everyone believes, its what most of us call a mana organ. It is what enables us to use magic and do what is now just apart of us. Some when they lose their appendix can't deal with it and either kill themselves or try to find a suitable donor, but the second option is highly frowned upon. But what better a donor than an unawaken vampire, the vampires wouldn't care since you were not a true one at the time and neither would anyone else other than me of course." Arthur said trying to end on a happier note, but it seemed to backfire because Deacon seemed a bit more upset.
"Can you undo these chains on my ankles please. I need fresh air." Deacon asked hoping to be able to go outside and breathe so fresh air and calm his nerves.
"Yeah that's fine just let me know if you need anything or if you start to have unnatural urges okay." When Arthur undid the chains and Deacon got up to walk up the stairs, he faceplanted into the stone floor.
"What the hell was that, why did I just fall"
"Beats me, you probably aren't used to your new body yet, things are still adjusting, and you have to get accustomed to them first" Arthur shed some insight on the situation.
"Great so a damn toddler is better equipped than me right now that's just perfect." Deacon said as he stood back up and slowly stumbled to the stairs to go up.
