Chapter 44 - THE STORY OF THE GRAND DUKE'S DAUGHTER

- SOMEONE -

'The Princess' Enchanting Thorns' was the novel I used to read whenever I stay in our school library. It tells the story of a princess named Lithia, who has never known his father's love. Her mother died and her asshole father pretends like he doesn't even know them. She was bullied by her stepsister, Helvetica, who doesn't even carry a royal blood to begin with and the other nobles continue to look down on her as if she isn't a member of the royal family.

Helvetica Ethereal was considered as one of those enemies. To shame Lithia in front of the crowd, she would generally laugh at her mistakes and label her as foolish, weak, pathetic, and defenseless. But the princess accepts everything and decides not to fight back; after all, it is her sister.

Until Helvetica appointed her a personal knight one day. Lithia suspects that her sister was plotting to kill her in secret, so she keeps her distance from the commander, but her feelings for her grow stronger each time passes by.

I despised Helvetica at the beginning of the story as she was always causing a lot of problems for her sister and acting like an immature bitch in front of everyone, but I get fond of her as her character begins to develop.

There were no specific details about the villainess, but I do know that she was engaged to Devourah Le Fleur, the Grand Duke's daughter. A woman with an ombre blonde mid-length hair that is considerably lighter than Lithia's, a gorgeous woman's face with ocean eyes, and a dazzling beaming smile encased in a healthy body. For the first time in her life, the princess who had previously been cruel to everyone began to learn how to love. Her fiancé, on the other hand, seemed numb about it. She has no idea how much Helvetica is willing to destroy the world just to protect her.

Devourah, on the other hand, was abused by her father as soon as she became the villainess' spouse. And Helvetica, who was well aware of the circumstances, assassinated the proud Grand Duke in front of the assembled throng. She knew she had already fallen in love with the princess at that point, but it was too late. Helvetica has lost interest in her and begins to focus on her maid, who has always been there for her when she needed someone to talk to.

Devourah eventually decided to end her engagement with the princess. She's already wounded by loving Helvetica. She knows what's best for the princess so she decided to set her free.

Nobody wants to play the role of the third wheel. You can't love someone if they're already in love with someone else. Devourah thought she was never loved by Helvetica. However, she was wrong about everything. Because the princess, who was entitled as the bad omen, shielded her from thousands of arrows, kept her safe from silly gossip, and escorted her on all occasions.

The Princess admitted that she still loves her and she wants her back. Devourah can't help but cry and regret her decisions as they embrace on the frigid battlefield. She shouldn't have let her go. She should've recognized she was in love with the princess right away. Helvetica wouldn't have to die if she have just discovered it sooner.

In the end, The Grand Duke's daughter is powerless to bring her first love back to life. Although it was a story between the knight and Princess who fell in love with each other and got a happy ending, I was fond of Helvetica's story instead.

And when I wake up, I became the daughter of the Grand Duke. At first, I thought I would be the protagonist like what I've read on every novel. You know what I mean? The typical story where the person who transmigrated became the lover's interest?

I simply imitated the Grand Duke's daughter's behavior when they first met. And I'm sure I never missed a line from the novel. But, how? How come that she picked the Duke's daughter when she was never mentioned in the story?

It was too suspicious because I was part of the novel and yet I rarely meet the protagonist and her sister when I'm supposed to be living in the Empire.

Camilla Rosenblitz. That name wasn't even mentioned in the book. I trained myself just to be fit for the position. I am confident that the princess would summon me in the palace.

But why isn't the story flowing according to the novel? What happened and where did it go wrong? I'm sure that she chose the Grand Duke's daughter as her fiancé.

"Lady Devie?" I already pleased the Emperor in order for him to assist me in forming a relationship with the princess. He should've known that. My service wasn't free. The knowledge I know in this world is only limited so I have to survive.

Thanks to Helvetica, I'm not going to deal with that annoying Grand Duke anymore. "LADY DEVOURAH," I came back to my senses as I smile to Lithia.

"Your mind is wandering. Care to share the matter?"

"I'm just concerned about being a Lady of Le Fleur Manor because I don't have any business or trading expertise. My father didn't even bother to teach me since he used to chastise me and tell me that I should stay in the kitchen and cook for my future husband." She looks at me with such sympathy on her face.

But it was the truth. I've suffered enough from his hands and I don't regret exposing his wrongdoings. I'm not actually satisfied as I want him to be tortured really badly.

"I'm not that expert when it comes to business and commerce. Only my sister is capable of assisting you." Knowing Helvetica's demeanor..

"But Her Highness has been already the Emperor so I'm not going to bother her with my petty request." She might throw me off if she gets annoyed. Lithia chuckles as she pours tea into her cup. "I'll tell her you'd want to meet her if that's what you want." I dismissively wave my hand.

"Don't you think that it's disrespectful for Lady Camilla? She may assassinate me for talking to her fiancé." She smiles as she takes my hands.

"Camilla is a nice person. I can't literally judge her since we're not close enough. But it's not like you're going to be my sister's concubine. She'll just assist you to run the manor." I give a small nod.

"Then I shall count on you. So, how's your relationship with the General?" I can feel the heat rising on her face as she clutches her cheeks. "What do you mean? We're not married yet."

"It's just the same. You'll get married soon." Although I didn't get to finish the end of the novel, I know they'll end up with each other.

"You're starting to sound like my sister." I laugh slightly as I stand up. "I'll take that as a compliment. Thank you for inviting me, Your Majesty. I'm afraid that I have to go now."

"It was nice to have you around Lady Devourah; I do hope you come often." I left the room as my eyes started to search for Helvetica. And the Goddess must be bestowing her luck on me.

"Greetings, Your Highness." I curtsied as we ran across each other. She was wearing her black knight suit along with the General, who's looking at me with a smile on her face. "Did you have a pleasant conversation with that pathetic woman?" I chuckle slightly. She constantly refers to her sister as pathetic, but she genuinely cares for her.

"Yes, Your Majesty. We just talk about business and trading, but she recommended me to come to you instead because you were more expert in this field. However, I'm afraid that you're busy and I can't just see you for that selfish reason—" I stopped when a loud voice interrupted our conversation.

"HEL!" She was running in the hallway as the Princess extended her hand. Camilla embraces the Princess while I was stoned in my position. That's not a noble behavior at all.

"Running down the corridor is not a good idea. You might fall since the floor is slick." Camilla, on the other hand, simply smiles and shifts her gaze to me.

"Greetings, Empress." I curtsied. She composes herself while giving me a smile. "I wasn't informed about your visit. But I'm glad to see your presence, Lady Devie." She dusted her dress as Helvetica sighs.

"Miss Le Fleur, please come and see me after 5 days. I won't be busy on that day, so I'll be able to assist you in gaining control of the South." I nod slightly in response.

"Well then, I shall take my leave Your Highness." I took one last peek as I stop walking. And there I witnessed, The Empress was blissfully smiling while being attended by the Princess. On the other hand, the reason why the Grand Duke's daughter set her free..

Is that she assumed that Helvetica has a relationship with the maid and that she shouldn't interrupt their love.

Little did she know, that Serina was the source of all troubles. She seduced the Princess and pretended to be the innocent party. After all, it was a battle for the position and she became greedier each time pass by. But how can Devourah knows that, when she only sees the Princess' maid as a servant?

It might also happen in this era. Then, If I'm going to be the supporting character, I might as well do my job. As much I wanted to be the protagonist and to be the Princess' lover, this time, I wanted to have a happy ending.

If it weren't for Serina, the story would have a happy ending, wouldn't it? So, rather than begging for the Princess' attention, I'm going to shift the flow of the story. I will make the maid fell in love with me instead.

It'll be fun, isn't it?
