Chapter 69 - You’re my best friend

Janvier ran towards the pair as they came into the house. She hugged Jason and Sophia so tightly. Her heart was thumping hard and she was trembling but other than that she was relieved.

She released them and was quick to notice how Jason and Sophia avoided eye contact with each other. She put an arm around Sophia and followed it with a punch on Jason's arm.

"Hey" Jason exclaimed amusingly.

"You have a lot to explain Mister ...especially to Veronica. She's mad at you"

"How mad?"

"Why don't you find out yourself", then she looked at Sophia with soft eyes. "My brother can never be careful when it comes to driving. Just looked at you. Your face is so pale"

Sophia just looked down saying nothing. Janvier held her.

"Come on. I'll take you to my room"

As they went upstairs, Jason's eyes followed them till they went into Janvier's room.

.......

Sophia was lying down on the soft bed while Janvier covered her up.

"You really don't have to do this" Sophia said as Janvier sat beside her with a bowl of veggie. stew.

"You're my best friend and when you're hurt, it's my duty to ensure you're okay"

Sophia felt touched. That was the nicest thing she had ever heard. She never had a real friend in her life. Her only friends were her dad and sister. People hated her because she was proud, rich and beautiful. The people that flocked around her, only did so to earn financial support from her. She never had a real friend.

A best friend.

She felt a twinge of guilt in her heart. If Janvier knew she was a Pueterico, would she still accept her as her best friend????

She looked down at her lips to see a spoon of stew close to it. She looked up at Janvier who was smiling at her. She hated meals like this. So she shook her head slowly with a bewildered stare at the spoon with steaming stew on it.

"Jason said you lost a lot of blood. You have to take this to regain your energy. You shouldn't stress yourself too. You shouldn't miss your meals as well" She saw her pout and flashed her a sad smile, sticking out her lower lip. "Please.....for me?"

Sophia was hesitant at first but the last thing she said softened her a bit. So she opened her mouth and accepted the stew.

It didn't taste that bad.

As she fed her, she asked Sophia a question.

"Sophia.....do you have feelings for my brother"

At once, Sophia starts coughing. She sat up, coughing hard. Janvier quickly put down the bowl of stew and in no time, raised a cup of water to Sophia's lips. Sophia gulped down the water gratefully and cleaned her lips, looking down when she was through.

There was an uncomfortable silence in the room.

Sophia was still sitting up.

She twisted her mouth with her brows raised looking at nothing in particular.

"Why did you ask"

"Because...." Her voice wavered a bit. "Because?" Sophia asked, an earnest look in her eyes.

"Because I think he has feelings for you".
