Chapter 1 - Reminiscence

"Hey, Hey..... wake up", a voice woke her up. She lifted her head and with droopy eyes she looked at the person from whom the voice drifted.

"Oh hi mom, it's just you. What happened? Need something?", she was so worried for her mother, the worry resounded in her voice.

"Nothing at all Darling, it's just....", the mother dragged her words.

"It's just what mom?", asked the daughter now fully woken up from her stupor.

With an awkward motion of scratching her neck, the mother replied,"....I'm just hungry...."

Hearing this the daughter was stunned for a moment before regaining her composure. She chuckled a bit, "What are you so embarrased about mom? Ain't I your daughter awwww", she planned on pinching her mom's pouting cheeks.

With a "Humph", the mom backed away dismissing her daughter's childish hands.

"Alright alright I'm up and ready to prepare your breakfast", the daughter replied still chuckling at her mother's morning plight.

"Humph, I didn't ask you to prepare anything, I just mentioned I'm hungry and that's all", with that the mother left her room.

Laughing her guts off she shouted,"I know mom, it's just me who wants to eat something and just for my sake I'm preparing breakfast!". For the reply she got another 'Humph' from her mother.

Still laughing clutching her stomach, she felt someone tap her shoulder with a cold hand. Frightened out of wits she turned to look at the hand and found her husband laying next to her, his hands over her shoulder. With a relieved sigh,"You scared the shit outta me", she said.

He giggled, "I know you are a morning person honey, but you seem a lot energetic today with all the laughing and stuff", he said with a gentle smile.

"Well yeah, but my mom just threw a childish tantrum now and you've totally missed it", she laughed again remembering her mother's banter.

In between her laughs she didn't notice that her husband froze for a moment. "But honey...."

She looked at him rubbing off her tears of laughter,"What...?" she inquired tilting her head.

"I do understand what you've been through, but Darling your mom died 3 years ago"

This made her pause all her actions and look at the space next to her on the bed and she replied ever so quietly, " And so did you...."
