Chapter 6 - Fight or Flight?

Kaos.

I knew she was going to come back. Perhaps I should not have allowed her to walk free.

I felt relaxed and drowsy after the taking hot cocoa but I snapped out of it when Dhara mentioned my temple and when I brought back the necklace he offered to me, the power I gained from the prayer dissipated and I felt drained.

It is something I never do. I never gave humans back their offerings, it becomes a part of me and I in turn use that to answer their requests. I had to make an exception, it was an energy draining action, he was grateful for it. but I watched him cry when I asked about who the necklace belonged to.

"Do you mind?..." he must really miss her. I tried to comfort him but I couldn't stand being so weak so I quietly laid by him and drifted off to sleep.

That was short lived when I heard loud revving sounds like the car Dhara drove here from multiple cars. I heard yelling downstairs and I knew who it was. Yara.

I glanced at Dhara, he was still asleep and no matter how much I shook him, he did not wake up. I noticed the necklace dangling from his hand. The moment I touched it, the door burst open.

Author.

"The fox is not here!" One of guards yelled. "it's only Smith"

"Take him" Yara ordered "He'll tell us where it is" She came into view, surveyed the entire room before marching out. "Typical" she spat. "Tekka, Take five and fan out. It couldn't have gotten far," she glanced at Dhara and noticed the necklace, dangling in his hand "attachments made you weak" she muttered before yanking off the necklace and dropping it on the floor. "put him in the Jeep with me."

"Yes Ma'am" Tekka turned on his heels and headed out with five men as ordered. "leave no stone unturned" he barked and after a long futile search, they reported back.

"it seems to have disappeared into thin air" one of the guards reported.

"Tch!" Tekka cussed, irritated at their failure. She would surely take it out on him now "round up and let's go" there was nothing else he could do now.

Dhara.

I stretched, feeling cramped up. What happened to the bed and why is it so leathery. I cracked an eye open, blinking multiple times to adjust to my surroundings. I saw boots including my bare feet.

My eyes snapped open when I realized I was no longer in the motel room. I was jolted forward when the car hit a pothole.

"ugh!" I found out I couldn't even move a limb. I raised my head and my eyes landed on a familiar blonde haired woman sitting in front of me "Yara!" I lunged myself at her in blind rage and two henchmen I didn't notice were sitting beside me restrained me. "where the fuck are you taking me!" I was seething "Where is she! if you hurt her, I swear..."

"She? oh...it's a She...wow, how did you find out?" she smirked "where is SHE, Dhara" any form of emotions disappeared from her face.

She must have escaped to the spirit world. I guess not destroying the temple myself or at all was a good thing, it gave her a chance to hide.

"I don't know where she is" I scoffed "even if I did I wouldn't tell you...you traitor!" she flashed me a cold smile and then next minute, her fist made contact with my cheek and my vision blurred.

"let's try this again" she smiled "where the fuck is Kaos!" she screeched

"just what do you need her for?" I wanted to know "her power? what?"

"Do you know how much the government would pay for a being like that?" she frowned when she saw my expression "what?"

"You didn't know. You couldn't have known, we would find Kaos there" I shook my head as far as I know, it was by accident we met Kaos. we didn't touch anything...unless she knew something I didn't

"oh yes...you don't remember but a new batch of parchment came in that day you snapped about your stolen lunch...i just swiped them when you weren't looking" she giggled. "I really don't see what you like about that coffee..." she fake gagged...This woman was a stranger to me now. "All I needed to do was to get you distracted but I didn't need to since you began to read out the murals and whilst you did that I secretly offered prayers to the god of the temple....and you played that part extremely well, Dhara"

"so you found a way to summon her, so what? she's gone now, there's nothing you can do" I smiled, Kaos told me in the rain that day, she came down because of me, she awoke because of me. I would like to spit it in her face that her prayers never worked. "you will never find her" I sneered, leaning back.

"Don't worry, if I don't get the truth from you, I have ways to get her to come to me" I hoped fervently that Kaos was having it better than I was wherever she is.

Kaos.

Fight or Flight?

I chose flight...

I was overwhelmed. My first time back in the human world and they haven't even changed one bit...still greedy as ever.

"Dahime, are you there?" a scratchy response came in "Is everything alright?"

"Not quite...a god disappeared" he sounded like he was being hurried out.

"how?"

"I am as surprised as you are, goddess" His tone got very low "it was one of War's minor gods, Strife"

"I see. That is awful. He must be devastated. How did it happen?"

"A western city went to war with one of the northern city. War went to render his services and Strife was unaccounted for when he asked for a report...She never came back"

"That is really awful...if there is anything I can do to help" I was sympathetic but the sense of dread never left me. It hung over me like a grey cloud.

"is there something you need?" Dahime spoke up

"Dhara...he was captured because of me... because I left him there"

"By that woman?" Dahime mused "it is not your fault Kaos. Humans cannot handle the fact that someone else is more powerful than they are...they would do anything to take that power or destroy it if they cannot have it" I could hear glass clinking together, he must be walking through his Time Field.

"Dahime, I am scared. I do not want what happened last time to happen again...it would be disastrous for the humans and me if I lashed out because I am on the verge of breaking"

"Take a deep breath, Kaos. Remember, your existence does not depend on humans..."

"Thank you, Dahime" I cut off the link and with a renewed resolve, I prepared to fight.
