Blood spilled onto the floor forming an unholy pool.. Mwene tried to scream but nothing, but dry, raw guttural noises escaped his lungs. He instantly lost all sensations in his legs. There was a wet warmth around his stomach. He couldn't think, he could see fine, but the weight of the situation hadn't hit him yet. In front of him was white death, holding him up by his stomach. He walked to the end of the room where there was a large gaping hole, showing the burning skyline.
Tens of metres away, hovering in the sky, was the New Genesis shuttle. Ayla gasped loudly; Nike was stunned but Inyanga was frantically targeting it with one of the two cannons on the shuttle. They were powerless to help Mwene as life gushed out of him with every passing minute. Inyanga's finger was itching to press the trigger, but it had deliberately placed Mwene between him and the cannon.
Anan's shock had brought her onto her knees. It's aura felt absolutely demonic to her. Tears poured from her eyes as freely as the blood did from Mwene. Her ears were bleeding, it was as if someone placed seashells over them. She heard nothing but echoes of the world as if she were in the deepest ocean. The vibrations from her radio on her hip caught her attention. She placed it to her ear, not looking away from the now lifeless Mwene. She could only make out one word: Distraction. She looked to her side and found the rifle she scavenged minutes ago when their fortunes were looking up. She instantly knew what she had to do.
"Anan if you can bloody 'ear me, you need to distract him. I repeat, create a fookin distraction. I've got something." Inyanga screamed into the microphone until an ear-piercing static forced him to switch it off. He cursed again and focused his aim at it waiting for an opening. "His life signs have begun to wane. He only has two minutes." Patience informed them stoically. "I know, '' remarked Inyanga as he watched it. Nike opened the shuttle door to get a better look, Anan sat back, hands to her ears, muttering to herself, rocking back and forth. "We're running out of time, '' Nike insisted. "I know." Sweat dripped down from Inyanga's forehead as he waited for an opening. Nike's shouting, Ayla's nervous breakdown, the drops of blood from Mwene's body onto the floor and his sweat had brought Inyanga to the breaking point.
Just as he almost pressed the trigger, it's head violently twisted to the right, it's neck in a very unnatural position. Inyanga paused as it slowly turned its head around, a large chunk of its chin was gone. It moved it's head to the left and whipped out it's other arm. It was already healing albeit slowly. It's arm glowed white as it aimed at something beyond Inyanga's screen. "It's aiming at Anan, shoot now!" Nike exclaimed. It's other arm glowed white as Inyanga pressed the button aiming for its head. Two energy beams launched, one aimed at Anan and the other at the shuttle. Mwene flew directly at them as the cannon fired a round in return.
The room exploded as Mwene crashed into the shuttle due to the energy beam. His impact caused the shuttle to spiral out of control despite Inyanga's efforts trying to stabilise it. The shuttle scraped on the rooftop of a nearby building knocking over satellite dishes and antennas. Nike and Ayla hung onto dear life. Inyanga committed his entire body to the left as the shuttle spun to the right. He engaged the booster engines as they approached a skyscraper.
They crashed through the window and skidded across the floor before coming to a rest at the other side of the building a mere inches away from the window. For a moment there were no signs of life from the shuttle, only the beeping of the alarms from the dashboard. Nike woke up in a haze. All he could hear was soft sobbing. He tried to get up but a burning sensation in his left shoulder made him whimper out in pain. "Check him." Moaned Inyanga. Nike pulled out an ugly chunk of metal from his shoulder and tossed it aside and crawled through the sea of dust to the sobbing. What he saw sickened him to his bones.
Mwene was burnt all over. His arms were blown off exposing jaggered edges of his bones. Both of his legs were blown off as well just beneath the knee. His face was nothing but blood and charred flesh with a hole where his mouth was supposed to be. There was a gaping hole in his stomach with the canister sticking out. The medallion was untouched though as if it were brand new. Ayla, her face completely covered in blood from a nasty gash on forehead, was trying to resuscitate him. "He's…still…. breathing." She sobbed between every pause. Nike grabbed the scuffed gel gun from his hip holster and grabbed the canister. He slowly pulled it out but when it was out completely a black substance oozed out of him and into his body. His medallion began to smoke violently.
A boom was heard in the distance. The building across from them began to shake. Then another boom rocked it. Then another. And another. Each boom closer than the last. "Where's the gun?" Inyanga shouted but he couldn't move. Debris around his feet had locked him in place. Another boom. "Fookin' gun" Inyanga continued to struggle but to no avail. "Ya…found….?" Inyanga managed to look back and what he saw robbed him of words.
Mwene's body absorbed the black ooze from the canister. His body began to heal rapidly. His limbs grew back. His face began to form again, his curly messy hair returned to him, his stomach wound closed and left no trace. He was a new man again. An almighty boom drew everyone's attention to the building across from them. It had crashed though it and was flying directly at them. Mwene opened his eyes. He knew what he needed to do. He performed a slick Kip up and landed in a 40 yard dash position in one swift motion. With every muscle, hopes and once of energy he had he launched at it. It was now in the building, on the same floor as them making a beeline straight for him. Mwene, mid-air, ignited in a glorious black blaze and struck it with the most powerful punch he could muster right in the middle of its face.
Like a meteor it shot straight into the ground and crashed on the ground floor of the building it had just crashed through. An explosion of dust filled the immediate area and choked Inyanga, Nike and Ayla. The dust settled quickly to reveal Mwene, blazing but not burning, staring at it. It had risen almost as quickly as it had been struck down. It focused it's gaze at Mwene. They intuitively understood only one of them would be standing when it was over.
