The hospital was a buzz, not that it never was but today it was especially busy. Everyone was running around, patients were being wheeled in by the minute and doctors who weren't on call had to be called in it was a nightmare. More especially for the students who were there for their practical's, like Mallory.
'Page doctor Whiston we need him in the ER.'
'I've got a distal radius fracture over here'
'Page Dr. James I have multiple fractured ribs, he has a tension pneumothorax pressing on his heart we need to get in the OR now'
Everyone was everywhere and she like the rest of her peers stood to the side waiting for orders. It hasn't even been a week yet and no one was expecting this to happen most importantly the students didn't know what to do or how to react. This was their first time being subjected to such frenzied conditions.
The chaos continued for a few more minutes before anyone approached them. It was one of the leading doctors in the hospital Dr. Alina Berar.
"Don't stand here being useless go check on the patients we already have keep a close eye on those in the ICU page me and Dr. White if anything happens and I mean anything, split up into 5 groups and get to work." she ordered the group making them scurry in different directions in pairs of 2.
Mallory was with Jacob, one of the students from her class. They weren't close but they new about each other well enough to work together without too much trouble. It wasn't until about an hour later when she would finally run into the man who would change her life forever.
Finally completing their second round of check ups Mallory decides to head up to the roof for a 5 minute breather. This was one of the most prestigious hospitals in the city and she was one of the lucky few from her school to be chosen to take her practical's here.
An achievement that made her and her other 2 classmates stand out on campus. The hospital had a range of elite clients stemming from the middle class and ending up with the wealthiest of the wealthiest. It goes without saying only the best of the best were considered and hired here and she was aiming to be part of that group.
Although she wasn't top of her class she ranked only second to her rival Mason Glider. Where she lacked in money and skill gained only from hours of intense training from the best prep schools the city had to offer she made up for it in hard work and determination in fact some even dared to say they both were on the same level.
Unlike Mason, she didn't come from a rich family who could afford tutors or the best books to teach her about her field in reality she had to work multiple part time jobs to pay off her living expenses that weren't covered by her scholarship. She wasn't particularly a petty person but she often told herself if she and Mason had come from families that stood on equal grounds economically, she would be better than him.
She made her way towards the edge of the rooftop to her favorite spot and sat down taking in the view of the city and the fresh air on the roof. It took about 2 minutes for her to smell the faint scent of cigarettes' that was in the air. She stood from her position looking around to pin point the source of the venomous smell.
She paused as she turned to look across the rows of roses that were on her left side, the dark figure of a men dressed in a long and thick black stylish coat. Mallory couldn't help but to stare, he was a beautiful man after all. His fair skin, the mop of permed hair covering his head, the suit that he was wearing was extremely attractive and looked like it was shinning under the lights and the moonlight. Under the suit was a white button up shirt that had a few of the buttons undone exposing the smooth skin of his upper chest.
For a brief moment she forgot the reason why she was looking for the man and just admired his beauty it took the ringing of her alarm to snap her out of her blatant eye ravishing and back to reality.
She made her way towards him which was also in the direction of the elevator. She had to get back to her shift. Bracing herself she stopped a few feet from the man and looked up towards his face. He looked even more handsome up close but she didn't miss the air of danger that surrounded him.
"Excuse me sir the smoking area is on the 7th floor for safety reasons smoking isn't allowed on the rooftop." She forced herself to say to the man in front of her.
