Awkward and embarrassing. That was the only way to explain the situation she was currently in. With her eyes widened and her cheeks red in embarrassment she took a step back sputtering all over herself as she tried to find the words to say to the man in front of her.
"I'm so sorry I thought you were someone else." She apologized to the man standing in front of her looking everywhere but at his face.
A deep hearty chuckle filled the air. She turned a darker shade of red.
"For a second there I thought you were someone else." She couldn't help the butterflies that filled her stomach at the sound of his baritone voice, the humor in his voice didn't go unnoticed either.
"I assume you know you shouldn't be smoking on the roof?" she replied still avoiding eye contact.
"Oh my, I'm afraid I had no idea." the man in front of her said in a teasing tone as he put out the cigarette he was smoking.
Vaughn looked at the woman in front of him in amusement and fascination. She was quite short compared to his 6'4" frame and was on the petite side, definitely not what he was expecting when he heard her voice. Truthfully he was expecting it to be Dr. Berar, she's caught him up here on more than one occasion. Although he knew he wasn't supposed to smoke up here he enjoyed playing cat and mouse with the woman so he did it anyway.
"Please refrain from smoking on the roof it's not safe." Mallory said to him as she tried to compose herself.
"Ah I'm afraid I can't do that sweet see this is my favorite spot in the building, this view was just made for a Treasure don't you agree?" He replied as he smirked and turned his attention back to the view he was staring at before she came.
"Besides, I quite enjoyed being scolded by you." He replied glancing back to catch her reaction.
In that moment the elevator doors dinged open and the guy from yesterday stepped through the doors pausing when he spotted the pair standing in the spot he and his friend usually stood at. His lip twitched in annoyance, he didn't feel like dealing with an annoying doctor telling him about where it was appropriate to smoke.
"You're late Zion."
Mallory looked at the man in front of her and back at the man who just walked out of the elevator, she didn't know what it was but she got the vibe he was irritated whether it was because of her or because of the man who just hollered at him was a mystery.
"Please refrain from smoking on the rooftop sir, or I'll have to report you." She said one last time to the man with blond hair and turned to leave.
She needed to be away from both these men as soon as possible before she started making a fool of herself. She passed by the dark haired man avoiding eye contact and made her way towards the elevator all the while praying she didn't trip and fall.
Vaughn smiled in amusement as he watched her walk pass Zion making sure to avoid all contact with him. He didn't miss the annoyance on his friends face and he was quick to put the pieces together.
"The names Vaughn, if you continue calling me sir lord knows what might happen." He replied making her cheeks turn red once again, Mallory rushed into the elevator and pressed the close button quickly earning a rich laugh from the blonde guy.
Zion rolled his eyes at his friends blatant flirting and playful mood and made his way to his side. He avoided him as he turned to look at him with a smile on his face as soon as the girl was out of site.
"I'm guessing you're the guy she caught smoking on the rooftop?"
Zion rolled his eyes and lit a cigarette earning a laugh from his friend. Vaughn was amused at his friend's expression. Zion was the complete opposite of his friend Vaughn who was a complete flirt and social butterfly. He preferred to keep to himself and was easily annoyed by the smallest of things. Together they formed the stereotypical portrayal of the rich and handsome but completely opposite bestfriends one would find in modern fictional literature.
Once on the 4th floor Mallory allowed herself to breathe as she fanned her flaming cheeks in the empty female staff bathroom. She took in her reflection in the mirror her cheeks were still red but the cool water had helped a bit, every few seconds her mind would drift back to the scene on the rooftop and she'd be back to being a blushing mess. She hadn't behaved like this since her first encounter with her previous crush Tristan Mavic a former Riverside student who was 2 years her senior. Then again she hadn't met anyone as handsome and charming as Tristan, well that's until now.
She shook her head and splashed more cold water on her face. Her pager pulled her out of the crazed state she was in indicating she was needed on the 2nd floor she quickly dried her face and made her way downstairs thankful for the distraction.
