H
I was planning to go see Cassandre and ask her why she's ignoring me for three days, but I got a message from Cassidy asking me to meet her at the college since apparently, she had lost something there, and she wanted me to help her find it, so I left my house in the afternoon and went towards my college but...
______---------___________-----------_________--------
30 minutes later,
"About time you got here, huh!" Said Cassidy. I put my phone in my bag and put it next to Cassidy's under a tree.
'Did she lose it here?'
Cassidy, bent over to look for what she had lost. We were currently behind the school buildings, no one could see us since we were hidden by the trees.
We were on grass, from the size it looked like a meadow. The tree, where we put our stuff, let us sit under its shade to protect ourselves from the sun, and it was the only one that was close enough to us.
I saw, out of the corner of my eye, Cassidy straightened up.
"H !"
'Well, I feel like it's going to be a long day, hopefully, the lost object is here!' I thought as I stroked the back of my head, luckily the grass was mowed, which helped tremendously.
Ah. I almost forgot the reason why, it took me a while to get here.
I arrived late since it only took me 15 minutes from my home to the college, then 'Mother Nature' wanted to chat with me. So after my break of about 5 minutes, I started looking for Cassidy, but, 'she is indeed playing hide-and-seek' and right after I said that to myself I received a message from Cassidy telling me exactly where she was located and that I should apparently speed up the pace.
I started to head to the indicated location, but on the way, I received another message. Oh?' I thought as I read the message and didn't respond but kept it in the corner of my mind.
About 10 minutes later, I found myself in this situation, yes, I took my time to arrive. Well, ok, I admit it I got lost, after 4 years in this school, it was the first time I learned that you could go behind the school so to find the way was complicated.
Well, back to the point, what are we doing here...
"Hey!" She looked at me, "What are you looking for and how come you lost it here?"
She shook her head in disappointment.
"It's what Cassandre and you gave me..." She answered me, lowering her head,
"The bracelet!" Did I say, she nodded her head, I knew she cared a lot about it.
"Gee!" I said, as I gave a pine cone a gentle tap, something caught my eye where the pine cone landed. As I got closer, I smiled and picked up the object. It was a silver bracelet, a small heart in the middle with 'E+H' written on it.
"Cass!" I called as I moved closer to her,
"Yes?" I reached out and opened my hand, her eyes widened, and a smile formed on her face,
"You found it!" She exclaimed, she held out her arm and I tied it on her wrist.
"You know, we could have bought you another one if you lost it."
"No, that bracelet was given to you the day you got together. "
"Oh... I see." I said with a smile, "ah, and you still haven't told me how that happened, how you lost it."
She stroked the back of her head, "It was during recess right after you left with the principal. Angel had got separated from her group. So I followed her, so I waited and intercepted her outside the bathroom. And I brought her here..."
"Cass-"
"I didn't hit her, it's just that at one point I held her and as I tried to pull her hand away from my grip, I think that's when I lost the bracelet… That day we had an argument, but don't worry, we didn't fight, we just called each other names."
"And that's the real reason why, you didn't go to class, that day... You were angry."
She nodded her head, her head down, she was disappointed in her.
"Ah, I'm still disappointed. I thought you had uppercut her or slapped her" I said shaking my head, she looked up and saw the smile on my face, understanding I was joking, and she smiled back.
"Well let's go! I have to go see your sister." I said as I picked up our two bags, I handed her, her bag, and we set off.
"Okay, let's go." I nodded,
...
We had finally arrived, Cassidy opened the door.
"Ah, finally here!" We went into the living room,
"Where are your parents?"
"I don't know. Mom!" We heard no response, oddly enough. On Saturdays, the whole family stayed home for 'some bonding moment' as they say.
"I'm going to go see Cassandre." Cassidy nodded as she slumped onto the couch. I walked up the stairs, turned right, Cassandre's room was the one at the far end.
I finally arrived at the door, took a deep breath, and raised my fist. That's when I noticed I was shaking, even though I was trying to stay positive, I was scared, so scared...
I took my courage in both hands and knocked 3 times on the door,
10 seconds
.
.
.
50 seconds
.
.
.
1 minute
I started to worry.
.
.
.
2 minutes
I knocked back…
...
"Cassandre?" I tried to control my nerves,
"Cassandre?!" I put my hand on my wrist, 'To enter or not to enter. What if she's in the room?'
Still no answer... 'Ah, never mind'
"Cassandre?!?!" I opened the door, my nerves preventing me from staying put.
No one.
There was no one there.
'No, no, no!' My heart began to speed up, 'where is she?'
"Harmonie?" I heard Cassidy call my name and footsteps coming closer, I forced myself to calm down...
"H?" I turned around, she was standing in the doorway, she looked at me with a questioning look on her face, she looked over my shoulders and into the room, "Where's Cassandre?"
I shrugged,
"It's weird because when she found out you were coming, she was happy even though she pretended she wasn't."
"Do you think she might have followed your parents?" I tried to ask, trying to reassure myself,
"Surely-" She was interrupted by a phone ringing from the living room.
We looked at each other, she went into the living room, I followed her.
She picked up her phone, it was her dad calling, she connected the call and put it on speaker.
"Cassidy?!" Said her dad in a worried voice, Cassidy raised her eyebrows,
"Yes, dad?"
"Cass-" We heard his father's voice break, "Your sister-" he began to cry, my heart began to speed up again and beat loudly in my chest.
"Cassidy? Are you home?" It was his mother's voice,
"Yes, mom. Mom, what's going on?" There was silence,
"Mom?!"
"They took Cassandre..." A hissing sound was heard in my ears,
"H-how is that? I don't understand." Cassidy asked,
"We were supposed to go shopping with Cassandre, but as we were leaving the house, some men came up to us, grabbed Cassandre in front of us before they knocked us out." She tried not to fidget, but you could hear the pain in her voice...
"Where are you?" Cassidy said in a panic,
"At the hospital, we're on our way. Is Harmonie with you?"
"Yes, I'm here," I said as I took the phone from Cassidy's hand. The latter collapsed on the couch and began to cry.
I turned off the speakerphone and walked away from the living room,
"Harmonie, I want you to take care-"
I interrupted, "What did these men look like?"
"How?"
"What did they look like?"
"Harmonie stay calm, we've already notified the police and-"
"What did they look like?" I repeated,
"Why would you-"
"Did any of them have a scar on their face over their left eye?" I asked, remembering the man who had come to see my grandfather,
Clara's silence confirmed that this was the case.
"Harmonie-" she began, her voice broke, before she could continue I said,
"Hurry up and come for Cassidy, I'll take care of the rest." I didn't wait for her answer, I cut the phone, and watched the latter pensively.
"Do you know them?" I looked up and saw Cassidy in tears,
"So this is your fault?" That sentence was like a stab in my gut.
But she didn't wait for my answer, she came closer to me, and screamed at me,
"ANSWER ME" I opened my mouth but no sound came out,
"ANSWER ME!" She repeated,
"ANSWER ME!!!" She said pushing me, I found myself on the ground, she came closer to me again, I looked at her that look of hatred she had on her face hurt me even more.
"I understand that you are in a complicated situation, but it didn't have to affect my family. My parents are probably hurt, which is why they are in the hospital!!!" She shouted, still in tears,
"So answer me, is this your fault?" she asked more calmly,
I stood up, and faced her,
"Surely," I whispered,
"Surely?!?! What the fuck, Harmonie??!?! They took my sister!!!! They hurt my parents, and you're saying, probably?" Her eyes burning with hatred,
"Then you'd better fix this. You promised you wouldn't get her in trouble. Maybe what Angel said about you is true, that you just break everything you touch. I hate you!" she spat at me,
I took her hand, she tried to break free, but she couldn't...
"Get off me!"
I then put her phone in her hand and walked out of the house. Took a deep breath and started walking, I didn't know where I was going...
I know she said it all in anger, but that doesn't take away from the fact that she is right. They're all right. Things got from 0 to 100 real quick.
A tear rolled down my cheek, I quickly wiped it away, pulled my phone out of my bag.
The phone rang, and I heard the call connect,
"Yes, hello!"
"Chloé-" my voice broke, and the tears flowed even more, 'No you're not allowed to cry, Harmonie. You must not cry. Calm down, breathe and calm down. I mean, try...'
"Harmonie?" I heard her say, coming out of my thoughts in a surprised voice, she didn't expect me to have her number and call her. It was my grandfather who had passed me her number, I just recorded it, but I never tried and mostly hadn't a reason to call her until now.
"I need your help," I said in a shaky voice and completely out of breath, I could hardly breathe...
