Chapter 10 - Roots of inception

Sighing as he knew that he was stuck in the underworld with no way to get back home, Elijah could only move on with the mission he tried to ditch halfway - seeing how things would look like when it reached completion looked like his only way out of here.

Going through the rest of his memories that contained the very origins of magi-craft, Elijah once again drifted into his dreamscape. But this time, the difference was that he didn't try to stay awake, but instead relaxed as he closed his eyes shut.

Apart from reading the words appearing on the golden book pages, Elijah could also assimilate those information into his memories, and by doing that, they turn into clear vivid descriptions of actual images, as though he watched them from a third-person point of view. It was basically like remembering memories that weren't his.

But doing so if the information were little, it would cause him nothing but a slight headache, but if they were a huge amount of information, then he would probably have fainted as he did thirty minutes ago. Drifting into a serene world of absolute calmness as his brain absorbs every little information it received, soaking them up like a sponge.

It was the wet dream of every student who wished to study well while sleeping overnight.

Feeling the clear factual information as they turned into clear moving animation as he watched from a third-person view, Elijah found comfort on the rigged walls of the caves as he waited in anticipation to know what other secrets this mythical world holds.

…...

3.98 million years A.C ( After Creation)

In a world called Oasis, a realm where gods walk amongst men, and heavenly pantheons ruled all below the heavens. A realm that served as a bridge between different outer realms, bringing together sentient beings in all shapes, races, and sizes. Be it Elves, dwarves, giants, fairies or humans that dwelled on the earth, dragons, gryphons, and wyverns dominated the ever-present clouds floating high above the earth.

The seas weren't spared too, as mermaids, sirens and other humanoid aquatic sentient dwelled in harmony under the tides. It was nevertheless a realm made for both the gods and mortals.

But in that instance, at that single moment, a human thought, with a single question in his mind.

'Can I be a god?'

His name was Brontes, a prince of a human kingdom in the grand land of Oasis.

It was a single thought bearing no malice or ill will to the god he served day and night. As the gods bearing the same resemblance as him, granting mortals like him their grace to perform wanders and supernatural fits beyond common reasoning.

He too thought he could do the same.

He too wanted to do the same by casting fire from the heavens and overturning mountains with bare hands.

And as time went on, the thirst for such powers bore fruit in his heart. And as Brontes tried to keep them closed in his heart, seeing such things towards the god he had such high devotion for as blasphemy, he could only keep those sinful thoughts encased as their roots bore thorns, leaving him to bear the pain of such thoughts every single day.

But the heart of man was one that sways him with sinful pleasures, then traps him with curiosity.

After several days of anguish, he finally gave in.

Brontes wished to know how the deities that ruled above the sky got their powers, and how to get his. Thankfully, he was in the land of Oasis, a world of deities from different pantheons and beings of different cultures.

Setting out on his quest to possess such knowledge, he searched all around Oasis, making research and many breakthroughs.

After 10 years of endless struggles in search of a way to become a god, It wasn't long until he reached a major turning point, he had finally found it.

Like the way Demeter or Gefjon commanded a plant to grow, Brontes too commanded, and it grew to like those of the gods. He had finally done it, a power only the gods can possess was finally in his hands.

Putting together his years of research, full of trials and errors, he gave it a name, something only he in the realm of Oasis possessed.

He called it 'magicraft'.

And himself the first mortal to conquer the power of a god, 'a Magi'.

Filled with exhilaration, he had finally reached the end of his quest. Throwing banquets and parties was what he did all day, letting everyone be aware of the fact that he had obtained the powers of the gods. But of course, all who heard him shunned and berated him for his impiety against the gods, with no one believing him - calling him a madman as his transgressions would not go unnoticed by the gods.

But as years went by, he discovered a problem. The gods were young, never dying of old age, and were invincible to all mortal dangers. Nothing could harm them, neither were their bones as frail as sticks, or flesh as weak as wool. Countless years were nothing but mere seconds in their eyes. They were invincible.

In other words, they were 'immortal'.

Stretching his hands above the wrinkles that adorned the features of his visage, Brontes would live to see his death, as such, that one thought once again lit a flame in his chest. He wished to be a god.

Setting out once more, but this time heading to a specific location. After his many years of travels, he had come about many instances about the existence of the world tree, and he knew that it would hold all the answers he wanted.

Upon reaching his destination, he stayed there for several days and nights, trying to discover the secrets of godhood, with all results been a failure. Until one night, he had unknowingly formed a connection with the world tree, it was like a grace given to mortals by a god, but it felt different.
