Chereads / My Living System / Chapter 10 - The Living System

Chapter 10 - The Living System

'That voice! It's coming from inside my mind!' Leonard quickly took a look around the room, just in case. He could never be too careful when facing the supernatural. Perhaps something dangerous had followed him from the other realm!

Then, he processed what the voice had told him. 'The Living System? I've gained the qualifications? What do I do now, though?''

[It is already installed. Simply think about the Living System, and you will understand.]

Leonard had no reason to doubt the words he was hearing as he began to think of the words "Living System".

Immediately, Leonard's mind began to be full of information as an interface appeared in his mind.

It was short and to the point.

[Money: 0]+ [Missions]+ [Store]+ [Inventory]+

Each of the sections had a plus sign, they could be expanded to see a short description about them. Therefore, Leonard promptly did. He was confused about the mechanics of this, and how and why he had the qualifications, but more information was never bad.

[Money: 0]-

[The Living System can store money. Monetary rewards from missions will be stored in the system, and only money in the system can be used to purchase items from the store. The deposit or withdrawal of money will take longer the more money is being moved.]

At this point, Leonard didn't really have a reason to be skeptical of what he had just read. He had already been forced into some supernatural occurrences, and no science could explain what he was seeing. However, he wanted to see it happen for himself, a final nail in the coffin to any thoughts that this might not be real!

He shuffled around, taking out a simple 20 dollar bill. 'How do I store this?' Looking at the money in his hand, he had the intention of storing it.

Immediately, a floating vault appeared in front of him, the middle looking extremely blurry and distorted, like a whirlpool of darkness. He knew what he had to do. Leonard reached out his hand and dropped the 20 dollar bill into the middle. The vault door slammed shut and disappeared. Leonard shifted his attention to the money in the system. After about three seconds, it had changed.

[Money: $20]

'Withdraw $20,' Leonard thought inwardly to himself. With just that one thought, the floating circle appeared once more, and from it, the same $20 bill was shot out.

Leonard was ecstatic, just like when he found out that the white void was real due to him keeping the papers, this was similarly monumental. This was a supernatural event he could cause at will. Yet, there was more to this "Living System". 'I can investigate the rest of this "System", and see how I might be able to use it to save Yukki'

Leonard opened up the description for missions and started reading.

[Missions]-

[The Living System will provide the user with randomized missions. Completing them will provide money. The mission difficulties may be permanently upgraded using money, this will also increase their rewards considerably.]

[Daily Mission: Killing a Gang Member (Reward: $5000)]

[Weekly Mission: Locked] Unlock with $50,000

[Monthly Mission: Locked] Unlock with $500,000

'....Me...murdering someone? I planned on robbing people, sure, but… but $5000 for killing a gang member of all people? That could cover the costs of living in this shitty house for months! Assuming nothing unexpected happened, these missions could provide the cure for our lack of money! If I keep doing these, I could provide for ALL of Yukki's medical bills! Speaking of Yukki…' He had really high hopes for the next section. "Store", 'perhaps it would directly sell him the things I need to rescue Yukki! '

[Store] -

[In the store, things can be bought from the system using money.

Regular items are sold at an inflated price.

Special items are regular items that are different from regular items. They might be illegal, dangerous, or very rare. These items are sold at an even more inflated price, and some have purchasing limits.

Mystical items are items that by all means, should not exist. These can range from magic potions to invisible bulletproof armors. Many of these items are temporary. Depending on the item, cost and limits vary greatly.

These items are separated into tiers. Unlocking higher-level tiers requires the use of money.]

[Tier 1 Regular] +

[Tier 1 Special] +

[Tier 1 Mystical] +

Leonard was immediately drawn to the Mystical items 'Who wouldn't want to own a supernatural item!? Such a thing immediately gives me an advantage over others!' As he kept reading, he calmed down a bit, seeing that the majority of the items were temporary. 'This was it!' This was the way for him to rescue Yukki. As long as he could use this system, and as long as he wasn't too late, he would always have hope.

He immediately started browsing through the various mystical items, only to be shocked at the price! "A single-use, one-minute noise suppression device costs $5000!?" Still, once he looked at the inventory, he would come back to thoroughly look through the shop.

[Inventory] -

This is a storage space for items. Only items bought from the system can be put here or taken back.

'This seems simple, but as long as I bought it from the system, I can take out anything I need at a moment's notice as long as I have it prepared. Even if I didn't, surely it wouldn't take too long to buy what I need from the store.'

As he took in this information, Leonard also began a separate train of thought, 'The qualifications, surely the strange experiences in the other realm form at least a majority of the reason I have these 'qualifications'.

'It seems to me that both realms were trials. One related to combat, the other…' Leonard took out the papers. 'I don't know what to call this. However, for it to form one of the trials, it must be important! Perhaps, it might be some sort of magic study!' Leonard let his imagination run wild. Not having any real understanding of what exactly was happening, he could only take guesses, each more exaggerated than the last.

He shook his head. He had to be serious. No use fantasizing over guesses. He began to think about some strange past occurrences, 'Following this train of thought, this clearly wasn't done on the spot, as I have been having strange headaches and other occurrences for weeks now. Originally I thought it was because of stress, but now, I'm more sure of it, those were either side effects or small tests.'

Leonard then moved his attention back to the Living System. No matter how it came to be, or why he had it, now that he has it, he might as well use it to its maximum potential.

First, he had to make a plan. His first order of business was locating Yukki. 'Perhaps one of the shop items can help with that? If not, then I could interrogate one of their gangsters. With all these shop items in the system, capturing one of them shouldn't be too hard, right?'
