Chapter 15 - The Story of Cerberus, The Desperate Green-furred Dog

In the cafe.

Giles stared at Rex in shock.

He did not expect Rex to be so bold as to hunt Epic-rank beasts.

One had to understand that the wild ferocious beasts had been living in a harsh environment since they were young. They followed the law of survival of the fittest.

This resulted in every ferocious beast that grew up to be extremely terrifying.

Not to mention that they were now talking about an Epic-rank ferocious beast.

It was impossible for Rex, an Epic-rank Beast Tamer, to do it alone.

When the beasts attacked Yin City last year, an Epic-ranked beast had come as well.

In the end, Alice and Rex had to work together to kill it.

Now, Rex would be the only Epic-rank Beast Tamer. Together with the other Gold-rank Beast Tamers, they were going to challenge an Epic-rank beast in the wild.

This wasn't fighting with his life on the line, but rather throwing his life away!

"I'm sorry, Mr Rex. I refuse to participate in this operation."

Giles felt that he was still very young and had not thought of going into the wilderness to die.

"Also, I think Mr. Rex should consider carefully how terrifying an Epic-rank ferocious beast is. I think you know that better than me.

Rex seemed to have expected this reaction from Giles. He smiled and continued, "Don't be in a hurry to leave yet, Mr Giles. I'm not finished."

"When I'm done, you can consider participating in this operation."

Upon hearing this, Giles paused and sat back down in his chair, curious about what Rex was about to say.

"We aren't actually killing an Epic-rank ferocious beast."

When he heard this, Giles heaved a sigh of relief.

"Strictly speaking, the target of this operation is an Epic-rank ferocious beast that is about to break through to the Legend rank."

Giles felt his skin crawl. Then, he looked solemnly at Rex and said, "Mr Rex, I suddenly remembered that there are some things that I need to deal with in the gym. I won't be participating in this operation."

Infuriated by Giles, Rex placed a hand on Giles' shoulder and said, "Young man, can't you wait for me to finish?"

"I may be old, but I haven't lived long enough."

Giles sat down helplessly.

"Old man, can't you finish telling the whole story in one breath?"

"It's scary to keep getting shocked."

A moment later…

Rex finally finished.

It turned out that the target of this operation was an Epic-ranked beast that was about to break through to the Legend rank.

However, the beast had already fallen into a deep slumber.

When it woke up again, it would evolve into a Legend-rank beast.

One had to know that humans and ferocious beasts had already become mortal enemies.

Now that he suddenly learned of an Epic-rank beast that had fallen into a deep slumber, Rex was naturally very worried.

When this beast evolved into a Legend-rank beast, it would definitely attack human society.

After careful consideration, Rex decided to strike first.

Taking advantage of the beast's dormant evolution, he would kill it!

However, the only thing that gave him a headache was that the beast's body was covered in an extremely hard protective shell during its slumber.

Rex had tried using his Epic-rank spirit beast, Fiery Bird, but it was impossible to break through this barrier.

In other words, this barrier was enough to withstand the attack of an Epic-rank beast.

Just as Rex was having a headache over this, he learned that Giles' spirit beast had broken the protective barrier of the training ground.

He was instantly shocked.

However, Rex then realized that this was a chance.

Since it was able to break through the protective barrier, it should be able to break through the ferocious beast's protective shell.

Then, there was Giles. He was lost in thought after hearing all that.

To get him to agree, Rex continued,

"Don't worry, we still have another Epic-rank Beast Tamer participating in this operation. Even if we don't succeed, safety won't be an issue."

"Also, I can pay you in advance for this mission."

"Furthermore, if you are to succeed, you will also have a share of that ferocious beast."

Hearing Rex's words, Giles admitted that he was tempted.

"Alright, I'll participate in this operation."

"When do we leave?"

Rex grinned when he heard Giles agree.

"We'll set off tomorrow morning and assemble at the city gate."

After discussing some other details, Giles returned to Starlux Gym.

He had just returned to the gym, when the group of spirit beast cubs went straight to Giles' side and blinked their large watery eyes at him.

Giles looked at them helplessly.

"Alright, alright. I'll tell you a story now."

"If not to help you guys evolve, why would I have to work so hard?"

The cubs didn't quite understand what he meant. They sat in a row on the ground and tilted their heads while looking at Giles.

"What story should I tell you?"

"Let me think."

A series of stories flitted through Giles' mind as his gaze swept over the spirit beasts.

Then, his gaze fell on the Green-furred Dog.

The story in his heart also froze there.

"Alright, I'll tell you this story."

Giles gazed at the blue sky as his ethereal voice drifted into the ears of the spirit beasts.

"The main character of our story this time is a dog with three heads."

"Its name is Cerberus."

Among the spirit beasts, the Green-furred Dog pricked up its ears and listened intently as Giles' story began.

"It grew up in the dark and evil Underworld."

"It has three heads, and was also known as the Three-Headed Hound of Hades."

"Ever since it was born, it has been guarding the door to the Underworld."

"It is the emissary that guides souls, and also the gatekeeper that prevents the dead from escaping from the Underworld."

At this moment, the Green-furred dog suddenly blacked out and lost consciousness.

When it woke up, it realized that everything before his eyes was pitch black.

The Green-furred Dog's eyes were filled with confusion.

Where is this?

The next moment, it seemed to have thought of something.

It turned its head abruptly and was shocked to discover that it was a stone door that was as high as the sky.

This is the Underworld!

Now, it has become the guardian of the Underworld—Cerberus!

It arrived in front of the Underworld River.

In the pitch-black water, it saw its own reflection.

It was a dog with three heads and a snake as its tail.

Giles is actually this powerful.

It actually allowed my soul to descend into this world and become this powerful Cerberus.

I can't let him down.

So what if I look like this now? I want to evolve into this in the real world too!

Standing at the edge of the Underworld River, it raised its head and let out a long howl.

Thus, it became the gatekeeper of the Underworld and was responsible for receiving the souls from the world of the living.

During other times, it would also absorb the discarnate souls in the Underworld River to strengthen itself.

It had thought that such days would continue forever.

Until this day.

In reality, Giles' story continued.

"Cerberus has always guarded the gates of the Underworld."

"Until this day, it met Hercules, the God with incredible strength."

"Donned in his breastplate and lion skin, Hercules came to Hell to bring Cerberus back to the world of the living."

"Cerberus fought him, but it was no match for him. It was subdued by Hercules and brought back to the world of the living."

In the story world.

The Green-furred dog that had transformed into Cerberus saw Hercules.

It raised its three heads and looked arrogantly at the enemy in front of it.

Its battle with Hercules was about to begin.

However, it was defeated. Utterly defeated!

Finally, like a stray dog, it was dragged back to the world of the living by Hercules.

It raged, roared, and struggled…

However, it was all in vain.

At that moment, the Green-furred Dog was filled with despair.
