Eli, being his parent's first child, has caused a bit of panic amongst his parents. "Have you ever heard of a child not crying when he's born? Aliana his mother asked. Her husband, Skizer, was no better experienced with children her, however. He grew up the youngest of 3 boys and as far as he knew they had all cried at birth. Not to mention he retired out of a special division of the army and had never worked with a young child in his life.
"No, but what honestly concerns me, even more, was the look on that nurse's face! She acted like our child was some kind of maniac just because he didn't scream like all the others." The expression on Aliana's face only became sourer and sourer. "Skizer..." She turned slightly away from their child in his nursery to better face her husband, "What if he is mute?"
Both of Eli's parents were respectable and some of the more battle-hardened people on their side of the desert border. Aliana was a well-respected warlock, specialized in powerful demonic magyk that was hard, if not impossible, to come by in this day and age. Eli's father was a syph a rare creature with the ability to mimic others' forms and abilities. The two parents had met on the battlefield between their two kingdoms, now know as the alliance. Despite the horror and bloodshed each parent had faced during their time, neither was as terrified as they had been at this very moment. Murder, sacrifice, war, hunger, all seemed like petty and superficial things compared to the sheer magnitude of what they were facing. They shared a look with each other, silently agreeing that having and raising a child might be the hardest thing they would ever do.
Eli, currently unaware of his parents' step into the unknown, was pondering his predicament in the back of his mind. 'First thing I know is that somehow, I'm still alive.'
--Right! We definitely are!--
'We also know that somehow I'm a baby?'
{Correct}
'So between those two things we can conclude that somehow I was reborn, and since they are speaking English we must be in the U.S.'
{False}
'False what?! Your not some lie detector spit out some real information, Aziz!'
{Well your right about us being reborn because we have regained our life, but you are very wrong about where we are.}
'We? What do you mean it isn't like you guys are actually alive.'
{Normally that would be the case} Aziz responds, {However somehow, after you died, I seem to have more of a mind of my own}
--It seems the same to me also-- Aria responds internally examining what seems to be memories within herself. --I even seem to have memories and knowledge of this world, you are currently in a place called the alliance.--
With this information, Eli had a new revelation. If these voices have their own memories and knowledge they have sentience. This is a new world so it might have a way for me to get rid of this affliction once and for all. {Looks like a plan to me} Aziz says while monitoring Eli's idea. 'Good. Then I'm gonna need all the help I can get with you guys.' 'I've decided we need to start off by determining what on earth you guys actually know.'
Aria begins to explain that she seems to have knowledge of some sort of ritual known as summoning when suddenly Eli's parents begin to shake him awake.
He immediately notices what's going. "I'm up, I'm up!" He tried to say, yet all that came out was a simple "imuimu". 'Well it seems I can do little more than babble' He thought with a frown. "Our baby isn't mute! I told you there was nothing to worry about!!" Aliana said while playfully punching her husband. "Owww." He said while rubbing his shoulder "Your the one who thought that was possible in the first place."
Despite both parent's more casual tones, they were extremely relieved that their baby had a voice, after all, most magic needed a voice to work, and they had yet to know what magic he was able to use. The possible types of magic he could potentially develop were completely unknown, the child of a Syph and a Human Warlock had likely never happened before on this world, and if it had they were unaware of it. Despite this, syph's generally had access to all elemental magics and were able to copy and use other types of magic by combining their mana with their opponents. If they used their opponents magic enough they could permanently use one of their spells, although this took much more focus and mana than their typical skill set required.
Warlocks on the other hand relied on various patron saints they could call upon to bestow incredible abilities on them for a specified amount of time. This would technically be possible to everyone except that Human Warlocks weren't really human, but more of a rare and special breed of humans. They were able to communicate with the patron saints due to their unique ability to converse with them. Aliana had realized she was able to communicate with these unearthly beings at a young age and eventually grew to be a powerful war-oriented mage with several patron saints willing to help her. Some patron saints had conditions, however, where they would only grant their power if someone was worthy, or for a specific time limit, etc. Even dumber conditions like only if they are left-hand dominant existed in the vast range of patron saints.
Despite both the parent's abilities being rare, they were by no means the strongest nor were they as well developed and researched as many other professions had been. Their only hope for their child was that he was not forced to be different than his peers. The Alliance they had fought to be created was still one with much prejudice, slavery, and hatred, and their greatest fear was that their matrimony would create a toxic environment for their child.
Aliana picked young Eli up out of his crib. As she did this Eli noticed something terribly and dreadfully wrong, he had pooped his pants.
'Never in the history of my life have I been so embarrassed!' He whined to himself. Growing up, he had never been the kid to pee his pants in class or lose control of his body, this was beyond shameful to him. As his mother took off the cloth that had been wrapped around him like a diaper, he allowed himself to better observe the surrounding nursery. It was immediately clear to him that they were somewhere strange, although the nursery was gender-neutral, it was covered in crystals that served as lights and a curtain which seemed to be seethrough but yet cast shadows on the floor as if it had let no light in whatsoever. The walls were built like that of a log cabin, large logs stacked against each other with some sort of black concrete filling in the gaps. It was a small cozy room. Barely enough space for 3 people to stand side by side in either direction, but despite this, it was elegant and well decorated.
All these observations served to better distract himself from the embarrassment he was currently facing. 'As soon as I notice that I am cleaned up I'm outta here!' He told himself, trying to focus on taking in his surroundings as much as he could.
True to his word, when his mom finished wrapping a clean cloth around him like a diaper he immediately tried to bolt.
"Thump" His failure was audible to the neighbors. A loud thump resulted as he did little more than flopping from a sitting position to flat on his back. His embarrassment grew but it did not distract him from the miracle that surprised him next.
His father, with little more than a flick of his fingers, made the cloth incinerate itself into nothingness, the flame a bright shade of yellow. Although it felt like millennia of observation the whole process lasted less than half a second. It seemed to disappear with a wink into oblivion.
Aziz face went stark white, {Ah yea I forgot to mention that..}
Eli's whole life had suddenly been turned upside down with this revelation. 'The world has magic!'
