Chapter 7 - It was all for nothing

"He's still breathing" Allen let out a sigh of relief and began dragging the unconscious body toward the exit.

The fire grew, and the monster at the center of the training room screamed like it was in great pain.

In a matter of seconds, the whole room was surrounded by fire

The exit has a hot wall put on making the other side blurry.

"Why are you so heavy!" Allen yelled, with only a single hand he began dragging Lee by holding the poor guy's leg,

He begins to enter the flame wall burning himself trying not to let go of the unconscious person's leg.

"Wha-

Just as he was about to pass through something blocked his way, he gritted his teeth and begin to smash his way out but it was no use.

Feeling an intolerable pain he retreated away from the flaming door and huffed for air, his body still covered by a small amount of flame.

He couldn't exit and worse Lee and he was now trapped in this burning building accompanied by a fire monster.

He began to look around with a restricted vision thanks to the raising fog coming from the fire.

The teacher was fighting with the monster and was far away from him so he doesn't need to get scared of being secretly attacked.

'I just need a way out' Allen pondered and saw a glass window all around them.

Some are already shattered so you just need to squeeze your body to exit the place.

Allen can't help but smile, he found a way out, unlike earlier he kneeled and placed Lee on his back.

With flames everywhere including the floor, it would be dangerous dragging him like before.

His breath was traced like in winter, white smoke exiting his mouth with every step he took towards the nearest window.

As he saw the trees that were shown behind the window approaching, he felt truly relieved, his smile grew large as he got close.

He just needs to drop lee-

His heart sank, and the large smile turned to disbelief.

A two hundred foot drop was what awaits them, yes it was a place safe from fire but with that height and a hard ground waiting for them.

Can they even survive?

Practicing to become a hunter doesn't make you invincible, your still gonna be human.

He shifted his gaze toward the monster and his eyes couldn't believe it, he refused to believe.

The fire body has grown larger it's lower was missing and its upper body had mixed with the surrounding.

Its large arm was too much of a trouble for the teacher as he was placed under one of the monster's large palms unable to fight back.

The monster's scream of pain was so loud that allen took a step back almost falling at the window.

He drop lee to the side and grabbed a blunt sword.

'You can do this'

Allen's legs tremble as he approaches the monster, the sword he grabbed was too hot seconds of contact with it made his hand faint red.

'I just need to distract it so it won't get to Lee' He pondered

"AAaaaaaahhhhh!"

It was a useless struggle

And he knows it.

He swing the sword toward its fire body, the blade just past through, and once it came out, the iron blade melted off.

The monster cried and a wave of heat send Allen flying away.

He hit the wall getting the teacher's attention.

"You can't beat it, just ran," He said under the monster's large hand.

Allen didn't seem to hear him as he slowly stood up and grabbed a spear the weapon nearest to him.

He looked at where he heard the voice and all he could see is fog getting thicker each minute.

"...target me"

He rushed toward the large monster but was intercepted by its fist.

He was sent toward the wall and the spear he had was embedded to the monster's fist slowly sinking inside its hand.

Seeing it the teacher lifted the giant hand that was burdening him.

Both his arm was turning charcoal but the giant's hand levitate he was about to escape its grasp when one of his hand turned to dust

Then his other After that he was buried with no hope of escape.

The teacher yelped for help as his whole body got burned by the monster, seconds later the voice vanished and only the sound of fire remain.

The monster lifted both his fist and one of them has someone's dry corpse, it cried as it slid toward Allen.

At that moment Allen was unable to dodge or even move, his whole body felt horrible, he shouldn't have stood up the first time he got hit by this monster.

As he saw its burning body approaching him with speed, he wished that this is just a test and that when he died Everything will turn back to normal.

He was hit by its fist and the impact created a wall leading them to the open hall where several people were waiting for them.

Those people are trying to enter but something was blocking them, that blockage disappeared the moment they saw Allen burst through the wall next to them.

They immediately reacted, the monster tried to hit Allen once more but a barrier was put on in front of Allen.

Drew who is one of the people trying to enter, shoved the monster inside with his large sword.

"Heal the kid, I got this!"

Eva approached Allen the man had his whole body shrouded with purple burn

His toasty underwear survived everything else didn't.

Eva touch Allen's chest and immediately pulled back her hand when she felt the man's burning body.

Seeing it the person next to him asked

"Is something wrong?"

Eva touch Allen's forehead and answered the guy next to him "Nothing's wrong"

"Heal" Green light enveloped her hands and it spread throughout Allen's body.

Allen(pov)

I opened my eyes and I saw Eva, I sat down wanting to ask.

'Was that a test?'

'Is that why I survive?, cause I think if the monster hit me that time I should have died.

I'm not that sturdy

I couldn't feel my body burning I was surrounded by fire at that time, so what happened earlier must be a test

My thought changed when I saw a huge burning hole on the wall behind Eva.

"Your lucky that-

I grabbed both her shoulder and shoved her to the side.

"You-

A man next to Eva said something but I was too focused on getting inside the hole to hear his words properly.

' that was just a test it's not real' I pondered running inside that hole.

When I entered it is like I arrived in a different world.

The temperature raised, and all I could see is fog and fire.

When the fog moved to the side I finally saw something else besides the two.

Drew was wielding a long sword fanning the fire coming for him, even the monster's body was getting swayed away.

He can beat it, I was sure of it.

I didn't hesitate to walk on fire and navigate the way where I put Lee's body.

Drew must have gotten him already but I need to be sure, i don't know why but seeing the future waiting for lee.

Made me feel sick and anxious

I crossed on fire my feet were burning, I feel like I was being cooked alive, and the sweat I was having doesn't help with the temperature.

I couldn't find lee yet when the monster roared. the fire that was already hot got larger and I was engulfed by it.

My skin made a popping sound and the pain was something that I can't resist.

"Aaaaaah, it hurts!"

My body moved on its own, I fan the fire away with my hand as I move closer to the hole I used to get here.

I was about to get out when I remembered lee.

'seriously, I'm killing myself for a friend'

I pondered as I turned around and begin to run toward the window where I was sure I put lee near.

As I got nearer to the window the fire subsided and I was left with burning timbers beneath me.

I saw Lee sleeping peacefully under the window, half of his face was already engulfed in fire and was deformed but it's better than dying.

"finally"

I approach him as fast as I can then I heard.

"Look out!"

I couldn't help but look to where the voice came from, it sounds extremely worrying.

What I saw is the monster, it shrunk down in size, it's coming toward me behind it is Drew who doesn't plan on attacking it, he got his sword down and was approaching me instead of killing the monster next to him.

I wanted to dodge my body is telling me to dodge, I won't be able to take a hit by this guy.

But behind is Lee,

'A hero protects everyone' I thought as I closed my eyes and move my arm up to defend my face.

I was scared.

'My future isn't that marvelous anyway-

I was ready to sacrifice my life at that time.

I opened my eyes I was at the side my whole body was hugged tightly by Drew he looked at me worried and asked

"Are you alright"

'no'

F*ck, this isn't what's supposed to happen.

"Let go of me!" I yelled to him and even if Drew was older and my word doesn't hold any respect, he obliged.

I was let down and my whole body collapsed.

I struggle my way towards the window while he watches silently from behind,

The fire grew larger and it was only a minute or so until this whole room was to be engulfed in flames.

My eyes almost watered when I saw the huge opening that the monster created, Lee's body was gone the place where I left him was gone.

Everything was gone even the window, there was smoke tracing down.

"Why?" I asked

"Don't worry, it wouldn't be able to climb-

"why" I repeated.

"You should calm down"

Hearing his words my emotions burst,

"If you just killed that monster this wouldn't have ha-!

My voice faded, eyes getting heavy I look at him and heard his voice as everything went black.

"Let's talk once you recover"

In my room the curtain was kept open, I lay on the bed scrolling the tablet that drew gave me.

"Its good that you recovered"

He said before sitting on the bed.

"Right, sorry.....i don't know someone was still inside, I didn't check for him"

He's apologizing?, he didn't need to, now that I think about it none of that is his fault...it's mine.

If only I didn't move his body there and left him near the door, maybe he had a chance to survive.

As I scroll the tablet I saw a picture that made me throw up.

The porridge I have eaten at the time I was unconscious was all released to the fluffy blanket on top of me.

Seeing it Drew's eye grew, he immediately stood up to not get hit by the vomit.

"You okay?" He asked.

"I saw Lee's corpse" I said to him trying to control myself from vomiting again.

"'Oh, I thought you might want to see his final moment" Drew explained.

"'Is that a final moment...nevermind, it said he died from overuse," I said to Drew I hesitated but let the word out

"But he died from falling"

On the tablet is a picture of a bleeding tree and Lee's body scattered near.

His upper body was hanging on the tree's branch, one of his legs was burrowed on the ground, while the other one was turned to crisp.

There's a text below that picture

Cause of death: overuse

"It's his bloodline, he exceeds the limit of its usage" Drew explained.

"If he hadn't fallen he'll live unable to use his bloodline, I think it's better to die at that point" Drew said he waited for allen to refute but the guy in question didn't say a word.

"Sorry for being rude to you at that time"

Allen said to him.

Drew was about to say a response but Allen continued.

"And can you teach me how to use a sword?"
