Chapter 27 - Chapter 24: Come Back... Be Here

Back to the current time

For a short while, Damian had thought the events from before were merely a dream. Unlucky as he may be, it was not. He struggled to get out of the bed where he was strapped in. On his right side, Maki was still unconscious but the rise and low of his chest indicated that he was still alive.

And that was one sign of relief for Damian. They were both inside a medical facility, that he was sure of. He could make out multiple medical tools on a small table on the far right side of the white-walled room.

A large glass window by the door was the only thing keeping them separated from the scientists outside.

And from Maia who was standing by Leticia's side.

"Maia… MAIA WAKE UP!! IT'S US"

Watching Damian scream frantically just to wake Maia up was an amazing feat of desperation and Leticia loved watching others suffer under her wing.

She moved her gaze towards Maia who was just standing still by Leticia's side, eyeing the two males inside the room.

There was no expression, not even one mere recollection on Maia's eyes. She just stood still, emotionless as she usually does.

For Leticia, Maia was and is still her greatest creation. She had thought that Maia would continue without breathing nor simply a pulse. However, after a day went by, Maia was simply breathing again, although her pulse had been weak, this proved to not be an obstacle for her.

As she displayed great strength, agility, and quick thinking on the battlefield. Within a month, she was hailed to be the strongest soldier in this fort.

Leticia took all the credit and made Maia a killing machine for the government. There were times when the soldiers needed help handling the cities, they would send only Maia and never a whole army.

Maia became Leticia's greatest creation. One that made her famous and gave her riches that were beyond what she had imagined.

On normal occasions, she would leave Maia on this fort, the front house, and will go to social events and gatherings hosted by the government for high-class people. But today, when it was only a day that she decided to visit the front house, did she get an amazing present.

From the looks of it, Damian and Maki were the perfect subjects to test on the memoria revocare. A machine they got a hold of half a month ago. Simply put, it allows someone else to see the memories of someone firsthand.

Though the machine had proven to have limits. Such as, it cannot show the memories that were buried deep in the unconscious and those that are kept hidden.

This is why it proved useless on Maia. Leticia would've loved it if she could get some intel on Maia too like the original plan.

However, Damian and Maki falling onto her lap would do. Since it seems that they could remember everything.

Damian shouted and screamed but Maia who was just staring at him remained emotionless. Maybe it was because of his screams that Maki woke up.

Damian watched the younger lad stir until he fully opened his eyes. Maki struggled to get out from the straps but when he saw Damian, he stilled.

He roamed his sight and finally settled on the white-haired teen on the other side of the door.

"Ate"

Maki softly murmured and as if by some miracle, Maia moved her gaze and stared at Maki. There was still no emotion but Maki knew.

Maki knew that her older sister was still in there, they just need the proper thing to say. Like a keyword.

"MAIA PLEASE!! WAKE UP!"

Damian shouted again but instead of joining him, Maki only pursed his lips.

He knew that they were being watched, heck they could probably even hear what they say. So, he couldn't just tell Damian about his plan. He needs to do this on his own.

"Now I think we wasted enough time, you're clearly awake so I think we can get started"

Leticia spoke through the intercom, instantly gaining the attention of the two trapped males. On cue, soldiers and scientists waltzed inside the room, dragging a machine that the two men easily recognized.

It was the machine that Damian's father, the scientist had used to lock their memories. Damian and Maki looked at each other.

They both had the same idea. The same thought that was running through their mind right now.

Why is this machine in here? The memoria revocare was a machine created by the scientist during the early stages of the mutiny. And even if Damian didn't want to acknowledge it, he knew that his father's brains rival none.

To have a replica of this machine would only mean that someone had sold them out.

"I dare say, this little baby right here is certainly a gem. Do you know what she can do?"

Damian and Maki didn't nod nor did they answer her. They knew firsthand what the machine does and can do, but answering that wouldn't change the fact that there was a snitch in the mutiny.

Leticia not even bothering on taking in the two males' expressions proceeded to babble on and on about how the machine was a gem and a treasure that she had found.

Damian wanted to snort, the way Leticia emphasized how she found it was a clear indication that the only thing she wants is the credit.

"Now, we're going to be testing this baby to you"

Damian and Maki's eyes widened. They instantly knew that they were both in trouble. Now that their memories had unlatched. Leticia and her cronies are now free to gather any intel they want from them.

And they would be endangering the entire mutiny. Even if there is a snitch inside the mutiny, the fact that the government hasn't attacked them all those months meant that they don't know the exact location.

But, if Leticia sees their memories, they would be able to pinpoint them in a second.

Damian struggled as the scientists attach the electrodes to their temples. Once settled, Leticia and the others started injecting some kind of liquid into Damian and Maki.

"What is that? What the hell is that?"

Maki roared.

Leticia answered him without even bothering to look up at him.

"This is only a high dose of choline, to increase you know, your cognitive abilities"

Maki could not believe what he was hearing. High doses of choline could fry their brains or could have no significant changes.

And yet here they were, being treated like Guinea pigs, used for various experiments. Maki took another look at Maia who was still standing outside the room.

He wanted her sister to help them. But whatever happened to her all these years. Whatever the hell they did to her, he needs to revert it.

They need her sister and he isn't going to leave her here again.

The question is, how could he save her when he couldn't even save himself. What could he do in his situation?

Breathe Maki.

Upon hearing the voice, Maki quickly scanned the room to see where the voice came from. His gaze landed on his sister.

You have a dormant ability, you just need to tap into that.

'I must be going crazy

Maki thought as the female voice continue to ring into his ear but then Maia stared directly at his eyes and somehow he knew. He knew that he wasn't going crazy.

Or maybe he was but, he could save the three of them. And right now that's what he needs.
