Maia screamed internally as she watched Damian and Maki being forced to submit.
She knew that their screams would forever haunt her and yet her body wouldn't move. The serum that Maki injected on her before they jumped from the collapsing front house, made the seal on her memories unlatch.
And yet, she still couldn't control her own body. Hell, she couldn't even talk properly. How long has it been since she forced her memories into her unconscious?
A year? Or it must be more than that. Maia pondered on the thought of whether she should feel relieved or scared now that Damian and Maki are in front of her.
She needs to become herself again. But how? Her own body won't follow her and neither can anyone hear her.
She also needs a solid plan. She can't just waltz right up in there and go against armed people.
She might have done so before and won, but that was the dormant power she had. And right now, that power and she couldn't necessarily exist together. Yet.
She vowed to learn how to control this power without losing or sealing her true self. But right now, she needs to get out there.
Maia inhaled deeply and tried it again. The telepathic connection that she had been hearing, if it can talk to her then she can too. After all, communication is a two-way process.
I know you're there. I need your help.
Maia gave it a few more minutes. When she was certain that she won't answer her, she tried again. This time, her request turned into a plea. Whoever, this person is, she's the only one who could save them right now.
Please help us. Tell me what to do to go back to normal.
"Aghhhhhhh"
A screech ripped through the air forcing Maia to drop what she was doing.
It was Damian. Aside from choline, different chemicals were carelessly injected into their bloodstreams.
Nothing good would come of it, she knows that first hand and just hearing Damian's tortured screams was enough for Maia to panic.
Please I can't lose both of them. Help me!! I need to save them.
It's not you who can save them.
Maia closed her eyes as she tried to answer the voice.
What do you mean?
It's not you who can save the three of you. Whether your true self could resurface or not depends on your brother.
Maki? I don't understand
In due time Maia, you would. For now, you need to put all your faith and trust in him. That's all you could do.
Deflated, Maia sighed, and once again, her attention diverted to Maki when his screams became cries of help.
"STOP IT!! ENOUGH!!"
Maia didn't know what to do, she couldn't take it anymore. She saw Maki staring at her, she didn't know what kind of expression she put up on her face but she could make out the pained expression on her brother's face.
She might have nothing to offer or help but she didn't want to hear any more screams from the two men that she cherishes the most.
No, she just wanted this nightmare to end.
Dig deeper Maki, you need to remember it.
Maki was just as annoyed as he was in pain. He wanted to smack the voice that was nagging in his head so much.
He chuckled faintly, a sudden action that did not go unnoticed by the soldier's eyes. Maki could see the pissed-off reaction of the soldier.
No matter how much they tune up the memoria revocare, they could not get a single memory from both of them.
The electricity stings him inside and Maki could very well say that his brain may have been fried. As a result, he can converse with this strange yet familiar voice inside his head.
At first, he thought the voice belonged to Maia because he could recognize it as a familiar voice.
But now, he was so sure that it was not.
Maia, as he remembers her was always loud with the people she care about. Outside that circle, she would always act cold and distant and her tone of voice was just alarmingly cold.
Alarmingly enough that it might destroy the whole world. Yep, that was Maia.
But this voice, this sultry soft-spoken tone, and way of conversing were not Maia. It's not her mother nor was it Iavan and Miisa.
It was familiar and yet he just can't put a name to whom it belonged.
"KEEP TRYING!!"
Leticia's screech almost made Maki's head explode and he swore to rip the woman's throat off when he gets the chance.
But what made Leticia furious was the fact that she doesn't know what was wrong with the revocare.
It worked on their soldiers, yes it didn't work with Maia but she thought it was only because her memories were gone. She doesn't know what's wrong and she certainly cannot comprehend the reason why it wouldn't work on these two.
"Maybe it work won't because it doesn't like you and youre as ugly as hell"
Maki blurted out while plastering what he thought was a sweet smile. But that smile looked so menacing given how tortured and bloody his face had become.
Leticia only gritted her teeth before screaming for Maia.
"616!!"
Upon the call, Maia walked inside and stopped beside Leticia. Her gaze landed on the one she calls her creator.
"EVERYBODY OUT!!"
Everyone else complied, Leticia was seething with anger and they do not want to be on the receiving end of it.
Now, all that was left inside the room were Maki, Damian, Maia, and Leticia.
Maia struggled so much to utter even just one single word but nothing seems to come out. She wanted to hug the two bloodied men laying in front of her. But her own body wouldn't allow her.
Leticia placed a victorious grin on her face as she watched how conflicted the two men's expressions were. 616 was someone special to them and she wouldn't waste this chance to torture the rebels more.
"Since it is clear that you wouldn't talk on your own accord and that the machine was a clear rip-off"
Leticia's tone and expression scared both Damian and Maki. They're both not dumb not to understand what it was precisely that Leticia wanted. And what she is capable of doing.
"616"
It was that damned number again, Maia thought. In an instant, her body moved on its own and as if it understood what it needed to do, it went in between Maki and Damian.
"Torture them until they speak, make them feel hell and do not stop until they could hear the lullabies of the demons"
Maia wanted to shout, it was like the whole universe was hell-bent on making her feel terrible. Not only did she need to watch the two of them shed blood but now once again, she needed to do it by herself.
I couldn't wait any longer. HELP ME! OR AT THE VERY LEAST HELP THEM. I COULDN'T BEAR THIS ANY LONGER!
Maia screamed as she attempted to communicate with the mysterious lady once again, but no one responded.
At least not to her.
Remember Maki.
And Maki did. The way to wake his sister up. It was buried so deep in his memory and if it weren't for Leticia, he wouldn't have remembered it.
That lullaby.
The lullaby that their mother used to sing to her sister.
