Chapter 5 - Chapter 4

"If it isn't our dear King Roan...your majesty"

Within a second, vines sprouted from every corner, and headed towards Y/N. Her eyes widened as she ducked.

The vines twisted down below and aimed for her leg, Y/N applied pressure to the floor, leaping up to evade the vines. When all of a sudden a vine wrapped itself around her ankle and her wrist, the vines held her upside down.

Y/N facepalmed

"Your majesty, you don't always have to be so violent"

The king gritted his teeth in anger, for a mere peasant to interrupt his sleeping hours was an abomination. He ran his fingers through his hair and looked at Y/N.

The young milkmaid was still hung upside down, her hair blocking her view as she blew on her hair trying to get it out of her view.

"What are you doing here?" The King questioned with a strong voice, his voice sent chills down her spine.

Y/N was just about to answer when the hotheaded king called on the guards.

"Guards!"

"N-no!! No! Don't call the guards"

King Roan spared her a glance.

"And why should i listen to a thief?"

"M-milk maid. I am a milkmaid, not a thief"

"You stole from me"

"Oh come on, i just needed some food i could spare for my cows and i, atleast for the week" Y/N puffed.

A voice called out to the King from the other side which interrupted their discussion.

"Your majesty you called"

"Please don't open the door" Y/N mouthed to the king who in return stared at her like she was some idiot.

"Its okay, i am fine. You can go now"

"Are you sure-"

"You may go now!"

"Forgive me my lord"

the guard apologised and departed, Roan turned his gaze back to Y/N who was still held captive by the vines. He walked over to her, and walked around her as her hanging form rotated slowly. He looked intensely at her and noticed a dirty pouch sticking out of her pocket. He reached out and pulled it out.

"No, don't open that"

The king inspected the metal box and attempted to open it but failed, he kept it on a table and sat on his bed and scowled at Y/N.

"You never answered my question, why are you here?"

Y/N sweatdropped.

"Your majesty, i am here to help you"

King Roan furrowed his brows and scoffed

"Do i look like i need help?"

Y/N sighed and spoke again

"I am here to help because I know things that you don't know"

The king released a low growl.

"You know nothing" he spat.

"i know everything that happens in this kingdom. Nothing ever escapes my eye" he rose to his feet and picked up his goblet filled with wine, he drank from it and stared straight ahead.

"The things you know are before thy eyes, but do you know what happens behind them?"

The king ignored her question, Y/N knew that he wasn't even bothered with her replies. She needed something to convince him into believing her. All of a sudden, a voice spoke into her mind, 'speak to him about how he sneaks out at night, and about the children he visits at the forest'

Y/N turned around wondering where she heard the voice, her E/C caught sight of a golden blur which dashed out of the kings curtain.

"I know that you sneak out at night..."

Roans eyes immediately widened. Y/N was shocked to see his reaction, the voice was right, this was something no one knew about Roan. Not even her, nor Flavius. She decided to complete her sentence. Enjoying his reaction.

"How about the children you visit at the forest?"

The kings grip on the goblet loosened as the it fell unto the floor, spilling wine on the floor. Out of shock, the kings magic stopped flowing through the vines as it released Y/N.

A loud thud filled the room, Y/N groaned in pain.

"Good heavens you could have warned me" she hissed in pain.

She rubbed her wrist without noticing the kings towering figure above her. He got a hold of her collar and pulled her dangerously to his face.

"How do you know? Are you spy? An enemy?"

"If i was the enemy then i would have been intimidated by your power and would have attempted to run. But as i said, i am here to help you... King Roan"

For once in his life, the king was left speechless. Y/N continued.

"Your majesty, do you even know who you are?"

Roan's eyes filled with rage, as his gripped tightened around her collar.

"I know myself more than anyone!"

"Then who are you?"

The king was lost for words, he really didn't know what to say. He never knew who he was, he just knew he had a mother who loved him, and everyone else was against him, that was what he believed.

"Who are you?"

The king couldn't reply, he tried his best to hide his tears as he remembered seeing a blurred painting of him with platinum hair in his mothers room, maybe it was just someone else. He couldn't be sure if that was him, but it looked so much like him. He hardly knew anything about himself. He only believed one thing....

"Who are you?"

The king cracked

"I am a monster!"

Y/N eyes widened at his outburst, tears seeped out of the Kings eyes trickling down his cheeks. It felt so good to cry, he always wanted to. But he was a king, he couldn't cry. But at this moment, he could care less that he was crying before a woman.

"I am a monster! You know i am a monster, everyone knows i am a monster and i know it! That's who i am!"

He snapped with tears trickling down his cheek. Y/N's heart felt a huge pang of pain for the King, was this how he lived? In darkness? In belief that people hated him?

She gulped heavily, the kings grip weakened as he stepped back and sat on the floor with his eyes fixed upon his hands, light showers began to fall outside.

"You're not who you think you are..." Y/N spoke sofly.

"You are not a monster, you are just.." she tried choosing her words carefully.

"Lost, trapped ... you need to be set free"

The King lifted his gaze back to Y/N

"And how do you know that i am trapped? You know nothing..." he snapped, his voice cracking a bit.

"Do you want to know why Ev- erm..oh god." She cleared her throat

"do you want to know why your mother goes to her secret chambers at night? Do you want to know why she never lets you go with her? Do you want to know why the people are scared? Why the prince's call you brother? Don't you want to know about your family?!"

Roan gasped "how do you kno-"

"If you want to know more about yourself and your life, then meet me at the great pavilion." Y/N picked up the metal box on the table walked onto the balcony, she stretched out and arm and held onto a tree branch.

"Wait! I still have a lot to ask you!" The king reached out for her.

"And i have a lot to tell you, if you are willing to get the answers to your questions, then we shall meet at the great pavilion. Goodnight My king" Y/N nodded

Roan blushed faintly when she called him her King. She was just paying her respects. Stop overthinking!

She then climbed down, landing on her legs. A large smile crept onto her lips. She had done it, she spoke to him. Now she hoped that he would meet her at the great pavilion. With that she went on her way back home.

She looked up and realized that she had already arrived home, she must've have been deep in thought.

Walking in, she saw her cows had already been fed, stricken with shock. She saw a golden blur standing next to steaming hot food on the table.

Y/N smiled and reached her finger towards it, it hugged her finger and flew out the window.

"Thank you" she sighed and dug into her food.

.....

Back at the castle, King Roan pulled out the blurry painting he had taken from Evana's room and looked at it his fingers grazing it. He looked outside, beholding the blue moon which shone down upon his kingdom.

"I need answers"
