Chapter 6 - Chapter 5

It was 6am in the morning and Roan was wide awake, he couldn't sleep well last night. His mind was bombarded with thoughts and eagerness to know the truth.

"At least i get to know more about myself..." he sighed, his crystal blue eyes still fixed upon the painting. He couldn't wait any longer, he needed to meet that milkmaid now, he also needed to sneak out without getting noticed.

The red haired king rose onto his feet, walking to his destination. He pulled out an old brown cloak and put on a white tunic and black pants with a pair of black boots. He took of his royal rings and placed it on a table.

Looking into the horizon, he took a deep breath and stretched forth is hands. A large strong vine sprouted out of the floor down below and creeped upwards to his balcony.

The young king looked back at his bedroom, then to the painting.

"Who am i?"

He sighed and shook his head, his fingers wrapped themselves around the vine, steadying himself. He slid downwards, His boots landing silently upon the vibrant soft grass, all of a sudden he heard loud snoring by his side. There inside the castle by the window was a guard sleeping, on a normal day Roan would have snapped at him which he almost did.

"Wake-" he quickly placed his hands on his mouth prevent himself from speaking no more, the guard stirred in his sleep and opened his eyes, his half lidded eyes scanned his surroundings. Roan immediately crouched down hiding himself.

"I'm awake!" The guard yelled

Roan, held his breath. If only he had shut his mouth up, the guard slowly drifted back to sleep. Rising up to his feet, the king quietly walked away and pulled on his hood which hid his face perfectly, to his advantage, he met no guards on his way. If anyone saw him, then his mother Evana would know too. Being so distracted, he bumped into Prince Derran at the North gates of the castle.

"Oh hello, my apologies. I should have been more careful" he bowed, his blonde locks cascading down as he did so.

"Yes you sh-" he immediately shut himself up.

"I-its okay, i am at fault too, i should be going your majesty" king Roan bowed, and swiftly walked past him, leaving Prince Derran confused as to who he was.

'Did i just apologise?

Did i just bow to him?

Did i just do all that?

What on earth is wrong with me?'

The King thought to himself, why he was being so nice to him when he was the one who bumped into Prince Derran. Approaching the side door leading outside the North gates. He snuck out the gates and ran straight towards the village ahead, without sparing the castle a glance.

There on a tree sat an evil malicious parrot which looked at the King, the parrot squawked and took to the sky, flying all the way to its mistresses evil chambers.

It perched upon her window and spoke to her.

"Strange things...arckk... strange things".

Evana's ears perked up, she craned her neck and looked at her evil bird.

"What strange things could be happening without my knowledge?" She seethed with her thick Irish accent, clearly having been angered by the bird interrupting her spells.

"Roan.. R-Roan"

"What happened to my son?"

"Roan.. North gates arckk North gates"

"The north gates?" Evana rubbed her chin, her scarlet eyes darting from the bird to her black magical orb, waving her hands above the orb, dark green streaks swirled within and revealed the King on a horse getting into the village.

"He has started sneaking around?" She murmured, her parrot nodded in response. Evana waved her fingers once more.

"Oh dark spirits of the forest, where is the king headed to?"

The magic within the orb swirled fiercely when all of a sudden, a blinding light shone, the force of the strange magic opposing the dark magic pushed Evana back so intense into some shelves, Evana's eyes widened, her eyes landed on the golden figure which stopped her orb from giving away the kings destination. Evana broke the silence with just two words.

"Aradian knights?"

......

The doors to Roan's room burst open, Evana rushed into his room and found his royal jewellery on his table.

"Is everything alright your majesty?" A voice startled Evana, she turned to face the voice but something caught her eye, the painting which the king had taken from her room.

"Wasn't that in my chambers?" She asked quietly

"Pardon you majesty?" The voice asked again in concern. Evana faked a smile.

"Of course Prince Derran, everything's alright. You may leave."

"If i may ask, where is the king... y-your son?"

Evana tensed up and replied

"He went out for some quiet hours" she secretly shook her fingers, specks of dark green magic dust left her fingertips and engulfed the painting. Teleporting the canvas back to her room.

"If you excuse me now, i would like to return back to my chambers"

With that, the queen walked out of the room, closing the door behind her. Prince Derran bowed and watched her depart.

"Indeed strange things have been happening"

He sighed and looked at the painting of a beautiful woman with pale blonde hair.

"If only you were here... Mother"
