Chapter 6 - 5 A myth

After one week in Oral City. They resupplied on provisions and with lots of gifts on clothes. They moved on, heading to Zoweike City West of the kingdom. As normal they passed about one or two cotton farms then they got to the cattle farms.

Luna, now glued to Cravter was confused by how there were so many cattle in the kingdom.

"Brother what are these animals used for. They don't look like sheep nor do they have wool. Are they still used for clothes?" She asked turning her head slightly to look up at Cravter.

"Well they are used for many things, they are eaten for meat, beef to be exact, they are used to work and till the earth for planting. That you will see when we get closer to Zoweike, and these here their skin is used to make leather.. for our boots, belts, and others".

"So they kill them?" Luna asked with shock in her eyes.

"Of course they kill them " this was Frank who had decided to ride at the front along with

Grant.

"How else do you think you get to wolf down that meat I always see you devour" teased Grant.

"But I didn't know it was from animals. I thought they were planted. " Replied Luna with her eyes already teary. She bit her lips for a moment then spoke up with a new resolve.

"I do like beef a lot though. But from now on. I won't eat beef, I will eat only pork and chicken, at least then nothing would be killed for my consumption".

This made Frank and Grant laugh so hard they almost tumbled from their horses. Luna was confused at this reaction and was close to tears.

"Why are you laughing?" she demanded

"Nothing... Nothing would be killed... where do you think pork and chicken come from?"

Exclaimed Frank through a fit of laughter.

"Stop laughing at me, and tell me," Luna said turning to Cravter.

Cravter all this while was quietly observing them. He wanted to see how this two who were legitimate with Grant being of the same mother as him would treat Luna.

"Pork is from pigs and chicken from poultry, birds... But how would you know when you are just a dumb black bastard" replied Grant and this brought another outbreak of laughter from the two but it was short-lived as Cravter finally intervened.

"Would you two shut up"? He ordered. They stopped and were shocked as Cravter was always soft-spoken.

"Why are you two being mean to her, she is your sister and not a bastard. You should never call her or anyone else that again. since you two are very smart how come there are always complaints from your tutors about you two not performing well. I want you to apologize to Luna right now".

" Sorry" they both murmured staring daggers at Luna.

"Good furthermore you are to ride behind the convoy with the last batch of soldiers and you are not going to ride in your carriage till we get to Zoweike, now go".

" But Brother..." They were cut short by Cravter.

" Now go... No excuses. Go".

Frank and Grant were modified and rode to the back of the convoy. But gave Luna who was quietly sobbing angry looks on the way.

Cravter looked at Luna who was still crying and patted her back.

"Don't cry my little bunny. They are just mean and jealous okay".

" But they are right, aren't they. I am dumb and don't know about anything" Luna said with tears rolling down her eyes.

" No, they are not.. you are very smart... Way smarter than both of them combined.

At least you are willing to learn, unlike those two who wouldn't understand anything even if it was knocked into their head with a hammer, just like this". Cravter made his one hand into a fist and slowly pounded his head making a silly face.

This made Luna laughed and he smiled.

"And don't you worry" he continued. "I will personally teach you what you need to know during and after this tour".

" You promise?" Asked Luna as she cleaned her eyes with the sleeve of her dress.

"Yes I promise" replied Cravter.

By this time Nick who was riding by the sides of the carriages talking to Olivia through her carriage window had heard the disturbance and had seen Frank and Grant angry had ridden upfront to know what happened.

"What happened here? And why are Frank and Grant going back? Aren't they riding here anymore?"

" Nothing happened, everything is fine. They would just be riding at the back of the convoy from now on" answered Cravter and they continued riding.

From then on there was little or no excitement on the journey, just that on the roads here were not as good as those heading to the capital city they were a lot of muddy puddles and patches and sometimes the wheels on the carriages or wagons might get stuck and they had to get it out this happened quite ae several times. Luckily there were always workers on the farms that stretch out for miles on both sides of the road. Each farm was based on a particular crop. From wheat, maize, carrots, cabbages, tomatoes, and what have you. As promised Luna saw castles with plow tilling the ground and she felt sorry for them but Cravter promised her it was okay. Orchards seemed to be scattered all around cause every day at the time for lunch they always seem to find and an orchard filled with different fruit trees, they spend lunch playing around the orchard, climbing trees, or just resting lazily under the shades. These were the best parts of the journey for by nightfall they get to camp outside on a farmers land or sleep in their carriages only to continue the next morning and so it was for days until finally, they got to Milli Town.

This was like the storage town again. They were barns, milo and silos and many other storage buildings for food, there were we're house again stocked with bags of beans and seeds there was a big plain where beans and other crops were spread out every day to dry before they are packaged and stored for the winter. They spent days there watching the town's people go about their day and even joining them. It wasn't as exciting as penschol but there was always a lot and a lot to eat. And when they finally left their provisions were twice as much as they had from the beginning of the journey even though they were certain they wouldn't need it the town's people insisted on heaping the high with food for free.
