"Can you not do that?" She growled in the end.
"This?" He asked as he dragged the pen across the table again, this time making sure that the creaking noise was multiplied by 10 folds.
"Oh my God! what's the deal with you, if you do not wish to study then just don't attend the classes why are you trying to disturb us all" she groaned.
"Well I don't really see anyone else complaining except for you!" He exclaimed narrowing his eyes at her.
"Because they are not sitting beside you! They can't hear that creaking voice of you applying you carpentry skills in the biology class" she spat.
"Ms. Smith and Mr. Garcia I will be really grateful if you apply your skills in focusing on what I am teaching rather than in your social interaction" It was the annoyed voice of the teacher which made Cassandra look at the woman apologetically but the expression on Xavier's face was unaffected.
"Since you both seem so busy in your interaction I am sure you are already expert at what ever I am teaching. so why don't you enlighten the classroom Mr. Garcia that which part of brain is activated when a person faces anxiety and what hormone is released?" She asked.
Cassandra was herself freaking out because even though she was trying her best to take notes the entire class and had managed to take a part of it except for the times when Xavier carving the wood made it impossible to focus. she did not knew the answer which meant that Xavier wouldn't know it either. so the question was now going to come to her anyway.
"When a person is facing anxiety, the amygdala stimulates the hypothalamus, it initiates the fight-or-flight response. The hypothalamus sends signals to the adrenal glands to produce hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol." Xavier stated like it was the most obvious answer on this earth.
Now Cassandra wasn't completely sure if the teacher did not scold him because he was rich or because he practically knew all the answers. She could see most of the students looking at him in awe and she was pretty sure if this question was asked to rest of the class mostly wouldn't be able to answer it the way Xavier did, even the teacher was herself in a little annoyed considering the fact that she could not say anything to him now.
"I see Mr. Garcia I am glad that you were not disturbed by the distractions thrown your way by Miss Smith" she spat at Cassandra.
"Now if you would be kind enough to tell it to the class Miss Smith What part of brain stipulated when a person is sad or angry?" She asked.
Cassandra tried to come up with an answer but she had none. She mentally laughed at the irony of situation where she was talking about brain and her brain was totally unsupportive to her. She looked for a minute towards Xavier in the hope that he might tell her considering the fact he could explain everything that the teacher had said in last 20 minutes in a few sentence so he was totally aware of that one line answer she was asking her but Xavier completely disregarded her putting his head towards the table and looking at it.
"You see Miss Smith this is a tough school and if you want to pass my class. I would really appreciate you paying more attention into the class and not distracting other students. As for your disobedience and unattentiveness in the class. you will have to write an extra assignment on the brain and its functioning and I expect it on my table in our next meeting." She ordered.
Cassandra wanted to rebel. She wanted to complain in an annoyance that xavier was the one who was distracting her and the whole class and she was the student was trying to pay attention so he was the one who deserved to do an extra assignment but the truth was he was able to answer the teachers question and she wasn't and it wasn't like there was any other proof that she wasn't the one distracting.
So Cassandra decided to suck it up and just get done with the extra assignment was given. If Cassandra hated the subject biology any less earlier then this was definitely the time where she learns to despise it more.
She spend the rest of her class not turning her head towards Xavier even for a second, who still did not seize his carpentry skills. She did not try to take any notes because by the annoying voice made by Xavier's carving she was barely able to make out the teachers voice. so she just looked into the teachers eyes and pretend it like she was listening to every single word the woman was a uttering even though she could hear nothing.
When the class was over Cassandra was the first want to storm out because she was afraid what she might do to her bench partner if she stayed there a moment longer.
The other two classes that is math and literature were a drag for Cassandra considering the ruining of her mood in the very first one. When the lunch break finally arrived she was more than glad as she walked towards the cafeteria finding Isabella sitting on a table dutifully assigned to them.
There was a thing where Isabella could sit with James but she preferred to avoid the jock group, she said it made her uncomfortable.
"Someone seems to be having a bad day" Isabella exclaimed with a little smile tugging on her lips as Cassandra aggressively dropped her bag on the table and settle down.
"The worst actually!" Cassandra exclaimed.
"What happened?" Isabella asked.
" no nothing more than my sheer bad luck because the only place left empty was beside me so an asshole occupied it, then started carving the bench like it was a carpentry class and not a biology one. it pissed the hell out of Mrs Frank and she scolded us before asking the guy some question about brain and its functioning. unfortunately enough for me the guy knew the complete explanation she was giving for last 20 minutes even though he did not look up more than a couple of minutes and then she asked me the question and I was unable to answer considering the fact I could barely hear her voice due to his carving skills. so she assigned me Another assignment on the brain and its functioning and whatever little affection I had for biology as a subject and it's teacher totally vanished" she concluded.
"That.....
*****
"That sounds like Xavier Garcia to me and he's probably the only guy in the school who could pull off that stunt" Isabella laughed.
"Damn well right! I freaking hate biology And now I have to drown myself into a boring lecture of brain and its functioning just so I can submit another assignment tomorrow in her class" Cassandra complained.
"Well sucks but that's Xavier Garcia for you. I mean it would be a hell lot easier to hate him if he was dumb and stupid But the guy is exceptionally smart. We shared a few classes together last year and I swear I never saw him paying attention to the teacher ever but whatever question she might ask he always had an answer. it was like he had a photographic memory and would capture everything she had written on the board in a single look, like he did not even need to scribble it down and revise it multiple times like we all did and boy that Made being jealous of him a lot easier to other guys" isabella laughed.
Just on the queue a couple of boys entered the cafeteria, one of them was James and his football team. James smiled at Isabella blowing her a kiss that turned her red. once they were done settling, entered the guy who is the topic of the discussion. he did not even spare anyone another look like every single person sitting in the cafeteria was completely insignificant and he was completely indifferent to all of them as he settled at bench in the far corner.
"Shouldn't he be sitting with some of his friends or his football team?" Cassandra asked.
"Friends" Isabella laughed before starting to explain.
"Xavier Garcia does not have any friend. Though I'd be lying if I say that nobody wants to be friends with him because then everybody wants just one single look from his side. The guy barely pays in attention to anyone and even though there will probably lines of people ready to be his friend he rarely pays any regard to anyone and prefers to live in his solitude" Isabella explained.
"Oh" Cassandra mumbled as she pulled out her Tiffin that consisted of cheese sandwich. she knew she could buy her lunch from the cafeteria but she was also well aware of how expensive that would be so she preferred her home-made food Isabella on the other hand had already ordered herself some burger and fries and was quietly munching on them.
Cassandra was too occupied by the stress of an extra biology homework, if her entire schedule of working right after her school till the evening and then completing her homework till the middle of the night wasn't enough. Like the cherry on the top she totally despised biology and that was obviously because she was terrible at it which means she might have to spend another few hours today in the library trying to come up with the assignment.
Involuntary Cassandra found herself looking at Xavier who was quietly sipping Some black liquid from his mug looking into his phone being completely indifferent to his surrounding when some girl walked behind him dragging her painted hands across his broad shoulders.
Xavier took his time before driving his attention of his phone and looking at the girl. She looked like one of the cheerleaders with her perfect make-up on even though her skirt barely contained her butt. She mumbled something into his year with a flirty smile but the expression on Xavier face remained the same as he said something in reply and the girl walked away from him happily.
"You said he hated company" Cassandra exclaimed.
"Oh he does you won't believe what he did to the last guy who tried to occupy a seat beside him" Isabella answered.
Cassandra looked at Isabella with a straight face which was a clear indication for her to continue her tale.
"He allowed the guy to sit before he aggressively kicked the chair the guy was sitting on, the result being the guy sprawled down on the floor with his strawberry milkshake covering him up. Xavier then quietly finished his signature mug of black coffee and walked out like he hadn't just made a complete scene in the cafeteria" Isabella answered.
"I just saw a girl walking beside him and he did not really kick her off" Cassandra asked.
"You are not really obsessing over him like the rest of the girls in the school right? Because if you are then let me tell you it's pointless." Isabella answered.
"WHAT? no! If anything I despise the guy more than anything I am just asking out of curiosity" Cassandra answered.
"Well then that is Charlotte Davis! I can't even call her Xavier friend with benefits because they are barely friends. Charlotte is not your usual school slut but she totally has almost slept with the entire football team only stopping on Xavier in process. She thinks that she is probably High above the ground considering the fact Xavier always calls her when has a hard on." Isabella laughed.
"So she's his fuck buddy" Cassandra asked.
"Yeah you can say that! You see with the sort of looks Xavier has he can get any single girl he want on her knees, which means that it's probably almost always Charlotte crawling her way towards him rather than him ever asking her to, tho he's always ready to comply to her services" isabella answered.
"Whatever" Cassandra replied annoyed even though she was anything but indifferent she wanted to madly charge on Charlotte and she did not understand this urge. When she looked up she saw Charlotte placing her completely manicured hands on Xavier shoulder, feeling maybe the tense muscles beneath his shirt. though she had not settled down beside him which meant that maybe Isabella's story wasn't exactly a story but a true incident. Xavier on the other side was completely uninterested in whatever Charlotte was mumbling as his eyes were currently trained at Cassandra.
Charlotte soon realised that she was not being the object of attention for Xavier and looked at Cassandra throwing daggers through her eyes. Cassandra quickly averted her gaze towards Isabella and starting munching on her sandwich nervously, she already had enough of enemies in this school and did not need the Queen bee cheerleader against herself.
