Chapter 18 - Even Death Can't Bare To See Her Cry

------1 hour later--------

Deacon's POV

I heard the door open to the room, I didn't even look to see who it was, I didn't care either. I wanted to be alone, the way I'd be for the rest of my life. Alone and broken. "Go away, I want to be alone."

"We'll be landing soon. I thought you'd want to know." Alex said calmly. "I figured you'd want to know how close you are to seeing her."

My eyes glazed over at the thought of the last image of Mia in my mind. The lifeless look creeping into her eyes, the blood coating her lips, turning them red. "The only thing I'll be seeing of Mia anymore are pictures."

"Brother?"

I looked down to my hand, staring at the wedding band on my left hand. My head fell forward into my hands. "Just let me be until we land. I have arrangements to start making before we start back home and I would rather make them in private."

"Is there something we all need to know about?"

I looked over to him, "She isn't coming back the way we all wanted her to Alex. I don't even expect us to recognize what we are getting back."

"Why not?"

"He met them on the plane. That call, you saw what Irena and Gregory did to her. They didn't stop, they just kept going until..." I broke, tears flowed freely as my body shook. "That's why I walked away. I didn't want anyone else to see what he did to her. Once he was done beating and cutting her body, he shot her. He pulled the trigger three times Alex. I heard her scream the first two times, the third she couldn't."

"Maybe it wasn't as bad as you think."

"There was no mistaking. One shot into her shoulder, one into her thigh, the last was straight to her stomach. I watched him pull the trigger all three times. I'm not getting her back to hold; I'm getting her back to bury her. She's gone, oh god, Alex, she's gone, Mia's gone. She's really not coming home."

"I'm going to let you take a minute before you come out again. You'll need to tell them yourself."

Dimitri's POV

I peeked out of the room and saw that both Irena and my father were asleep. We would be landing in the next half hour and Mia has been in and out of consciousness. I had managed to get the bleeding to stop, but I wasn't sure how much blood she had lost.

I sat on the edge of the bed next to her, she was breathing, but I couldn't tell you if she was in pain or not when she was out.

Grabbing her phone from the bed I hit Deacon's name and waited.

Deacon's POV

My phone ringing barely brought me back to reality. Without even looking I answered it. "Deacon speaking."

"Lombardi?"

"What do you want?"

"How long until you land?"

"We're getting ready to land shortly, not that it matters now."

"Then you'll be landing before us. That's good. Be ready to move when you see my father walk off this plane, and you're going to need medical assistance there too."

"Medical assistance." I scoffed "They can't bring her back. I watched the life draining out of her eyes. I don't need false hope, I need to prepare myself to say goodbye."

"Get emergency medical there now Deacon. I'm well aware of what you saw happen. I got the bleeding to stop."

"Mia...she's..."

"She's one hell of a fighter Lombardi."

I took in a deep breath as I slowly stood up. "Am I able to talk to her?"

"She's been in and out since it happened. I'll be bringing her out, she'll need help as soon as possible."

"You know if any of us get a clear shot..."

"Take it."

After hanging up the phone I walked out to the rest of the group who had come along. "Axel, I need you to get emergency medical services on their way to where we'll be landing. Eric, next to Mia you're our best sniper. I want you ready to take a shot on Gregory. We aren't going to have a lot of time between when we land and his plane lands. No one and I mean no one take a shot unless you have a perfect shot. You should all know what Dimitri looks like, if one bullet hits him or goes near him, I'll personally put one in you myself.

I'm not going to pull any punches here, Mia's hurt. Gregory shot her three times. Once in the shoulder, once to her leg and once in the stomach. He, they beat her pretty bad, and he has also cut her pretty bad. Dimitri stopped the bleeding, she's been in and out since so, we don't know what state she's in.

If at any point during this Irena gets involved in trying protect Gregory, as much as I hate to say this, put her down as well. As far as I am concerned, she is part of this problem as well."

------ ½ hour later --------

Everything and everyone were in place finally as I watched their plane land. I stepped forward with my brother and father flanking either side of me. As the door opened, I held my breath. The first person to emerge was Irena, followed by Gregory. Both of them stopped at the bottom of the stairs as they stared at us. "Surprised?"

Gregory looked between the three of us with apprehension.

"You didn't send men ahead, did you?" My father laughed loudly.

I saw movement coming from the door again. Dimitri emerged slowly from inside, his arm around Mia's shoulders as they exited the plane. "Mia..." I rushed around everyone. How is she even walking? Her hand pressed tightly against her stomach, but I'll be damned she was walking.

"She's a stubborn ass." Dimitri answered my silent question.

Mia looked horrible. Her skin was gray and her eyes were glazed over, but as soon as she looked at me a soft smile appeared.

I noticed her legs shake a little bit as she clenched them together. On uneasy legs she stepped towards me with her hand out. "If this is heaven don't wake me up." She laughed lightly wrapping her free arm around me.

I held her close to me as she buried herself into my chest. Her body started to tremble against me. "Mia?"

"I'm good." She said softly. "I just want to go home."

"The first thing you're doing is getting checked out by a doctor." I said firmly picking her up into my arms. "Then we'll see about going home." I looked at Dimitri.

"I know, I'll join my father and her." He said calmly looking past me. "I didn't hold up my end, I don't expect you to hold up yours."

"He's here if you want to hold him." I retorted. "All you have to do is walk with us to the plane. You went above and beyond what we agreed upon. Mia wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you."

Dimitri's POV

My heart stopped as I looked back at him. "He's really there?"

He just nodded. "I'm a man of my word. You just have to make a choice."

"My choice was made when he took him from me."

He looked down at Mia in his arms, sharing a conversation of unspoken words. "We have some empty rooms and a nursery already."

Sorry for the short chapter, but I think that it'll definitely flow better this way.
