Chapter 6 - Sick

Mia's POV

I still have to remind myself some mornings that I'm not dreaming when I roll over and find Deacon still sleeping next to me. It still seems surreal that of all the people in this world that it was him, that I found a home and family with and that he loves me the way that I love him.

Today we were planning on going out and celebrating our two month wedding anniversary, but as soon as I woke up this morning I found myself hugging the toilet instead. It's been this way for the last couple days, but since it's starting to get to be chillier outside lately and knowing how I am with the weather, I probably have already gotten the first of many colds or flus that are to come this year. I wasn't going to tell him that I was feeling under the weather because he was looking to this day out as much as I was and since he's normally up and in his office already by this time he hadn't known that I was feeling lousy the last several days. I had been hoping that I would be feeling better than this, this morning but it seems as though I feel worse than yesterday and of course since we had plans Deacon was still in bed.

"Mia, you okay?" He asked walking into the bathroom to see me kneeling in front of the toilet. "I'll get Dee to bring you up some toast and tea. Sound good?"

"Yeah." I said sadly as he walked out of the bathroom.

Reaching next to me to grab a hand towel I noticed a little pink box that should have been gone by now, but hadn't even been opened. "Deacon. I think that I may need more than toast and tea." I said pulling myself up to a standing position and turning on the faucet to run cold water, before splashing some over my face.

"Okay what else do you want me to have Dee bring up?"

"She doesn't need to bring anything else up with her. I was just making a statement." I laughed opening a blue box that I had bought about a month ago. Since we had been going at it like rabbits I figured that it might be a good investment. Quietly closing the door, I followed the directions to the test and waited as the most agonizing three minutes of my life ticked by.

It was almost as if it was on que as I heard Dee opening the door to bring me the toast and tea that Deacon had requested.

"Mia, your stuffs here." He called.

Looking down at the little stick I almost screamed. Now whether it was going to be a scream of joy or terror was still left up to the reaction that Deacon was going to have when he saw it as well. Quickly snapping the cap back over one end and walking out of the room towards where Dee had placed the tray of food. I stopped and looked at Deacon who was sitting on the bed looking through his emails. "Deacon, I have something that you may want to look at."

"If I look up and you're not naked I'm going to be very disappointed." He chuckled, feeling me climb onto the bed beside him.

"Well, sorry to disappoint but I'm definitely not naked, but I do have something that I want to show you." I said opening my hand to reveal the test. "I don't think that toast and tea are going to do the trick for this."

His phone dropped from his hands as soon as he realized what I was holding out for him to look at. "There's two lines, that means what?"

"Two lines means positive." I said lightly as he held onto it tightly, glancing up to me and then back down to his hand probably over a dozen times.

"You're pregnant?"

"Apparently. It's not like we've really been doing anything to prevent it."

"You're pregnant?"

"Yes."

Jumping up from the bed with the test still in his hand he bolted from the room like he was running for his life. Before I knew what was going on both Axel, Alex and his father were standing in our room looking at me like I had grown two more heads in the last five minutes.

"Where's Deacon?" I questioned.

"He's running around here someplace like a mad man, saying something about a nursery and where to put it." Declan laughed.

Laughing I picked up a piece of the dry toast and nibbled at it hoping that it would stay down long enough that Deacon would make it back to the room.

"What was he going on about exactly?" Axel laughed.

"Why don't you ask him." I giggled and pointed to Deacon who was standing behind him now.

"Would you all move out of my way, so that I can get to my wife." He said loudly. As he came into view I saw that he had a hand full of flowers that he must've picked out of the back garden. They were a mx of pink and blue. "I don't have anything to give you besides these, but I hope whatever it is that they are as beautiful as their mother."

"Mother?" Alex questioned with wide eyes. "Why the pink and blue flowers?"

I watched as the realization struck Axel first. "I knew it!" He shouted as he looked between Alex and Declan. "I knew it and you both thought that I was crazy!"

"Knew what?" Alex asked.

"You lost!" Axel shouted, while pointing at Alex.

Something about that statement most have made Alex realize what was going on, because he looked like her was going to fall over any second. "You're pregnant?"

"No, I'm just running around the house talking about a nursery and picking pink and blue flowers for the fun of it." Deacon half snapped, before looking back at me. "You can finish eating when we get home, we're going to the hospital right now and make sure that everything is okay."

"Hospital?" I laughed. "I'm not going to die Deacon. This isn't an emergency."

"We're still going."

"Deacon, I'm sure that Erin has the equipment to do whatever needs done here." Declan laughed. "How about you just go down there and have her check it out."

"Right." Deacon laughed, while bending down and picking me up. "We'll see you in a little bit."

Deacon's POV

"Erin!" I called as I walked through the door carrying Mia.

"Right here!" She chirped coming into view, stopping when she saw me with Mia in my arms. "What wrong?"

Smiling I looked down at Mia in my arms. "We need you to..."

"Put me down." Mia whispered lightly. "I took a test this morning and it came back positive. I'm pretty sure what Deacon would like is to double check the results."

"Sure. Lets do an ultrasound. That'll take all doubt out of the situation." She smiled.

After waiting for what seemed like forever Erin came out again and ushered us back to a little area that was more private than most of the other rooms. "Okay, I need you to hop up here on the table and pull your shirt up over your stomach."

Mia laid down, doing exactly what Erin had asked her to do.

"This is going to be a little cold." She said before squeezing some sort of gel onto Mia's stomach. "Okay and here we go. It shouldn't take long to find out."

We both watched the little screen waiting for Erin to say something about what she was seeing. Tapping a button a sound started to fill the room. Although it sounded muffled, I knew exactly what the sound was that was being played. "That's a heartbeat."

"Yes, yes it is." Erin laughed. "Actually if you listen closely you can hear both of their heartbeats."

"Both?" Mia questioned in shock.

"If you look right here, you can clearly see baby a and baby b." She pointed out as her finger touched the screen.

"Twins?" Mia asked again in shock.

"Fraternal, not identical, but twins none the less." Hitting a few more buttons, Erin printed out a few pictures, handing them to me. "You're going to need to take prenatal vitamins from now on. I have a bottle or two here that I can give you to start you off, but you can get them over the counter after that. You'll definitely need make sure that you're eating regularly as well."

"Will I need to take anything to supplement since I don't eat anything beside chicken and fish?"

"Probably an iron supplement and you'll have to make sure that you get protein somehow. Peanut butter anything high in protein."

"Peanut butter." Mia chirped happily.

"Yes. Peanut butter is high in protein."

"I love peanut butter."

"Is there anything else that we should know?" I asked.

You're roughly about six weeks along, so for right now just take it easy. You'll find that you get tired easier and some other small things."

"Okay." Mia smiled as she looked over at me.

"If you don't have any other questions, you can both head out. There's not really anything else that I can do at this moment. I would like to have you come back in in about three weeks so that I can do another ultrasound to make sure that everything is progressing properly." Erin laughed, while wiping the gel off Mia's stomach.

"Three weeks right." I said, looking at the pictures still in shock.

As we exited the medical area and headed out into the hallway we were met with Alex and my father waiting on us. "Well?" Alex asked.

I held out the photos to them to look out.

"Two?" My father asked in shock.

"Twins." I chuckled.

"Fraternal twins." Mia corrected.

"So have you decided where you're going to put the nursey yet?" Axel chided as he walked out of his room.

"Right beside our room. There's already a door connecting them so we won't have to disturb anyone going in and out in the middle of the night."

Laughing my father looked between us. "It's going to be wonderful to hear little footsteps around here again."

14 weeks later

Mia's POV

We were nervously waiting for Erin to start the ultrasound, so that we could see if we were able to tell what the gender of the babies were.

"Alessia." Mia said to me drawing my attention

"Huh?"

"Alessia is one of them is a girl. Teodoro if one's a boy."

"Okay." I laughed as Erin walked into the room. "So are we ready to find out what they are?"

"Yes." I sighed.

Erin looked at Mia laying on the bed. "You're weight looks amazing. Have you had any issues with eating or any of the supplements?"

"Not at all." Mia answered. "Actually I feel better than I have in a long time."

"That's great." She responded starting the ultrasound. "Babies look like they are both growing perfectly. So, baby a is about three pounds, heartbeat sounds good and she seems like she's developing right on schedule. Baby b is about three pounds as well, heart beat is string and he seems to developing right on schedule as well. All seems well, both are growing perfectly, if everything keeps on this path then both your little ones are going to be perfectly healthy."

"A girl and a boy?" Mia asked happily.

"Yup." Erin answered.

"We're having a girl and a boy Deacon." She grinned looking over at me.

After leaving the appointment, we were walking the kitchen when Axel stopped us. "So...what are we expecting?"

"Alessia and Teodoro." Mia chirped walking by him and into the kitchen, grabbing her jar of peanut butter and a spoon. "So does that mean we can finally go shopping and get things that we need?"

Axel looked over at me with a knowing smirk on his face. "Oh you're in trouble man, and I'm not going to stay and watch what she does to you."

"Deacon, what was he talking about?" Mia asked as Axel quickly left the room.

"I'll show you."

I walked with Mia up the stairs, opening to door to the room next to ours. Her eyes immediately lit up. Trying to come up with excuses to not take Mia out shopping for baby stuff had been becoming harder and harder, but I wanted to surprise her and have everything set up for her in the nursery so that there was nothing that she had to really worry about.

On one wall set two black cribs, both of them would be able to convert into ago appropriate beds as they grew bigger. I hadn't ever realized how much people paid for baby items before. The mattresses had been placed perfectly inside them and the bedding that I had decided on was neatly adorning that crib waiting to be put on the proper way since I figured that Mia would like to do that herself. "I thought that we cold get letters and hand them up on the wall above their cribs to spell out their names."

"You did all of this?"

"I had some help from Alex and Axel, especially since they were the ones that brought most of it back here. I can't say that you made it easy trying to get all of this here without getting caught." I laughed. Their changing tables and everything all match obviously, you can see that. All that we need to do now is get clothes, bottles, diapers all that kind of stuff."

"Can we go and get some of it now?" She asked excitedly.

"Do you feel up to it?"

"Yeah. I mean I'll need a long nap afterwards, but since the morning sickness has stopped I've felt really good."

"Okay, you go get ready and I'll see if maybe Alex or Axel would like to come with us."

"Deacon, invite Cassie to come as well."

"Really?" I asked kind of surprised that she would want to invite her.

"Yeah. I feel kind of bad that she gets left out of everything, and we did really take the spotlight off of her and Alex since we showed up married and all." She smiled. "Maybe she'd enjoy being involved with the babies."

"Good idea." I agreed, leaving the room to find out where everyone was. After finding them all together in the kitchen talking with each other, laughing at something that I had not been involved in since I was with Mia.

"So how'd she take seeing what you'd been hiding from her?" Axel asked with raised eyebrows.

"She wants to go shopping now and get clothes, bottles and diapers." I laughed answering him. I was going to see if either you or Alex wanted to go with us and Cassie, Mia wanted me to extend the invitation to you as well. She thought that maybe you'd like to go."

Alex and Axel both looked at Cassie who stood silently looking at me. "Um...sure...I'd actually really like that. When are you guys heading out?"

"As soon as Mia finished getting ready. Shouldn't be too long."

"So what were the results anyways?" Alex laughed.

"Alessia and Teodoro." I answered smiling at the thought of watching Mia hold the two little ones as she rocked them to sleep.

"A girl and a boy?" He questioned. "God, we're all screwed. I hope they're both more like their mother than you."

I heard Mia walking down the stairs and towards us. "You ready to go?"

"Yeah." I answered. "How about you Cassie?"

"Yeah." She answered smally. "Thank you for inviting me to go with you Mia."

"I thought that maybe you'd like to be involved. Plus, it would be nice to have another girl's opinion."

"Are either of you coming too?" I asked looking at Alex and Axel.

"Oh, yeah, I just have to see this." Axel laughed.
