Chapter 4 - 4

Even if I wander around the market for a few days, I do not dare to go inside. Actually, all I want is to go in and ask him how he is, how he has changed so much, when and how he came back, what he's been doing since we've seen each other, where he lives, his shoe size, his favorite color, every detail of his life. Whatever comes to your mind! I can't help it. His new look, looks even more remarkable to me. If his life was a feature film, I would have finished the film in one night at the expense of sleep deprivation. Such a curiosity!

In the end, I enter the market twice because of my mother's ridiculous message telling me not to come home if I don't do her requests today and because of my curiosity. This time, I don't linger, get my work done quickly and head for the cashier right away. Uğur Tarlan, one of the sweetest memories of my little world, is still at the cash register. Even though he's wearing a nasty blue T-shirt that's obviously from the grocery store, it looks so good to me that I sigh before getting close to him.

He lifts his head when I reach.

-Hi, Uğur.

-Hi…

Unlike me, he looks very calm. Although this is a bit depressing, I bury my pain inside because of the intensity of my feelings.

-How are you?

-I am fine, you?

-Good.

He puts what I bought on the other side of the safe.

-Is there anything else?

-Well… No.

He shakes his head and takes my card.

-Have you always lived here? I never saw you after elementary school.

-No, we came back to this neighborhood last month.

-I get it. I'm really glad to see you. Can we be friends again?

I finally manage to create a reaction on his face. He looks at me with a crooked smile.

-Is this important to you?

-Yes. I admired you when I was in elementary school.

While this is a softened version of my feelings, I'm not afraid to admit it. He has no interest to me at all. But I want to spend time with him, get to know him and be close. That's why I have to do my best.

He laughs lightly. My heart is pounding as his eyes squint and teeth appear. I know, I can't be in love with him or anything. After all, it's like meeting a celebrity you admire, but his smile literally melts my heart.

-If that's the case… Let me give you my number.

I immediately take out my phone and put it in his palm. His hands are beautiful… His fingers are long and thin… His nails are cut so neatly that I feel like holding his hand and examining it. I've never seen a man with beautiful hands before.

When he write down his number and call himself, I realize that he is not trying to throw me off and I feel happier. He looks different, but it's clear that my kind, good-hearted Uğur is still out there somewhere.

-Thank you.

-You're welcome. You're an interesting person, Rüya. How strange that I don't remember you...

I smirk and slip my phone into my pocket.

- Exactly. See you again.

-Okay, bye.

Even though I want to come out of the market chirping and leaping, I force myself to walk calmly. I can't believe I got Uğur's number! If we met my elementary school friends, they would think I was so cool.
